IDAAD, rather than giving up, be open to learning.

You're very new here, and WP has a very steep learning curve, and you're editing at a fast-moving article where there are multiple especially tricky bits of policy to understand.

Generally it's best for new editors to edit somewhere that isn't a developing story with BLP or other tricky policy. But it's fine if you want to continue to edit there, you just will have to be open to people pointing out fairly often where you're going wrong, because in such a case a new editor usually will go wrong in several ways. Because the article is a developing story, there are a lot of other editors there, and they're busy doing things like preventing vandalism and BLP violations, which means they may not have time to be as patient with a newer editor who is learning (as they would if you were editing at, say, Double Dragon II (Game Boy)).

When someone corrects you or asks you to stop doing something, don't be discouraged. Just go learn why. In the case of trying to track down family members, the policy at WP:BLP and pages linked from there. Valereee (talk) 15:24, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

Just look, I found Kohberger's date of birth of November 21, 1994, in a CBS News article involving Kohberger. Fox News reported on where he went to High School in Brodheadsville (yes, Kohberger lived in the Lehigh Valley for the longest time) and even talked about Kohberger on how shy he was which was said by a student at the school. His mother, Maryann, also made national headlines involving her poem she made about Uvalde to one of her two sisters Melissa who was a mental health therapist in Jersey City, New Jersey. I saw it from various pages, not just the New York Post. ImDeadAsADoornail (talk) 15:28, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

That's trivia. We aren't writing a bio of the guy. The article is not about him, it's about the incident. If you've read the posts at the talk page you've seen us discussing whether even including his name is necessary at this point. And we'd certainly never dream of including the name of his mother unless it turned out she was an accomplice. Never, not in a million years do we include that. That's one of the tricky bits of policy I was talking about above. You are welcome to stay here and keep working, and I'm not going to "terminate you from Wikipedia", but you are going to have to learn our policy.

For now, unless you find it in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, or the Idaho Statesman, you shouldn't be adding it to that article. WP:BLOATED

Please stop trying to add these minor excess details about neighboring towns (e.g. "in the neighboring town of Brodheadsville", " in Center Valley outside Allentown"). Most readers don't know or care about these small neighboring towns and the details hold no significance to the case nor suspect themselves. It's bloating up the section with trivial, minor details. User:Valereee, it seems like the user is ignoring their talk page messages after you had notified them that they had talk page messages [1]. The user is adding back all of the reverted content [2][3] (and is even naming the suspect's mother using unreliable sources). It seems like a WP:IDHT issue; could something be done about this? Any time you see an article entitled something like "What do we know about (Suspect Y)", you should remind yourself what the article we're writing is about. This article is about the incident. It is not a biography of the suspect.

News media try to track down every detail they can find about a suspect because they know the public will give them clicks for it. Wikipedia does not care about clicks. We care about including relevant information that helps the reader understand the article subject.

In this case the fact his mother wrote poetry and her name and his birth date and where he went to high school does not help the reader understand the incident that is the subject of this article. Frankly we could call him "John Doe, 28, a PhD student in criminology who was arrested in Pennsylvania after driving the white Elantra there from Idaho" and that would basically tell the reader everything we know that would contribute to their understanding of the incident. Probably won't happen in the future either. This article is never going to be about the suspect. The only details of his life we'll likely ever include are ones the prosecution brings up in court as evidence against him. Even if there's a murder conviction, unless it turns out he's suspected of previous murders, it's unlikely we'd ever need a bio for him. Valereee (talk) 16:23, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

Well judging by other results and after reading about Kohberger's traffic stop violations near two unnamed towns in Indiana, it is 100% possible that we probably need a Wiki page about Kohberger himself; but we need to wait until more information gets through. Yes. The Kohbergers were pulled over twice on their trip back to the Poconos. First for Speeding and the other for Tailgating, both in Indiana (probably on the same Interstate). If you look through the latest from Law&Crime, dashcam shows the one Indiana State Police trooper pulling over the same Hyundai Elantra Bryan and his 67-year-old father Michael Jr. was in. Hello. At 2023 Half Moon Bay shootings I feel that the title should be trimmed to Half Moon Bay shootings as HMB only has a population of 10,000 and has a very low crime rate. We really do not need to add every detail we can possibly dig up into articles. We add content that helps the reader understand the subject. There is no universe in which knowing the maroon SUV driven by the 2023 Half Moon Bay shootings suspect was a third-generation Lexus RX350 contributes to a reader's understanding of that subject, and it's apparently your own original research which has identified the make/model.
