Promotion of Tiberius III
martinus
Martinus (died c. 641) was caesar of the Byzantine Empire from some point between 638 and 640, to 641. He was the fifth son of Emperor Heraclius and his second wife (and niece) Empress Martina. Heraclius elevated Martinus to caesar, a junior imperial title that placed Martinus on the line of succession. Heraclius died on 11 February 641, leaving the throne jointly to Martinus's half-brother Constantine III and his elder full brother Heraclonas. Constantine III soon died of tuberculosis, though some of his partisans alleged that Martina poisoned him. One such partisan, Valentinus, led troops to Chalcedon, across the Bosporus Strait from the capital, Constantinople, to force Martina to install Constans, Constantine III's son, as co-emperor. Valentinus seized Constantinople, forced Constans II's enthronement in September or October 641, and deposed Martina, Heraclonas, and Martinus. Mutilated and exiled to Rhodes, Martinus died soon after, possibly during or immediately after the surgery. (Full article...)
hello, Iazyges! i had a question regarding this blurb for this article. i believe the tfa coordinators generally prefer to run blurbs with a relevant image if possible, and am assuming that no image has currently been selected for this blurb because the only one that was used in the article when it was promoted to featured status was a map that may not show up well as a thumbnail on the main page. what are your thoughts about using in the blurb the photo of the coin currently included in the article?
unfortunately, the coin does not actually depict martinus, but tfa has previously featured an image of something closely related to the subject of an article, even if the blurb would normally call for an image of the subject itself, as seen in this blurb. also, please note that the upper limit for the length of a tfa blurb drops from 1100 characters to 1025 when an image is included. at right is one proposal of how the blurb could be shortened to accomodate the image. dying (talk) 08:29, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

- done. thanks, Iazyges.on a completely different note, i recently realized that there are two articles for people referred to as "Constans II": one at "Constans II" and one at "Constans II (son of Constantine III)". this confused me, as both are sons of people that have been referred to as "Constantine III" (though one constantine iii reigned for only a few months, and the article on him uses the title "Heraclius Constantine"). would it be less confusing to use a different parenthetical disambiguator? for example, i think "Constans II (died 411)" could work, and is neutral regarding his legitimacy, although i am admittedly unsure if there is a standard disambiguation method used for articles on roman emperors. dying (talk) 20:42, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Dying: The disambiguation method for Roman emperors is, generally, ad hoc and ephemeral. Currently, the article names seem to display the Eastern Constans II as simply Constans II, per COMMONNAME, with the far less notable Western Constans II disambiguated. IMO this works well with Wikipedia policy, and is slightly better than using death dates, but I am not opposed to discussing alternatives. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 22:06, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- oh, i agree that the article of the less notable constans ii should be the one titled with a disambiguator, and apologize if my comment had suggested otherwise. i had raised the issue largely because i had figured that many main page readers may, like me, click on the link to "Constans" in the blurb and be confused when the hatnote tells them that a constans ii that is the son of constantine iii is discussed in another article, as the blurb had suggested that the constans covered in the linked article is the son of constantine iii.however, i personally have very little experience editing in the topic area, and have no business moving the articles of roman emperors by myself, so will defer to your judgement if you think the current disambiguator is more appropriate. i am obviously also open to other suggestions, as i have very little experience with choosing what disambiguators to use in article titles; i had suggested using a death date simply because i had thought it was sufficiently neutral. i actually also believe that using a familial relationship with a ruling emperor for a parenthetical disambiguator is generally more effective than using a death date; i had only suggested using a different disambiguator in this specific case because the disambiguator currently being used is arguably not actually disambiguating. dying (talk) 06:27, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news
- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
Technical news
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
Arbitration
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
Miscellaneous
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).
