{{helpme}}http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Ideoplex&action=edit Electronic Data Interchange is in the midst of a revert controversy over an external link. We've tried to direct the user adding the link to WP:EL. I've tried including a couple of reasons why it is a link that should be avoided. Now it is time to ask for some help.

I've left messages for User:Michaeko. But I'm leaving your {helpme} in place in case someone else wants to reinforce the message.
If you continue to have trouble with this user, I suggest mentioning the dispute on the appropriate subpage of the Administrator's Noticeboard, so that an administrator can take action. —Steve Summit (talk) 01:59, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're doing the right thing by reverting him. After each reversion, warn him with the spam warning templates, found at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace; follow the directions if you've never used them. I've given him the level 2 warning, so the next one should be level 3. If he persists after a final warning, report him to WP:AIV, or you can let me know. If you need anything else, just leave a message on my talk page or replace the {helpme} tag. Thanks - KrakatoaKatie 03:23, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EDI Basics[edit]

You removed a link from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Data_Interchange for "A Step-by-Step Guide to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)" which I added the day before but you gave no explanation as to why. I don't understand why you have the right to remove a resource which is clearly of relevance and adds value to the content on this page?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.43.47.130 (talkcontribs) 17:53, 9 August 2007.

I checked the edit history. It's not clear to me whether the link is consistent with our external link guidelines, but I don't think it should have been removed. As a compromise, I moved it to the bottom, so that links to educational websites (instead of commercial websites) will be first on the list. Shalom Hello 20:07, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks Shalom, I thought it was a relevant link and appologies for not putting it at the bottom of the list, I hadn't realised there was an order. (204.90.232.132 11:06, 10 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]
The link clearly violates external link guidelines - links to be avoided. 1) It does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article. 4) It is a site that primarily exist to sell products or services. For example, instead of linking to a commercial bookstore site, use the "ISBN" linking format, giving readers an opportunity to search a wide variety of free and non-free book sources. I do not understand how "Idoplex" can over rule the decisions of other users? "Shalom" suggested it should be moved to the bottom and everyone was happy other than this one user! It does provide additional information to that already on the page and does not exist to sell products - in fact no products names are even mentioned. It is 'sponsored' by a provider of EDI services and if it were these services that were to be promoted then the link would be to that site and not this educational based one. Surely there must be a process in place to stop one individual dictating what should and shouldn't be included, guidelines exist and this site is inside those as I have already demonstrated? I do not want to start getting into a war of link adding and removing but at the same time will not give into an individual who seems determined to hide a source of information that is of use. I will add the link back again but if "Idoplex" wants to continue this I suggest he/she either adds the content of the EDI Basics site to the Wikki page that is not already present or escalate this to an administrator or mediator (not sure how it works on here) who can make an independent decision which we both agree to adhere to.
