Warning about outing[edit]

I noticed that in several places you have posted that results of research you did to try to learn the real life identity of certain accounts here. Please read WP:OUTING. If you suspect that someone is a sock puppet, you should follow the procedure described in WP:SOCK. You should not try to do the research yourself - let the bureaucrats do that. @Jytdog: I looked more at the outing link you showed me when I had time. I would like to defend myself. First of all, I am new to Wikipedia and it is hard to find all of the rules in one place. Second, I don't believe that I outed anyone accourding to the link you showed me,WP:OUTING. I didn't include names or any other information that is personal. Finally, I learned alot of what I know about Wikipedia from copying other users. By searching UserNameUnderConstruction posts that editor seems to have gotten others banned for sockpuppeting by by posting about it on other users' talk pages. I'm not saying that because another user gets away with something it means that it confirms with the rules, I just find this to be hypocritical situation that the new user is the one being reprimanded. How can you make a Conflict of interest complaint without suggesting that someone at the company of the Wikipedia page was the editor? I understand that you shouldn't use names (and I did not) but how can you identify a COI by not providing any information about who you think has the conflict of interst? you are free to do whatever you like outside of wikipedia, but tracking down IP addresses and trying to figure out who is who, is not something that editors should do. The article Wikipedia:Signs_of_sock_puppetry provides the kinds of things are acceptable to present at SPI. Hunting down IP addresses is not listed there. Sock is about behavior within Wikipedia; the point of WP:OUTING is that you write NOTHING about any editor's real life identity. Jytdog (talk) 19:48, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jytdog: That sounds fair. Thank you. I understand now after you explained it to me. I actually didn't go tracking down the ip addresses, I just copied another user's evidence.
