Thank you for bringing them to my attention. Generally we grant permission for use of images where it is sought for educational and non-commercial reasons and where their use is appropriate. I will contact Mike with the necessary permissions as I believe this complies. Often we overlook where permissions haven't been sought as I have done to date with your image. My point is simply that you cited copyright as the main reason for censoring my writing and the post of FAComms but you have not adhered to it yourself with regard to images. I was editing the page because it had been brought to my attention that it was weak and inaccurate with poor images. This was never meant to be a promotion of the Pottery - nor a wrangle with you over copyright - but an improvement of the information that is freely available to the public. - Mikes site is a commercial site selling pots. My photographs are for educational and non-commercial reasons...I had no way of knowing that I required permission to photograph my own pots? I know of no other pottery that requires this. I hope you think I have improved the article though. All good wishesTheroadislong (talk) 16:41, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
All pots are subject to copyright whoever the potter is. Pots work the same way as other art works I'm afraid - the rights pass on with the estate or are gifted to another party as with Leach which was gifted to the charity by the family. You have improved the article very much so thank you for that. I will try to organise an alternative image with copyright permission soon. This is my first proper excursion into Wikipedia and it really isn't very as straight forward or accessible as I had hoped so thank you for helping me to navigate some of the pitfalls. - I have never come across another pottery that imposes restrictions like this? I admit the image could have been better, it was taken a long time ago and my photography skills have improved since then. I am more than happy for the many many thousands of photos of my pottery work to be on the internet, but I'm not so famous as Bernard. All very good wishes. - I'm not bothered about getting my image returned to the articles but interestingly a comment at the deletion page states "The pot is an item from the Leach Pottery's standard range and is mass-produced. It arguably has little artistic content and is not protected by copyright. Therefore an image of it does not breach the Trust's intellectual property rights." The pots are made my hand so cannot really be considered as mass produced. Repeat production yes - but every pot is slightly different to the point where our lead potter, who was one of the original makers, can tell who made a piece of standard ware just by looking at the base and seeing the throwing pattern. We have a specialist IP lawyer who advises on all of this which I realise is more than most potteries would do but Leach is a bit more famous than most potteries so we are quite careful. Even so I don't usually bother chasing up on standard ware - we'd generally rather that the info is out there for the public. I was feeling provoked this time at being lectured about copyright!!
