List of Seattle musicians

Hello, IdiotSavantii. Firstly, welcome again to Wikipedia! Regarding this article, I've been generally leaving in musicians that are not strictly speaking from Seattle but get referred to in association with Seattle in the music press or popular understanding. In the case of the Melvins, while they clearly had ties to the Seattle music scene and influenced Seattle bands, it doesn't appear that the music press ever really considered them a Seattle band. In general, I would not include bands simply because they are from Washington. I've lived most of my life in Seattle but spent a few years living in Olympia, and I don't think many Olympia-based (for example) musicians would consider themselves "Seattle musicians" or want to be described that way. Thanks for the welcome and the quick response. I too am a life long Washingtonian having lived most of my days in rural Lewis County. I did live in Bellevue and Renton 1986-1993 and my daughter has lived in the city since 2003.

As you have been working the list for quite some time I will defer to your protocols. I will only add artists with a supporting Wikipedia article and who were born and/or raised in Seattle or made a notable contribution to the scene. For example, I intend to add Ernestine Anderson,who was raised in Seattle. I believe you removed her for not making a notable contribution. By this criteria both Quincy Jones and Jimi Hendrix should be removed as they left Seattle as soon as they got out of high school never to return, having had very little impact on the Seattle scene.

Ha, I guess we can leave in Ernestine Anderson and see if anyone else has an opinion. I was actually impressed with some of the names you added today. I don't know them all, but there are some that I consider both important to Seattle's music history yet obscure enough that I'm pleasantly surprised that they even have articles, e.g. Solger and the Blackouts. You raise an interesting point about the article being mainly for those not familiar with Seattle music. As a local of a certain age (50-something), my perspective on what merits inclusion isn't going to be everyone else's. No worries if you disagree on some of my edits/removals. An aside on the Melvins. When their original drummer Mike Dillard was playing in a band called Hot Carl with a couple of local kids I knew he played a gig in my backyard at a pig roast for my ex-wife's 40th birthday. Can't believe that was 20 years ago.

So sorry I made you afraid. Allow me to clarify what I meant by saying that my sources are the articles of the mentioned artists. I did not mean the articles themselves but the source references cited by those articles. In some cases I may have failed. Music of Washington state us an overview article, not a biography and so it seems to me redundant to painstakingly repeat sources that can easily be found elsewhere. Maybe I'm wrong. In closing, thank you for the links to the policy/protocols/disclaimer pages. I have reviewed them and will endeavor to comply to the best of my ability.
