Although some prefer welcoming new users with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, InfoKlepto, and welcome to Wikipedia! I am Sam Sailor and I would like to thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
  Introduction to Wikipedia
  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  Editing tutorial
  How to edit a page
  Simplified Manual of Style
  The basics of Wikicode
  How to develop an article
  How to create an article
  Help pages
  What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Do's and Don'ts:
  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
  Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
  Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't vandalize
  Don't get blocked

Remember to always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to this (your talk) page, and a timestamp.

The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun! To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:

  Fight vandalism
  Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles
  Perform maintenance tasks
  Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates

If you need further help, you can:

  Ask a question

or even:

  Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, place {{helpme}} on your talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Again, welcome,  and happy editing!

Watts image[edit]

Hey InfoKlepto. I saw your commented out note in the draft article on Watts. If you need help with the image, I'd be glad to lend a hand. I can walk you through, it, or your could email the image and info on it (such as the source [where you got it from], date, author if know, where first published, etc.) and I can upload it for you. If the image is Canadian in origin, it should be in the public domain if taken before January 1, 1949; If U.S. in origin it should be in the public domain if published before 1923 (since the image is from 1915 since it's from the same day as the race, it should be good to go). You can ring me up on my talk page, or respond to me here, and inform me using a template such as {{tping}} Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:05, 28 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Fuhghettaboutit: Thank you again Fuhghettaboutit. I really appreciate your help, and information. Who knows if I am even doing this ping thing correctly, let alone the image upload. I would welcome the opportunity to have you walk me through it if possible, or direct me to an easy version of the directions. I find the Wikipedia written one a little dense. I have all of information about the image ready to go. Thank you! InfoKlepto (talk) 05:20, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You used the tping template perfectly, and thus I was informed about your post:-) I am going to go through this step-by-step. Go to the Wikimedia Commons, our sister project. Once signed up and logged in:
  1. Click on "upload file" on the left hand side of the page under participate;
  2. Click on "Back to the old form" at the top of the page just below the headline "Upload Wizard";
  3. Click on the option for "It is from somewhere else"
  4. Next to "Source filename:", click on the button marked Browse; this will open up a dialogue box listing files on your computer;
  5. Through the dialogue box, navigate to the name of the file on your computer you wish to upload and double click it;
  6. Under Destination filename, choose a descriptive name in plain English, e.g., Harry Watts astride Tartarean after winning the King's Plate (1915) (it will automatically start with the name of the file on your computer, that name may or may not already be good enough);
  7. For "Original source:", state the source of the photograph, e.g., Page 2 of section A of The New York Times for December 6, 2013";
  8. Under author, fill in the author if known (i.e., the photographer or Associated Press, etc.; put in "Unknown" if that's the correct answer;
  9. Fill in the date field (here this would have to be the exact date he won the race right?);
  10. For description fill in anything appropriate that provides more info than just provided by the title (you can be voluble if you'd like);
  11. In the dropdown box for licensing, (and this take's a bit of explanation) you may not be able to choose the exact right license because there are numerous licenses, but they only provide a short list; you will be going back after the upload to fix this if necessary, but you must choose some license from the list or it won't let you upload, just choose "First published in the United States before 1923";
  12. Under Categories, see if you can find some good candidates, so that your picture can be better found and classified. If you can't find anything, just skip it;
  13. Tick the box for "watch this file" and then click Upload file. Voilà.
  14. If the file is Canadian, click edit at the top of the image page that should now be live, scroll down to where the licenses template is (it'll look something like: {{PD-US}} or {{PD-1923}}), replace it with {{PD-Canada}}, click save.
Now, go to the section of the article here where you want to use a file you've uploaded and add [[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text]] to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacing File name.jpg with the actual file name of the image, and Caption text with a short description of the image. See the picture tutorial for more information. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 06:15, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Fuhghettaboutit: THANK YOU! I am elated. Your tutorial was exactly the guidance I needed. I am a complete robot, and prefer to follow instructions when possible. Will have to learn to work for myself going forward. Thank you again. Will try to figure out how to license an image that belongs to me personally next. Also, my article was published, which is my first. I'm pretty stoked about something so little.InfoKlepto (talk) 08:46, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Lixxx235. I wanted to let you know that I removed the "seeking adoption" userbox from your user page, because you haven't been active for at least a month. When you come back to Wikipedia, feel free to add the userbox back with the code {{Adopt me}}. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page.
