Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, JFDinc.. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Please also review Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. -- Rrburke (talk) 12:27, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Various problems[edit]

Hello. I see from this edit that you have a direct conflict of interest with regards to The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. There are several issues here.

One, as required by our WP:PAID policy and terms of use for the site, you must disclose who is paying you, who the client is, and any other relevant role or relationship. This is not optional. This is regardless of what username your edit under while here on Wikipedia.

Two, you've said in edit summaries such things as "The production team will keep a tight review of this page from now on" and "we would like to ask not to post anything on the wikipedia page". Both of these statements strongly breach our Wikipedia:Ownership of content policy. Nobody...nobody...owns the content on Wikipedia. It is licensed under a free license, and anyone may change it so long as they do so in accordance with our policies and guidelines. You can not dictate who gets to add or change content on any article here, even if you are the official representative of the company that is producing The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.

Three, it is likely this account will be blocked as the name violates our Wikipedia:Username policy. We do not permit shared accounts. We welcome and encourage you to create another account that represents you and only you, and not the company for which you work.

Four, as noted above regardless of your username you must adhere to the WP:PAID policy, and you need to abide by our Wikipedia:Conflict of interest guideline. You should not be directly editing The Death and Life of John F. Donovan or any other article with which you have a direct conflict of interest. Instead, you should be proposing changes on the talk page of the article, such as at Talk:The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.

If you have questions, please ask. We'll be happy to help! --Hammersoft (talk) 15:37, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
