About template is unnecessary at List of Delta Sigma Theta chapters

Gentle help

Welcome to Wikipedia, Just to let you know, User:C.Fred and I (User:Naraht) are both members of fraternities (For him, Phi Kappa Theta, for me, Alpha Phi Omega) and we both have done quite a bit of work with Greek Letter Organization pages). We will be trying to help with the page, but you seem to have the most information. Finding appropriate references for this sort of stuff can be tough and I appreciate that some of them may not be as accessible as would be preferred, so if any of this can be found in relatively accessible places like "In Search of Sisterhood", that would be a superior reference. Please recognize that changes that we make are *not* intended to be negative toward you or Delta Sigma Theta, but rather to make it be the best page it can be within Wikipedia's rules. Please feel free to ask us about any changes that we make. WP:OWN is a great page that helped me understand that any page once it is created isn't owned by anyone, having said that, we all have pages that we particularly want to fight vandalism on *and* we have to recognize that simple changes aren't necessarily vandalism, but may simply be a difference of opinion. Alumni/Graduate Chapters

I *really* like your explanation of the Graduate chapters. In the best of all worlds, we'd be able to find out if it was a specific National Convention (Boule?) that made this decision.Naraht (talk) 20:52, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

List of what's missing?

Can we make a list of the chapter letters that don't have information for them yet, I can look as well? Also, I think I saw at least one other probably reassigned chapter since the chartering date for it was 10+ years later than those on both sides. I'll see if I can find it again. Unfortunately, "In Search of Sisterhood" isn't likely to help since it is after WWII. After we get things more stable, I'll start adding in references with websites like http://www.easternregiondst.org/chapters.html , which will cover a couple of dozen simultaneously. To do that, you assign a name to the reference and use the name over and over. I did that for one of the In Search of Sisterhood references. Also, while more than one reference is appropriate, I don't think more than 2 or 3 is useful. We'll work it out. This list is definitely working toward a featured List, but we still have some distance to go.Naraht (talk) 21:32, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

DST Chapters.

• The information that you included about Sigma (founding vs. narrowing(?)) should probably go in the notes section, Is Alpha Lambda at NC Central the same situation? Gamma Kappa is also *way* out of chronological order, I wonder if it is like Sigma or more like Eta (drop and reassign). Nothing else looks more than two years (Delta Alpha v Delta Gamma) out of place.
• I'm glad you excited, your reason for wanting all the chapters in once place is a lot like mine, both List of Alpha Phi Omega (Philippines) chapters and alumni associations and List of Alpha Phi Omega chapters are ones that I created. Fortunately in each case I had a data in a form that I could manipulate using text tools, a PDF for the first and an excel spreadsheet for the second.
• For the ones that are missing, it might be better to put them in if the assumption could be made that they once existed with a comment <!--Info needed--> in the school entry. I'm not sure where in the country you are, but I'm only about 15 miles north of the DST National Office, unfortunately a request of "Where exactly was Beta Omega chartered" would be much more likely to get a response if it came from a Sister.
• There are some others that have problems, like two different chapters at New Mexico State and a chapter at Maryland State University which I know doesn't exist (I'm on Alpha Phi Omega volunteer staff for DC and Maryland), Maryland State *College* used to be the name for University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but that has a joint chapter with Salisbury State. (and the NPHC constitution says 1977 for the founding date at UMES which matches to the joint chapter) All of the other places that might have been Maryland State University (University of Maryland, College Park, Morgan State and Coppin State also already have chapters).
• When this gets completed (or if you get bored :) ), there are conventions in List of Delta Sigma Theta National Conventions that don't have the actual date they occured other than the year. (When in 1969 was the convention in Baltimore?, for example)Naraht (talk) 14:16, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Letter Sigma and Letter Letter Sigma

It looks like from my research at for a time the graduate chapters in DST were assigned chapter letters ending in Sigma (one letter before or two) For example the Tallahassee Alumni chapter was once Gamma Eta Sigma and the Baltimore one Epsilon Sigma. Any idea if we can get confirmation on that or even (hope) a list?Naraht (talk) 14:17, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

I understand, but that information on what the grad chapters were originally should eventually be added, even if in another section. What should do think I work on as the next step?

• Adding the chapter template to the letters for sorting ex. {{chapter|Gamma|Xi}}
• Adding the namesort template to the city states for sorting ex. {{namesort|Jacksonville,|Florida}}
  • Note after these two above or done, we can combine the entire undergrad list into one with all of the sortable fields working.
• Looking for references for chapters in the list
• Looking for chartering dates for chapters in the list.
• Split off the graduate chapters into their own article
• Other

The graduate chapter at Denver, for example, should have the info indicating that it was once Beta Phi. What do you think that the entries for the Graduate chapters should look like? For example: do you want (depending on available information

Changes...

I'm glad that you've figured out how to have email sent in regards to changes to the pages, but no single user controls pages in terms of approving changes. As long as changes are referenced, anyone can make changes. Also, I appreciated the addition of the convention in New Orleans, but could you check on the themes of 2006, 2008 and 2010? Delta Sigma Theta coat of arms

The Delta Sigma Theta Coat of Arms has the letters spelled out at the bottom of the CoA. However Theta on the coat of arms is spelled ΘΕΤΑ , while the letter in greek is spelled ΘΗΤΑ. Is there a reason for this difference and if so, is there a reference for it that should be in the Delta Sigma Theta article?Naraht (talk) 15:15, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Things which are independently documented should not be deleted from articles. (and deleting things from article talk pages is discouraged as well). "Beautiful Beta"...

What level of officialness are things nicknames like "Beautiful Beta" and "Captivating Chi"?Naraht (talk) 13:30, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

The question then becomes which of them are verifiable/referencable (Wikipedia's standards). Note, this really isn't a question specifically about Delta Sigma Theta, I guess, since the same issue applies in the chapter lists of all of the NPHC members that have chapter lists on Wikipedia.

Category: Delta Sigma Theta

I've done some improvement on the category. I created a sub-category for the founders who have pages. (Based on the equivalent AKA page) and I also added all of the past DST presidents to the category. I think what happened there is that a Delta Sigma Theta presidents category was created, the presidents moved in there and then when that category was deleted, the category link was simply deleted rather than having them recategorized to Category:Delta Sigma Theta.

Note for putting people into the Delta Sigma Theta category, the guide that is normally used is that the women has to have done something significant as part of or in Delta Sigma Theta, *not* a Delta Sigma Theta sister who has done something significant outside the sorority. So for example, Partricia Roberts Harris, IMO, belongs because she served as DST Executive Director, Leslie Uggams, OTOH while even morefamous, did not do anything notable as part of Delta Sigma Theta, so she doesn't belong in the Delta Sigma Theta category (but certainly belongs in the Sisters article).Naraht (talk) 14:48, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
