spelling

You left a note on user talk p. with respect to [[Norman Birkett]: "judgement is judgement, not judgment; see this for example. But from the very source you quote,: "in Great Britain and many of its former colonies, “judgement” is still the correct spelling" Birkett is British, so the article about him should be written in British English. Only American topics get written in American English. (International topics are written in whatever version they're started in.) BAFL Teams Speedy Deletion

I have seen your speedy deletion post for Highland Wildcats. I have contested this. They are a new team in the major UK American Football league, along with 50 odd other senior teams and 50 odd college teams, most of which have Wikipedia pages. I can't see why Inverness should be singled out for deletion, unless you are planning to also delete all of the other team pages and categories, plus league pages, plus Britbowl, plus trophy info. Does this extend to NFL games played in the UK. Maybe the whole NFL? Not sure where the plan on this is going... JamesCollins (talk) 23:13, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Caricature/portrait of Edward Marshall-Hall

While Leslie Ward (the artist who drew the portrait of Edward Marshall-Hall) is noted as a caricaturist, he is also noted as a portrait artist. I don't see how the picture here meets the following criteria of a caricature: "a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness, or in literature, a description of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others." Ward also noted that his work had moved from caricature to "characteristic portrait", and that caricature "should be a comic impression with a kindly touch" (something seemingly absent in the picture in question). If you still disagree and consider that picture of Marshall-Hall a caricature given those arguments, could you explain your rationale? Emw2012 (talk) 20:31, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi

I know that there was a request for mediation in late January and that due to lack of comments etc the case was closed. I have tried to find the original request on the page for the Cabal but could not do so

To have it re-opened does one have to repost or can a request go through you here ?

I only ask as it was you dealing with it and probably you that would have closed the req.

Admission to practice law

Yes, the sections for each country are brief, but the topic is also very simple. What else could be included? I see that there is a separate article for the United States. Should there also be a separate one for England and Wales? Zoticogrillo (talk) 23:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually, the information is accurate. You can read the citation. A non-lawyer can practice law without a license. A lot of information was removed, that's true. But almost none of it was cited, and most of it was wrong and irrelevant anyways. If you wish, information could be added from those articles to the current article, however it must be cited. Ready for another run?

On your last adminship bid, I abstained leaning toward oppose. However, I've been watching you since then and think that it might be time to start thinking about try at it. You have apparently taken the opposes made during your previous run to heart and have improved a great deal since then. I suggest giving it one more month, but when you are ready, I would be interested in nominating you or co-nominating you for another bid. You are an excellent editor and it could only be a net benefit to give you the mop. Trusilver 16:58, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer :). I'd be interested in making another run, yes, but before we take it any further I'd appreciate it if you could run my edits through a fine-toothed comb; while RfA is a nicer place than it used to be at the moment it is still not Sparkly Happy Bunny Fun Land Adventures (actually that sounds like an amusement park that runs on LSD, so its probably better that it isn't). I'm sure I'll be fine on the content side of things, but the incivility which came up last time around may still be an issue. I'm not sure if it is, but I'm not really that objective in relation to my own edits. Ironholds (talk) 17:03, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
I have been spot checking every few days since your last go around, but I will take a few days and dig as deep as I can to find out if anything will cause problems. AfD has never been Sparkly Happy Bunny Fun Land Adventures, but it seems to be going through a relatively laid back spell. This will take me a few days to go through this and I will get back to you. Trusilver 19:41, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Indeed; it was scary when a guy with no F/GAs got no opposes on those grounds. The discussion was "RfA is broken!" "No, RfA is fixed". I'm grateful for the offer; I'll prod another guy who offered to nom me and ask if he can check into it as well; four eyes are better than two except in a government inquiry into genetic mutations . Ironholds (talk) 19:46, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Do you understand free licenses?

Please do not accuse me of disruption to make a point at RFA, I'm doing no such thing. This image has conditions attatched to it that make it wholly incompatible for use on Wikipedia. RMHED. 20:41, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

You mean those conditions which allow its use on Wikipedia in the way it is currently being used? It isn't a free use license, no, but the "thou shalt not use it in a derogatory manor and shall provide sourcing information or face smiting" thing is hardly a massive leap for us to make under fair use (especially a link back, which should be contained in sourcing info anyway). Ironholds (talk) 20:47, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
It isn't being used under fair use, nor could it be. A license is either free or it isn't, if restrictions are attatched to its use it isn't a free license. It needs to be released under an acceptable CC license or GFDL license, neither is the case at present. RMHED. 20:50, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Discussing Sun Myung Moon

The fact that Sun Myung Moon ends up sitting in the position of "the Faithful abd wise Steward/servant" mentioned in Luke and Matthew; as this is one in which the fulfillment of prophecy should ne noted; as in Gog and Magag being identified as Iraq and Iran. Is there a way to approach this on Wikipedia? Thanks for your input Unicorn144 (talk) 15:36, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

In trying to add new content I was wondering if there is a place where the fulfilling of prophecy is ever spoken of even in it's thoeretical areas as with those of Muhammed which are written of at such length where free rein and prophetic comments are made right and left Is there a place on the Christian side where this is permitted as it is in the Islamic side?? Nice article. One point: the article claimed "While at Winchester Schuster became involved in football, playing for the fifteen-a-side team". I've changed this to "While at Winchester Schuster played Winchester College football, representing the fifteen-a-side team", but it still doesn't really make much sense until it is specified which team he represented – Commoners, OTH, or College. re caps

I'm sorry if the caps offended you. It wasn't your edit that annoyed me. I have left a number of messages on talk pages and the page of tpbradbury explaining politely, patiently and then with increasing frustration that when there is a long box, if you shift a pic (from left to right) so that it comes under the box, then it causes the heading above it to be orphaned from the text below it. One does get sick of asking the same person repeatedly to use their "show preview" option and to be aware of an ongoing problem caused on a great many pages that they edit, albeit well-meaningly. The particular editor's screen may be more square in shape that most others, so that the problem is not as apparent as on a wide shallow screen where in some cases the gap between the heading and the text in the first section below the intro can be up to six inches deep.

Also on the subject of my CAPs, unfortunately one cannot discretly emphasise a word by using italics when making an edit summary. Sometimes its necessary. I probably should have written "her" or whatever it was, in the other summary.

With regards to the placement of the portrait picture, Wiki manual gives a very broad guide which doesn't cover every circumstance. Wiki manual gives guidance based on the direction of the eyes. However, there is more to composition and placement than simply the direction of the eyes. The position of the body is also an important factor.

Here are two classic examples by Titian.

figure facing to right of page, and with eyes turned to viewer's left to look directly at the viewer.
figure facing to left of page, and with eyes turned to viewer's right to look directly at viewer.

In the case of the portraits in the article on Norman Birkett, the Marshall-Hall is very clearly a left-facing pic and therefore clearly goes right. The Ramsay MacDonald picture does not fit the Wiki manual formula. The whole body is turned left. The head is turned left but the eyes are looking directly at the photgrapher/viewer. This means that although the eyes are turned towards the left side of the sitter's eye socket (viewer's right), the sitter is not looking out the side of the photograph. The sitter is looking straight ahead, as the Mona Lisa is. See pics below. In each of these cases the figure, needs to be placed with their back to the edge of the page, and their face turned inward. To place the figure with their body turned out of the picture is compositionally bad. Try reversing these two guys, and you'll see that it doesn't look good. Cheers! I'm no expert on that century. However I think the paragraph about the regency needs a revisit - Butcher Cumberland would have been 30 then and not a child and if Frederick was dead he could scarcely become heir. I suspect the intent was to bypass him and appoint the future George III as heir - one of his names being Frederick. That would fit in with our articles on G II and III. RE: RFA

Hello. I think the main concern is probably pointed out in the comments section, but the wording concerns me too. I personally think that adminship - especially nowadays - should really be given to users without the doubts, or the concerns, so it's hard for me to not oppose. There's something in the answers that makes me think that you aren't completely suited, and the points raised by others in opposition seem to confirm my thoughts. Esteffect (talk) 18:10, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

I accidentally reverted

I was putting it back to the original layout so we could talk about it. Can I please put the page back to what it originally was. I was trying not to have an edit war by having a disussion but before an edit can be made that is controversial it shouldn't be changed at any time. Chubbennaitor 08:45, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

They need to be reverted back to the 'blank sheet' of paper. Narson was adding some brackets we didn't need, I've offered a different way round of what he wants to do but he's still reverting back to his new edit. I'm not a person to get blocked as the only things I've done wrong were misunderstandings and the want to do the right thing. Chubbennaitor 08:55, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
The first two I did. I contacted him after the first revert but he carried on. The latest one was by accident. I've tried to resolve it with my last edit there as Narson wasn't replying. Why haven't you contacted him? He told me it was for emphasis which should be should be shown with bold. I put it back to the original. Chubbennaitor 17:54, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
YOU ARE TREATING ME WITH NO RESPECT. I remember very clearly contacting for a second time after the third edit to apologise for not undoing instead. Why is he not being told about this. He told me that he was using it for something like emphasis. If he isn't then I don't understand why he uses the brackets. I tried to reason with what he wanted in my last edit. HE started this why is he ignored!!!!! Why am I being ignored, read my comments!!!!! You are people who forced me out of WP before. I haven't done anything wrong. I don't wan to lie, why would I, I've never lied in my life. You've assumed I'm a bad man and you wan to ruin my life. Treat me with respect and I'll withdraw those comments. You've picked a bad time to have a go. I've had a happy week and all I've had was tell off here and etc. What I believe on what the use for brackets should be elsewhere and it should be bold. It makes it look confusing, even more confusing than the statement. I remember reading certain things. What do you think he said? WP is not my lfe and if you carry on the previous comments are permanent. Chubbennaitor 18:24, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Narson also believes that everyone is 30 and reads essays. everything he writes confuses anyones brain who's under 20 or not so bright. Chubbennaitor 18:29, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
It doesn't seem to make sense though. No-one who understands the use of the brackets will fnd it confusing as most will encounter them as something elsewhere. Chubbennaitor 18:32, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Treat me with respect then. I used a bad example but what do you gain from lying which you obviously see me as wanting to get away with. I guard that article like a guardian angel and anything I don't understand I query. I almost left WP because of people like you constantly going on and on ignoring my statements whenever I made a human mistake. Why is anything I say slightly forcefully seen as a personal attack, it's an excuse to stop yourself being told what people really think of you (not you personally). Chubbennaitor 20:44, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
They are all misunderstandings and after my slips of not writing enough you've got the wrong thing. Me, a GCSE A level average, did not make things up and my brain can't comprehend to why people lie or why they do certain things like chewing gum while in a classroom. I remember doing certain things and obviously I was wrong. If you want the reasons for all of them tell me. Narson's starting to get worried about me because of what you are doing to me. You believe you are better and in one of your examples I never said he said that. Chubbennaitor 21:01, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Look at WT:F1. I'm not putting words in anyones mouths. that is the personality you have shown me and it s someone who has first views not someone who has common sense. I've never been blocked so that means I'm trustworthy. I've had one detention in my whole life and I can go on but I'm insulted by your attitude. I thought we were getting somewhere earlier. Chubbennaitor 21:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
With respect, it isn't what Ironholds is doing, it is the import you place on what Ironholds is doing that concerns me. Believe me when I say that as you get older, things like wikipedia become less and less important as you gain more of a perspective. It isn't a bad thing to be passionate about it, it is a bad thing to be passionate to the point where it affects your RL mental state. --Narson ~ Talk 21:09, 22 March 2009 (UTC) (ec)
You don't need to have said everything I say that you are. Chubbennaitor 21:17, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
