Photos in station tables

For the time being, please stop adding photos to the tables of stations in articles about railway lines. The images take up a great deal of space, do not integrate well for visually impaired people using screen readers, and don't add very much to the content of the article itself. Images belong on the articles about the stations themselves, and sometimes well-integrated into the article text, but please stop adding them to tables. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:18, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Also, you cannot copy images you find elsewhere on the internet, upload them to Wikimedia Commons, and claim them as your own work. You may only upload images that you took yourself (which you have also been doing), images that have been released under an appropriate free-use license by the author, or images that are in the public domain by law (like images published before January 1, 1923). In all cases, you must accurately identify the author. You'll want to read Commons:Licensing before you upload any more images. Commons already has a vast number of images of train stations in new England; there is no need to take them from elsewhere. I don't want you to feel like I am hounding you, but uploading copyright violations is a very big deal on Commons.

As an example: you uploaded File:2-mount-hope-mbta-station.jpg, claiming that it was your own work, taken in 2000, and of Mount Hope station. That is in fact an image I took in 2012 of Highland station on the Needham Line. You seem to have confused images of other stations as well, which suggests to me that you need to be much more careful before adding images to articles. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:33, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Quinebaug River

Hello...I noticed that you changed the source information on the Quinebaug River. Do you have a reference for that? I did some research and I can only find that the Quinebaug River named after Holland Pond, not Hamilton Reservoir. If Hamilton Reservoir is the source, that body of water extends into Tolland County in Connecticut and you deleted that so that's why I wanted to ask about a reference for your edit. Thanks. Oh I'm just as confused as you. It was originally ending in Southbridge and it made no sense, I used google maps and followed the stream up to the reservoir. I'll try to find a source that has it, if not I'll change it to Holland Pond.--JJBers (talk) 20:28, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Changes to Windows articles

Why did you change the syntax of the support dates? {{Start date and age}} may only be used once in a microformat-embedding infobox per the documentation, and this is the release date typically. Additionally, it removed the exact end of support date and replaced it with just a month, which could mean anything. ViperSnake151 Talk 01:37, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Confusion

Greetings. You seem to suddenly be going around causing trouble on Connecticut River bridge articles. Why is this? I'd like to know before I start reverting you right and left, and addressing the issue on an admin page looking for arbitration. - Denimadept (talk) 01:50, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm just learning how to use a few new tools, and the pages that were nominated for deletion did qualify for A11 as there was not reliable sources. The Route 3 bridge is the only one I deiced to tag. The other 3 did also comply too, but I wanted to properly test out the other tools. The other CT River bridges I did edit, I put information in. You can delete the revision for the speedy deletion if you feel it is unnecessary. I just feel the pages are unnecessary and are as important as a local stream crossing.--JJBers (talk) 01:57, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

You'll get no argument from me for most of your edits, and in fact I was toning down my post here when you replied, so I gave up on doing so. I apologize for the original phrasing. The Rt 3 bridge is the northern-most (first) bridge on the river, as I thought we agreed was notable a few days ago. Maybe that was someone else. The Enfield bridge image removal was inappropriate as it showed additional information. The Stub/Start distinction is somewhat vague, I agree, but it seems nicer to call them "Start" since someone might find more information about the subjects. - Denimadept (talk) 02:01, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

I agree with most of what you said there, and also I did say it was notable a few days ago, and it kinda is, but it would be better off not being a separate article, and more of a note for the bridge listing on the CT River Crossings. The Enfield Bridge photo removal was because it disrupted the flow of text, and I found no other way to fix other than simply removing it, and I understood it provided useful info, but it could of also been transferred into text, or linked to the page in some way. Finally, a lot of the Start articles had stub tags, or were very short summaries for history, and also for every single one I re-marked, the Bridge WikiProject had the page marked as stub, while the Connecticut WikiProject had it marked as start, which caused confusion with me...Oh well, I'm not the feisty user with these types of situations, and I agree with most of the points mentioned.--JJBers (talk) 02:15, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Alright, I deiced to try to fix the bridge image situation, which I felt semi-satisfied with the fix for the short term. Also I'm going to try to sort out the deletion issue, probably trying to re-list it in the near future. Also I'm going to try to attract traffic to the situation by helping other nominations out. Well 1 as you were the nominator you cannot close your own discussions, and 2 - Consensus is to at the moment delete and now there's delete !votes present you can't withdraw the AFD,

Forgot to mention but you obviously don't get to choose your preferred outcome - Once you nominate it it's then down to the community to decide what to do with it,

I would strongly advise you read WP:AFD and WP:BADNAC

Hurricane Matthew death count

Did you know?

Did you know that you can easily re-arrange columns and rows in the visual editor?

Select a cell in the column or row that you want to move. Click the arrow at the start of that row or column to open the dropdown menu (shown). Choose either "Move before" or "Move after" to move the column, or "Move above" or "Move below" to move the row.

You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has mainly worked on a new wikitext editor. They have also released some small features and the new map editing tool. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. You can find links to the list of work finished each week at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. Their current priorities are fixing bugs, releasing the 2017 wikitext editor as a beta feature, and improving language support.

Recent changes

You can now set text as small or big.[1]
Invisible templates have been shown as a puzzle icon. Now, the name of the invisible template is displayed next to the puzzle icon.[2] A similar feature will display the first part of hidden HTML comments.[3]
Categories are displayed at the bottom of each page. If you click on the categories, the dialog for editing categories will open.[4]
At many wikis, you can now add maps to pages. Go to the Insert menu and choose the "Maps" item. The Discovery department are adding more features to this area, like geoshapes. You can read more on MediaWiki.org.[5]
The "Save" button now says "Save page" when you create a page, and "Save changes" when you change an existing page.[6] In the future, the "Save page" button will say "Publish page". This will affect both the visual and wikitext editing systems. More information is available on Meta.
Image galleries now use a visual mode for editing. You can see thumbnails of the images, add new files, remove unwanted images, rearrange the images by dragging and dropping, and add captions for each image. Use the "Options" tab to set the gallery's display mode, image sizes, and add a title for the gallery.[7]

Future changes

The visual editor will be offered to all editors at the remaining 10 "Phase 6" Wikipedias during the next month. The developers want to know whether typing in your language feels natural in the visual editor. Please post your comments and the language(s) that you tested at the feedback thread on mediawiki.org. This will affect several languages, including Thai, Burmese and Aramaic.

The team is working on a modern wikitext editor. The 2017 wikitext editor will look like the visual editor and be able to use the citoid service and other modern tools. This new editing system may become available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices in October 2016. You can read about this project in a general status update on the Wikimedia mailing list.
