So sorry to bother you again but...[edit]

I tried editing your talk page so I could leave a message to say thank you but it appears that I am still blocked and my userpage says I have been blocked forever. Is there anything you could do about this? Again, I am so sorry to bother you but It is a little embaressing to have your page blocked if you know what I mean. Actually my apologies, you probably wouldn't know:-)Irishforever16 22:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are no longer blocked. Again, my apologies. Acalamari 22:24, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

please I am verry sorry I didn't know that I did anything[edit]

Please I am innocent all i did was copy and paste her userpage because i liked it. please unblock me! I am so sorry for all the troubke I have caused but no one seems to be answering me. HELP!!Irishforever16 22:14, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

there has been a HUGE misunderstanding.[edit]

I am new to wiki and I copied and pasted Allison's page to my own page and I changed it a little for my own needs and it is not her page! I didn't know how to make my page like hers and I just copied nad pasted it. I am not a vandal. I am soooo sorry for any confusion that has taken place. Could you please tell me how to make it seem like i'm not editing Allison's page? Thanks so much.Irishforever16 22:09, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Constructive contributions are appreciated and strongly encouraged, but your recent edit to the userpage of another user may be considered vandalism. Specifically, your edit to User talk:Alison may be offensive or unwelcome. Please use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do. Take a look at our introduction page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thank you. You removed nearly all the content on this editor's page, which is not constructive. Please use the + tab at the top to add comments, rather than deleting other people's comments. Thanks ArielGold 22:02, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning.
The next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User talk:Alison, you will be blocked from editing. Gscshoyru 22:04, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 • Understood: you are unblocked. My apologies for the block. Acalamari 22:16, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome To Wikipedia![edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Irishforever16, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes ~~~~; this will automatically insert your username and the date. Hi Irishforever16[edit]

I'd just like to explain what happened, and why you were blocked for a short time. I'm thinking that you saw Alison's page design, and really liked it, so you wanted to put it on your own userpage. While this is okay to do, most pages are quite custom, and what you ended up copying to your own page contained a lot of personal information that related to Alison, such as her committed identity, and her contribution history, etc. I removed that portion, but then while trying to thank her, you accidentally removed every comment other editor's had left from her talk page, [1] and then did it again, [2] after I'd reverted your initial removal. This, without an explanation, led us to think your intents were not constructive. I'm sorry for that, but here is a tip: At the top of the page, there is a tab with the plus sign on it (+). You can click on that, and it will add a brand new topic, without removing any of the page's formatting, or other editor's comments. This is probably the best way to go about adding comments to a userpage, until you get the hang of section editing. Take a look at the links given to you above to get familiar with Wikipedia, as I realize it can be a confusing area at first! If you need any help, you can always ask at the Help desk. Cheers! ArielGold 22:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you understand our actions, and that you can see the issues. And if you need anything, and can't find anyone at the Help Desk, feel free to ask here! Also, just another quick tip: You'll want to type the four tildes to "sign your name" after your comments, not at the beginning, hee hee. (like they go here) ArielGold 22:35, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCookie[edit]

For being patient and clearing up the misunderstanding. Thank you. Acalamari 22:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Irishforever16, I'm glad you're not upset or anything. I really hope you won't be scared off by this incident, and will instead stay here and contribute. Oh, and don't worry about being young, I'm only 16. :) Acalamari 22:49, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone can give out awards, not just administrators. :) It's always best to be bold when giving out awards to people. I don't know if there is a pink star anywhere, but you can look at some of the awards by going to Wikipedia: Barnstars and Wikipedia:Personal user awards. I hope that helps. :) Acalamari 22:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doh! Acalamari beat me to it! Hee hee. :o) ArielGold 22:55, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not very good at designing user pages, but asking Alison herself to help you might be a good idea. Maybe ArielGold will be able to help you with that as well. :) Acalamari 22:59, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awards[edit]

Anyone can give anyone else an award to someone for exceptional work or service, and you can find a list of them here, here, and here. ArielGold 22:54, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pink is awesome[edit]

Take a look at your userpage. I "pinked" it up! Also, I added "hidden" instructions for you to show you where you can add some information, just remember, not to ever put personal information like last name, or address, because this site is public for all, you'll want to keep your personal information private. I hope you like it, and if there is anything else you'd like done to it, let me know, or if you find a picture you like, I can change the one on there now. Take a look at Wikmedia Commons to see more cool pictures! ArielGold 23:01, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giving awards[edit]

All you do is copy-and-paste the award text. For example, if I wanted to give someone the "Original Barnstar", I would copy-and-paste onto their talk page, and replace the "message" part with my own wording and signature. :) Acalamari 23:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Barnstar! :) I've removed your two previous attempts in accordance with your request. By the way, you don't have to start a new section everytime you respond; when you want to respond to someone, rather can creating a new section, you can click on the "edit" button next to each section. :) Acalamari 23:24, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just another tip: the reason you saw that funny dashed border box, was you placed a space in front of the item. Wiki code is a bit odd, and it makes those funny boxes if you indent or put a space in front of your sentences But you figured it out! That's great. Congratulations. ArielGold 23:26, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't apologize, I was a new user almost a year ago. Wikipedia:Userboxes is the place! :) Acalamari 23:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know of any faster way to respond other than either watchlisting my user and talk page for easier access to those pages, or going into your recent contributions and clicking on "User talk:Acalamari". The other way would be to add a link to my user and talk page from your user or talk page if you wanted. Acalamari 23:37, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In a variety of ways: for three examples, you could add User talk:Acalamari or User talk:ArielGold to your user/talk page, or, if you prefer, something like Acalamari or ArielGold, or Acalamari. Acalamari 23:44, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow only a year? I was sure you'd been around as long as I have, hrmm... And Megan, the whole "box" thing isn't a disaster, no worries. But it just makes it wonky, those boxes don't wrap, so anything more than a few words warps off the edge of the screen, lol. ArielGold 00:03, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Signature[edit]

Alright, here are some to choose from: (And you don't have to put the "16" in your sig if you don't want to, in these examples, "Irish" links to the userpage, and "forever" links to the talk page)

Pink:

Irishforever

Purple:

Irishforever

Teal:

Irishforever

Blue:

Irishforever

Instructions: Once you find one you like, choose it by editing this box (I'll have hidden instructions in here for you to know which is which), highlight it, (ctrl-c to copy), and then click on "my preferences" at the top of your screen. Where it says "Signature", into the box, paste the lines you copied, (ctrl-v), and in the box below that says "Raw signature", put a check in the box. Go to the bottom of the page, and click save. Then come back here, and type four tildes. Let me know if you have any problems! ArielGold 02:26, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

< s m a l l > [ [ u s e r : Irishforver | < f o n t c o l o r = " 8 B 0 0 F F " > ' ' ' Irish ' ' ' < / f o n t > ] ] [ [ f o n t c o l o r = " F 6 4 A 8 A " >&e < / f o n t > ] ] < f o n t c o l o r = " 0 0 7 F F F " > ' ' ' Forever' ' ' < / f o n t > ] ] < / s m a l l >

Okay I'm not sure what you're trying to do there, lol. But that's the indenting that results in that "preformat" box, that doesn't wrap. What were you trying to do? Make certain there is not a space at the beginning in the signature box. ArielGold 23:03, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Okay, if you took the pictures, then you own the copyright. You'll have to release the copyrights to Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, the tag you'll want to put under "licensing" is GFDL-self. For instructions on how to upload the image, see Wikipedia:Uploading images. Hope that helps! ArielGold 23:22, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, would you like the image to replace the sunset one? Also, just a suggestion of course, and userboxes are fun and all, but you have so many on your userpage, that it locks up my browser. I think perhaps it may be a good idea to move the majority of your userboxes into a subpage, and just keep the ones that relate directly to Wikipedia. Keep in mind that Wikipedia isn't like MySpace, or other "Social" sites, so while userboxes can be helpful, it really isn't necessary to add a whole bunch of userboxes to your userpage. I hope you don't take this negatively, as I truly don't mean it that way, but having so many graphics and boxes can significantly bog down someone's browser. I'd be more than willing to help you place them into a subpage if you like, and pick out some to keep on the userpage. I'll replace the sunset image with your picture, but if you don't want that, just holler at me here, and I'll change it back and add your picture to another area. ArielGold 00:06, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re;Requests[edit]

Hello Megan, it's great to have you here. I saw the whole misunderstanding, I'm glad you got it worked out! It's no trouble at all, just give me 10 minutes or so and I'll be done. They'll be posted at User:Neranei/userboxes, which is where I keep the userboxes I've created. It's nice meeting you! Love, Neranei (talk) 23:27, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Thanks[edit]

I got to wiki in March 2006 by Google (kudos) and joined under this account, and joined under this account in December of that year. I made my first edit under this account on February 2, 2007 as Jonjonbt, and then got renamed to Jonathan in September, and no, my friends do not use wiki. I did have one friend under this account, but he asked me to retire him and I did, painfully. Jonathan letters to the editormy work 01:58, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:I read the comments above[edit]

No—read the first paragraph on my userpage. And I can also design a sig for you if you'd like! Bye! Jonathan letters to the editormy work 02:00, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did several signature examples for Megan above, and didn't hear back about what she wanted, so I figured she liked the one she chose, lol. ArielGold 02:07, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Irishforever(and lovin' it)

If you like this: Edit this section (click the edit link on the right of this section) and copy everything above this line. Put it into your signature box (making sure there is no space in the front) and click save. (Raw signature box is already checked, or your current sig wouldn't work, keep the box checked). Why dont you just copy and paste this code?

BEThis user is a fan of Brass Eye.

Failing that, it SHOULD be on the userboxes page under TV.

Reply[edit]

Like I said, the userbox thing is just a suggestion, and just cause my browser coughs and sputters at your userpage, doesn't mean everyone's does, lol. And nothing says you have to move the userboxes, except that it makes it easier to control your userpage layout. And hey! I like the signature! And I'm glad to see you got it working! And yes, I saw the award, and thanked you, but I'll thank you again here and copy this message to your talk page as well. Thank you! Tip of the day: To indent a reply, so you can place it under the same header, and indent it, type a colon ( : ) in front of your first word. It is a good idea to keep conversations in one header, if they are the same topic, or your talk page will fill up pretty quickly lol. So, to test this out, click "Edit" to the right of this header, reply underneath mine, and start with a colon, and it will indent your reply! ArielGold 17:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did reply on your page. You should see the "you have new messages" bar at the top, click it and it will take you to your talk page, and you will see my replies. I reply in the sections of the topic, making new topics for every reply, there is no reason to make a new header for each reply, scroll up and see how the conversations all stay in the same header, it is easy to keep track of them that way. :) ArielGold 18:58, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes[edit]

Okay my dear, I've placed some of the userboxes that relate to Wikipedia into their own special table on your userpage, and the rest I moved into a special subpage (there's a link on your userpage to that page) that is located at User:Irishforever16/Userboxes. I categorized them into sections, as well. If you have problems adding them, let me know, I tried to hide some explanatory instructions in the table, but Wiki-tables can be confusing, so just holler if you need help. ArielGold 00:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome, I'm glad you like it! And you have the other page that has more on it too! :) ArielGold 21:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
RE: Sandbox. Megan, the Wikipedia sandbox is reset automatically by a bot, and it is there for experimentation. Wikipedia is not censored, so anything in the sandbox is not likely to be erased. However, you're free to reset the sandbox if you want to by just editing the page and blanking it. ArielGold 22:11, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I'd suggest you just remove the sandbox from your watch list, don't read it, and don't worry about it. You can't spend your time policing the sandbox, and as I said, a bot resets it often, so it is really not worth worrying about. There are much better things you could do for Wikipedia ;) ArielGold 22:19, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Kurt Cobain question[edit]

Wikipedia needs to keep everything neutral :-) - The article does have a legacy section that does touch upon how popular he was (here). Hope this helps! Utan Vax (talk) 16:13, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If it literally said: "he like blew his brains out" then, yes, it was fine to remove it. As the article reads now: "Cobain was found dead... the victim of what was officially ruled a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head." is fine because it's neutrally worded :-) - And, yes, Kurt Cobain was an amazing musician :-) - If you have any further questions or need any help, please do not hesitate to contact me. Utan Vax (talk) 17:07, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Things like quotes need to be properly attributed (that means we need to say where we got them from) and they can only be very short and only used in context of the article (i.e. If Kurt was known for something, we could use the journals to back it up). But, as it stands, it's very difficult to do that without breaking copyright laws! Aww, and don't worry about your friends; just enjoy his music :-) Utan Vax (talk) 17:16, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have a house in Germany :-) I went to the Oktoberfest, ever been? No, I've never heard of it unfortunately. Are you a professional snowboarder? Utan Vax (talk) 17:29, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry! I added you on myspace by the way. That's cool :-) I don't snowboard unfortunately, but I am going skiing to Austria next February which might be cool. Can you ski? And yeah! They have Oktoberfest's all over the world but the main one is in Munich! Lots and lots and lots of beer there :-) And wow, it must be awesome to have a job where you can be with things that are a part of your hobby! :-) Utan Vax (talk) 16:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Papa Roach[edit]

Hello Irishforever16, yes, I remember you. :) Glad to see you. Um, do you mean "Papa Roach". Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone who is a fan of that band, and I myself don't know much about them either, but I can try to improve the article as best I can. :) Acalamari 16:14, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Add to the page. The "100px" is the size (which you can change accordingly, either to 100px, 200px, etc), and the "center" is what part of the screen you want the image in: change to the left, the center, or the right. Hope that helps. Acalamari 22:12, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! You're a rockstar![edit]

Thanks!! Ok, not to like totally bore you with long, stupid boring questions ( sorry=[ ) but do you know how i can put up a more recent picture via i photo? like it would be from iphoto. do you know how??Irishforever(and lovin' it) 22:18, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, no, you're not boring me. :) To be honest, I don't know much about iPhoto, and I hadn't really heard much about it before you mentioned it here. However, I suspect that images taken from iPhoto are most likely images that are copyrighted, and therefore, should not really be uploaded (the majority of pictures you see on websites are copyrighted). If you want to upload images that you took yourself, and release them into public domain, then that'll be fine. Acalamari 22:26, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest asking ArielGold about your userpage formatting. If I recall correctly, she helped you with your userpage a year ago, and besides, she's way better at that type of code than I am. :) Acalamari 23:34, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Pages Should Not Mimic MySpace Pages[edit]

Hello, I wanted to comment on your use of your User page, with regards to Wikipedia. Also, my comment and observation is not meant to attack or offend you but honestly, I as a Wikipedia User and Contributor am a bit offended by the use of your templates on your User page. It reads like a detailed MySpace page. I realize you are a young Contributor to Wikipedia but you still need to be mindful of the purpose of Wikipedia, and why it was created. Wikipedia is a user based encyclopedia, which contains various links or branches, all topically based, none of which are social networking topics, branches or pages. I found your User page when I wanted to look up other Irish Wikipedians. When I came upon your page I found it curious that you added a link to other pages about you. (Or something to that effect) At first, I thought you might be linked as a mention in other Wikipedia articles or linked to other cites on the Internet. (Perhaps you had written some articles, a book, been in teen Beauty Pageants, were a star athlete, etc.) To my surprise they were links to your favorite foods, templates created by you! OK. Now I cannot cite any actual Wikipedia rules, which ban the use of the templates you have chosen to use, in your User page nor can I cite any Wikipedia rules, which prevent the fashion or the manner in which you choose to format your User page but I do know, Wikipedia's purpose of use is not intended for Social Networking.
