A message from Galansi[edit]

Hi, I've finished the page. Could you put it back where it was? Galansi (talk) 00:43, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Galansi It would appear that Liz has discovered you had copied most to all of the text of the article that you created. Because of that, it's been deleted and redirected. I'm not reverting that. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:11, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: FlightReacts[edit]

Hello I dream of horses. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of FlightReacts, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: not substantially identical to the deleted article. Thank you. Salvio giuliano 08:15, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Salvio giuliano That's fine. I just wanted someone to check. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 17:27, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Mrs maxengana (17:34, 3 February 2023)[edit]

Hii there can a person publish false information here --Mrs maxengana (talk) 17:34, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Mrs maxengana Yeah, but most of the time people revert false/unverified information. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 17:35, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello![edit]

Hi! I am relatively new to editing Wikipedia and would like your opinion on a problem I seem to be having. A page reviewer seems to be blanking/removing my contributions over a space of about a week or so without following what I feel from reading the various "pillar" articles the correct about of discussion about whether this is the right course, what improvements can be made, what information can be cited, what counts as a reliable source and so forth, while largely avoiding any sort of detailed discussion about the article's failings. As you have reviewed some of the articles I have started I was wondering if you could provide some guidance on why some seem to be making it through and others don't. I appreciate page reviewer is a voluntary role and that you have other things to do but I would appreciate any input you have as I would like to continue making my small contribution to Wikipedia but find getting bogged down in this sort of thing wasteful and even a little intimidating. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 15:37, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BoomboxTestarossa You can find some explaination at the deletion discussion for Tri-Man, at the official policy page for what constitutes a "reliable source", and possibly from a future reply from Onel5969, either here or on your talk page. One possible reason why Onel might avoiding you: you're assuming he is doing this because he has "a minor vendetta" against you, when I can look at your talk page and see that you've had issues with a couple of other editors (that is, you're the common denominator). This is actually a technical violation of our civility policy, because people are presumed innocent here. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 17:34, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I attempted to presume innocence and resolve the issues through discussion (as I did my previous disagreement with another editor - two is a bit of a small sample size, but I take your point). However I find it hard to assume good faith when I see someone making decisions while what appear to be bad principles are being followed. Onel has avoided any discussion beyond those 8 words in the AfD, including to acknowledge or refute whether or not the references cited are notable and if they're not what would be. Tri-Man was initially blanked and turned into a redirect with no discussion, and only became an AfD discussion after I restored it; Paul is Dead (comics) had a section blanked, again with no previous discussion, when all it needed was a clearer citation; Miracle Man has been moved to draft-space with no discussion, and only a template left as any sort of indication of what, if anything, would make it viable to what seem to be a shifting set of standards. It's hard to see what other explanations there could be, TBH.
I don't get it. I've done the reading. I'm not submitting anything remotely controversial, anything about living people or historical figures. I'm not making profiles for random TikTokers or whatever. I thought Wikipedia was a place of consensus and collaboration, and this does not seem to be happening and no-one seems to be able to tell me why. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 17:54, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, not sure what Boombox is talking about here, since they have never tried to engage in discussion with me. They created a non-notable article, I redirected, then they reverted the redirect without rationale or improvement (Tri-Man). I then sent it to AfD, where it looks like the policy-related !votes are leaning to delete. They did cast a !vote at the AfD, but that is not engaging in discussion. After receiving your ping, I dream of horses, I looked at their talk page and on the article's talk page, and see they have left comments there, but without pinging me, I have no way of knowing that. I checked and can't see where they have ever left me a message on my talk page. Regarding the article that is at AfD, there is currently zero in-depth coverage of the subject from independent, reliable secondary sources. I see that I've sent another article of this editor to draft, with the same concerns, which is a tendency with newer editors, that write fictional articles which do not survive WP:NOTPLOT. This editor's name sounded vaguely familiar, so I looked at their recent creations and see that just this morning I marked Chariot (comics) as reviewed. So their concept that I have some vendetta against them is utter rubbish. Anyway, sorry to take up so much space on your talkpage. Onel5969 TT me 18:22, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BoomboxTestarossa:
  1. Next time, when engaging an editor on your talk page (or any other discussion/talk page other than the editors own talk page), always, always "notify" them by linking to their username. You didn't presume innocence because you assumed Onel5969 had known of your attempts to engage with him even though that wasn't a reasonable assumption to make.
  2. Non-notable articles, along with articles of borderline notability, are always controversial.
I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 18:43, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely sure what "pinging" is or why you choose to overstretch yourself by not being able to keep track of these things. But shouldn't you check talk pages of articles to discuss things before blank-deleting them? That seems a bit remiss. We had conversations about Paul is Dead (User_talk:Onel5969/Archive_110#Paul_is_Dead) and Terror Assaulter. In the former I asked you for clarification on why, contrary to WP:DR, you did not follow "When you find a passage in an article that is biased, inaccurate, or unsourced the best practice is to improve it if you can rather than deleting salvageable text." You didn't respond, nor did you contribute to Talk:Tri-Man when I was trying to find out more about bringing it up to standard, instead simply blanking the article. (this is why, I'm afraid I dream of horses, I am replying here rather than on Onel5969's own talk page, sorry)
I do like the way some votes count for more than others, though, very democratic, and very in-line with your own definition of "independent, reliable secondary sources", which seems to be "what you say it is". Of course you passed Chariot, it's got sources that pass your criteria - but strangely not the ones insisted upon by some at the AfD discussion, such as any academic studies. If anything why a random limited series that probably sold 4 figures but came out when creators do the internet promo thing is fine and a comic that probably sold 10 times that much and is mentioned in books by several respectable comic historians isn't is even more perplexing. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 18:44, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BoomboxTestarossa I suspect an edit conflict might've happened, but I've linked to a page which explains what "pinging" (or "notifying") means in my previous message. We literally have the technology to make sure people don't "overstretch" themselves, and you aren't using it. You are assuming Onel5969 is intentionally ignoring you, and that's not what's happening here. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 18:49, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, was in the middle of crafting a message about the mechanics of pinging, when Fedex arrived at my door. Thanks for explaining that. Onel5969 TT me 18:52, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses (is that right? Good tip, handy how it only pulls up people involved!)
1. sorry, I seem to have been typing at the same time as you. I did try to discuss the matter on @Onel5969's talk page and at the AfD as I have outlined below. Onel5969 is a busy fellow, no doubt, but either pretending that attempts at discussion haven't been made or not being able to simply check their own talk page archive and/or notification history is a bit much, and TBH doesn't fill me with a lot of faith that it's not personally motivated.
2. why are new articles subject to a different standard to extant ones, though? I mean I have a lot to learn with Wikipedia, I've been here about 8 minutes or whatever. But I am generally following the level of notability and detail present in many other Wikipedia articles, and I'm citing what are reliable secondary sources by any reasonable definition. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 18:52, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BoomboxTestarossa It would appear that @Onel5969 was entirely unaware of your attempts to contact them, hence the lack of communication. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 02:30, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(apologies by the way, I am suggesting that if @Onel5969 cannot engage in any sort of detailed discussion or keep track of talk page messages they are overstretching themselves, not that @I dream of horses is overstretching themselves, the replies appear to have got jumbled) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 19:02, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US government and copyright[edit]

At Draft:Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan (CHMR-AP), you flagged the draft for deletion as promotion and a copyright violation of [1]. While the promotional tagging was correct (and so the draft was going to get deleted anyway), do bear in mind that generally speaking, material prepared by a US government agency is uncopyrightable and so is automatically in the public domain. Not a major thing, just something it's sometimes easy to forget when a copyvio tool shows up red. Seraphimblade Talk to me 04:01, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Seraphimblade I was wondering about that, but wasn't sure if it was true all the time, if that makes sense. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 04:02, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Commons has a pretty good overview of it if you ever need to look up specifics or edge cases. In this particular case, though, when it's a press release issued directly by DoD, that would be something prepared by a federal government employee as part of their duties and so would be PD. A message from 1cbothuman![edit]

My name is 1cbothuman! and I submitted an entry on Alexander Schnell, well known German philosopher (with 23 monographs). Wy don't you accept this entry? What do I have to modify? February 5, 2023 1cbothuman! (talk) 20:43, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @1cbothuman! - Just jumping in - I'm not a reviewer, but I am a fellow rookie page-creator (so I have had some personal experience with rejected entries!):
References:
Looking at the page for Alexander Schnell, @I dream of horses has flagged that the article has almost no references. There's a lot of biographical information included in the draft, but nothing linking to reliable sources of information elsewhere that show that this is accurate. You can use the 'Cite' tool in edit mode to add these to your article.
Notability:
The knock-on effect of this lack of references is that it is then impossible for a reviewer to determine if Alexander Schnell meets the criteria for 'notability' - that is, whether his significance/impact warrants him having a full Wikipedia article. I would suggest you have a look at Wikipedia:Notability (academics) to determine whether he meets one or more of the criteria listed. Once you have identified which of these apply in this case, I would suggest you redraft your article to make these clearer and add relevant, reliable sources to demonstrate that this is the case, and remove information which is irrelevant to his notability or for which you cannot provide reliable sources.
There may be more that needs doing (and I'm sure @I dream of horses will respond when they are able) but the above would be good first steps towards improving the liklihood of your article being accepted. OtisSpanner (talk) 10:18, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Raymond Marcel Andrews (22:16, 7 February 2023)[edit]

I believe its important to donate finance and become editors on the WIKI platform because its opensource and its made for the people. I want to learn all the elements to support and upgrade articles and important people and things online. I would like to know where to start. Maybe some examples of task to be done? --Raymond Marcel Andrews (talk) 22:16, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JoshuaZQs& (02:54, 8 February 2023)[edit]

Hi --JoshuaZQs& (talk) 02:54, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I dream of horses,

You are a very experienced editor so I was surprised that you filed this AFD nomination and didn't provide a reason why you believed this article warranted deletion. Please do not omit this element in future nominations. The editors who participated in the discussion didn't seem to mind but closers are advised to do a procedural close on AFD nominations without deletion rationales. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:44, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz I'm honestly not sure how I didn't do this. Was this a brain fart, or a technical glitch? I honestly don't remember. Anyways, either way, it's not likely to happen again...unless it's a technical glitch, in that case I'll let you know. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 05:28, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wikiscenery (09:05, 10 February 2023)[edit]

how to add links between articles ? --Wikiscenery (talk) 09:05, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikiscenery By putting words between plain brackets. So, for example, [[Kimberly Kane]] turns into Kimberly Kane. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 09:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SofaKngJEDI (21:52, 10 February 2023)[edit]

Hello, I have a draft submitted and could use your input if you have time.

Thanks. Draft:Shear'Ree --SofaKngJEDI (talk) 21:52, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SofaKngJEDI I fixed a minor formatting issue. To create paragraphs on Wikipedia, you enter twice at the end of the paragraph instead of hitting tab at the start.
A more important critique: You're going to need add page numbers, issue numbers, etc. in your citations. You can use {{Cite news}}, {{Cite web}}, or similar template to do so. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:32, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SofaKngJEDI Sorry for the duplicate ping, but one more thing: If someone requests you change your name or if you decide to do it yourself, here's where to do it: WP:CHU/S. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:44, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from FLOlmsted (21:27, 19 February 2023)[edit]

Are there specific rules to how and when to create a disambiguation page in Wikipedia? Can anyone create one? Are two completely different definitions for the same term enough to warrant a disambiguation page? Thank you advance for your reply. --FLOlmsted (talk) 21:27, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@FLOlmsted In order of questions asked:
  1. Yes, there are rules on how and when to create a disambiguation page. The "deciding to disambiguate" section on WP:DISAMBIG states that Disambiguation is required whenever, for a given word or phrase on which a reader might search, there is more than one existing Wikipedia article to which that word or phrase might be expected to lead. In this situation there must be a way for the reader to navigate quickly from the page that first appears to any of the other possible desired articles. and then gives three scenarios, of which two results in a disambiguation page being made (the last one simply uses a hatnote instead.
  2. Anyone can create a disambiguation page, but if you're not autoconfirmed, you'll have to create one through articles for creation.
  3. [T]wo completely different definitions for the same term is, in fact, why disambiguation pages exist. However, sometimes hatnotes are used instead, particularly if there's only going to be two links in a hypothetical disambiguation page.
Also, disambiguation pages are designed for articles that already exist. Also also, the task center has some easier things for you to do if you want to start out not creating pages (understandable!). I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 05:15, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 19:30:51, 23 February 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Mikepickston[edit]

thanks for your feedback. I was just slowly going to build out the first page I've spotted that doesn't exist on Wiki. I will week building it out and re-submit.

What is the best way I can add a logo to that page?

Is there a way I can use the visual editor on this? finding it hard to use the basic editor Mikepickston (talk) 19:50, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mikepickston Use the visual editor for what, exactly? Are you still trying to insert a logo? I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 19:50, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to try and make it look like this page? another podcast The Adam Buxton Podcast Mikepickston (talk) 19:53, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mikepickston If you're trying to build out an infobox, that's something else that should wait until the draft is moved into mainspace. If you're adding, don't use the Adam Buxton Podcast as an example of which sources to use (it appears to be a work in progress), but visual editor is good at that. If you're trying to write paragraphs and add section titles, then yeah, visual editor would be best for that as well.
I'll copy and paste the instructions from Wikipedia:VisualEditor: Log in, go to preferences (top right) -> editing tab, uncheck Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta, optionally change Editing mode to Show me both editor tabs, and save your preferences. Here is also a brief summary of which sources to use. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 20:01, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
