First Lebanon War[edit]
Most sources agree that Hezbollah fought a successful guerilla war against the IDF and the SLA. Not because it expelled Israel from Lebanon (strictly speaking it didn't), but because the losses (perceived in Israel as unneccessary) changed the public opinion in Israel about the deployment in Lebanon. This directly led to the May 2000 withdrawal. The IDF was more than strong enough to stay in Lebanon forever, but ultimately didn't because the public opinion opposed it.
Most military defeats do no involve a surrender, even though the SLA did surrender. A war can technically be lost without losing a single battle. --Mikrobølgeovn (talk) 02:42, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- That's why I suggested putting "Tactical Victories Strategic Failure" or "Unilateral Withdrawal" for the First Lebanon War. You said it yourself the IDF wasn't defeated rather the public opinion voiced opposition to the military involvement.Israelusa123 (talk) 23:47, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
