Cantonese
HAHAHA, it's been all me for the past three topics (including this one). Alright, well... I nosily peeked at your userinfo once more, and I saw that you've been trying your hand at Written Cantonese. Good luck with it, many articles on these kinds of things are especially hard to find references for. I'm Canto, too. It's weird how different it is with Mandarin and Cantonese, and even more so... If we actually wrote out our language, it'd be especially complicated and even considered "overly wordy". Plus, you could be telling your girlfriend, "I love you!" and you still sound like you're arguing. Mando and Shanghainese are so soft... ★Dasani★ 04:55, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, right. I don't think that is a bad idea at all, however you may want to ask your parents for help on this (thank God we're both Cantonese; and by that I mean them and me, and I don't say that to be racist). Our parentals know a lot about their own culture (well Jesus, they should as they only grew up there!). Also, most (if not all) kids born or otherwise moved from Asia at a young age and grew up in a Western country really limits them, because they can't read or write. It may be a bit hard to find references this way; although I am able to effectively drill out an intermediate level of reading, writing, and speaking both dialects, I can't read all of the newspaper. I tried the Chinese Wikipedia, but most entries tend to be a tad short, and I mean literally. I think your parents assistance could help speed up the process.

- Ah, yes. My paternal side of the family traces their descent to Toisan/Taishan as well, although they were born and raised in Saigon, the largest city in Vietnam. They are all fluent in Cantonese and know enough Vietnamese for conversations, yet not quite at the level of creating speeches or even the Vietnamese Wikipedia (I showed my dad XD). It's pretty much the opposite for me: everyone is fluent in Chinese on my dad's side, reading and writing and everything even down to the whole cheesy "Ming Shot Ping And Now They Are Going To Kill A Dragon in Harbin" B-movies (c'mon, you know what I'm talking about!), but no one can speak even two words of English. And then my ma's side of the family is Chaozhou, but, like many Overseas Chinese, they were born and raised near Singapore and speak that Malay thing, Mandarin, Cantonese, Chaozhou, and English! It's a fucking mouthful, and I've heard it's similar to Hokkien, so much that it's pretty much like 60% mutually intelligible... even more than German and English. The articles claim otherwise, but my mom said that it really is.
- Well, could we find sources for it? Saying that "Hamasaki's nose looked like something the cat drug in" doesn't sound quite right. - Oh, and my grandfather died the summer I was eleven years old. (Grandma died ages ago in Vietnam, sometime in 1978 or 1979; coincidentally, same year Ayu popped out in a Japanese hospital.) I still remember though, I used to compare his head to a bun because he was bald (XD!) and then he always sounded like he was sleeping whenever he talked; after all these years, I think that's just the way they talked, you know, the accent and everything. It was still pretty evident despite over fifty years of residence in Vietnam and immigration to California, because he didn't move to Saigon until the ripe age of twenty-five. My dad said the accents were very hard to understand in Vietnam, and his mom was even worse. I suppose it depends on the person; I found it very easy to take in, but then again this was all at the ages of three and four, and you know the old saying, "People are different." re:Pokemon D/P
Well, Platinum and Ranch aren't really "merchandise." I take merchandise to mean t-shirts or actions figures that feature the game, rather than other games. However, you are the main contributor, so the decision is ultimately up to you, but I would say that since the merchandise content is only a paragraph or two long, it would be fine to leave it in the development section (or possibly the reception section.) And yup, I would say the article is about ready for FAC. Kudos to you for having done such an excellent job on it. I wouldn't have any qualms about being a co-nom, however, I wouldn't consider myself a main contributor. You're the one who did all the work, and the most I ever did was just save the article from GA delisting during it's assessment. Artichoker[talk] 00:30, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Context
Can you please read the context of my post's instead of just determining it's fact novelty. All of the edits are placed specifically within the category of it's use and have sufficient references. If you find the edits "space wasting" then perhaps as the moderator of the page "BoA" you could instead clean it up rather than deleting it with a half baked reason. If you think otherwise then perhaps you should let someone else maintain the delicate responsibility of monitoring. BTW, I know you're not all that crazy about Japanese music (making exceptions for Koda, BoA, and the beloved Hamasaki, of course), but the J-Pop article needs HELP. I tried to rewrite a few sentences, but still. Grammatical errors everywhere... literally.

- Oh, and a "dai lou" is Cantonese slang. I can't really translate right, but like I said before, I was born to a Chaozhou mother and a Cantonese father, and I only take after the latter: Canto is my first language. "Dai lou" is really like the Canto way of saying "dude". It literally translates into "big man" (dai = big; lou = man, person, familiar... I could write it in Chinese but I highly doubt you'd be able to read it, anyway). They use it all the time in everyday conversation, especially TV and phone. ★Dasani★ 07:17, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, see, that article has a lot of issues with the structure. ACSE is an ethnic Japanese residing in his motherland, and although I know he's trying to help out, his English isn't the best. I think we need to round up a bunch of people who tend to edit a bunch of Japanese articles (namely entertainment) and just get them to help out. I remember we all did this once with Faye Wong, BoA, and some other East Asian singers, and it worked out quite well. I only wish there was a template for it. Msg: Okay, yea, I understand the cross issue. I'll look up the interview source instead. So it's pretty much fact that she gets inspiration from God/faith, then, right? But she also uses crosses, Maria, Jean d'Arc, priests, churches, etc. Considering that she -does- believe in God, these elements aren't chosen 'randomly'. And as all those symbols are religious, it's safe to say that she gets inspiration from religion. As defined per dictionary for 'religion':

^ That's what she believes in, as she said in an interview.

^ That can be seen too, in the elements present in her work. So of course it's opinion based whether religion is a right or wrong word to use, but as no one is apparently in charge who really gets to determine what is wrong and right?
- I think you are addressing me. If so, how do you know she believes in God? Just because she uses some elements from the bible and she wears/uses crosses, etc. doesn't mean she's religious or believes in God. - Koda's Oricon interview said something similar about Taboo. Actually I'm thinking of adding a theme sub-section in the Musical style section, where sexuality is included as some of her songs incorporate that theme, "But" and "Taboo" for example. I saw the edits you made to the image section and I thank you for them. Pokémon Ruby box art caption
Hello, Ink Runner! I noticed you reverted an edit of mine on the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire page, specifically concerning the caption of the main picture. I personally don't see the need to mention in the picture's caption that the box art changed sometime during localization. This happens very, very often. Also, there's no significant difference between the early and final versions. If, for example, the cover Pokémon were originally planned to be some other than Groudon and Kyogre, and the linked pictures represented this, then the change (and its references) would belong.
