Hi,

I just wanted to take a moment to explain why I listed Michael Kopsa as Johann Trinity. The reason I did that was Anime News Network initially listed him as such, but I must admit I kinda had my doubts about that as it didn't sound like him. Then I saw you changed it to Aeolia Schenberg and I checked ANN and so did they. And I thought to myself that make sense. Anyhoo, no hard feelings. :) Shaneymike (talk) 14:37, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I realize you have put a lot of work into these, but per longstanding WP:HOCKEY consensus, hockey player biographical articles do not have those kinds of navboxes. If I am reading this correctly, what you are looking for is already listed on each Cup Finals page. i.e.: 2009 Stanley Cup Finals lists the Penguins championship roster. Incidentally, I deleted the two templates, as well as the category. This is not intended as anything personal, but as noted, these templates have been deleted repeatedly in the past. It's nice to realize that someone can just run roughshod over my work without trying to come to a resolution, This is not what I call a resolution, While it may be listed on the Stanley Cup Finals Page it is nonetheless pathetic to have to look at that text without any flair. Why is it that we can do this with the NFL Super Bowl Teams, The NBA Championship Teams and MLB World Series Teams, but it cannot be done with the NHL Stanley Cup Teams? Jack Jackson's predecessor and successor

Hi there. I saw you made this edit to Jack Jackson, Jr. and just wanted to ask where you sourced the information. Tom O'Halleran was indeed elected to the House from the 2nd district in 2000 but so was Jim Sedillo. Since neither was elected from the 2nd district in 2002 (and indeed, post-redistricting, O'Halleran was elected from the 1st district), there is no way of identifying which of O'Halleran or Sedillo was Jackson's predecessor. As to his successor, it turns out that Jackson was not a candidate in 2004 and his seatmate Sylvia Laughter was not re-elected. There were therefore two new state reps from the 2nd district elected in 2004, with no way of saying who succeeded who. In the absence of a clear person-to-person succession, the predecessor and successor fields are better left blank, I'd suggest. --Lincolnite (talk) 03:32, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Alaska Legislature info

Thanks for the updating, saves me from a lot of work I figured I was going to be stuck with. Two issues, though:

• Alaska legislative districts do not evolve in the same manner as congressional districts. Many of the predecessors and successors listed are rather incorrect. The order of district numbers, usually along with the physical composition of the district, frequently changes following redistricting. Therefore, it shows that someone from Fairbanks preceded or succeeded someone from Anchorage, or vice versa. This may not be obvious to someone outside of Alaska.

• Did Kyle Johansen and Charisse Millett really switch their partisan allegiance, or just decide to leave the majority coalition? One would develop the impression that the former is the case. I don't recall hearing anything to that effect here in Alaska.RadioKAOS (talk) 07:22, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Johansen and Millett were suspended from Caucus, technically they are sitting as Independent Republicans, Mike Chenault said they haven't made a decision to allow them back in. I know that the districts do evolve I assume but it's more that I think I wanted to add their individual legislative districts, I don't have the luxury of living in Alaska but I'm working on all the Legislative State Senates and Houses.--Jack Cox (talk) 13:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

First point first - this assumes that the caucus leader has the power to determine the partisan affiliation of members, which is an utterly ludicrous assertion. If anything, party affiliation is determined by declaration of the member, either by filing as a candidate, or by formally switching their affiliation once a member. Too much has been made in the current Alaska Legislature pages about the ruling coalitions, to the point where it represents a serious undue weight problem. Coalitions have played major roles in the Alaska Legislature almost continuously dating back to the 1970s. I have yet to see any of the contributors to the massive amount of bullshit written about this coalition saying anything about any of those coalitions. This story - Cockerham, Sean (January 15, 2011). "Caucus fate to be decided this weekend". Anchorage Daily News. p. A1. - clearly labels Johansen and Millett as Republicans, not independents, not Independent Republicans or any other such thing. I doubt you'll find much of anything which could be considered a more reliable source. They're described as Republicans on the House Majority website, too.

As for the succession fields in the infoboxes, your response tells me that what you're doing is creating more work for anyone who might possibly be interested in anything such as accuracy. Speaking of that, the dates entered are generally wrong, too.RadioKAOS (talk) 09:20, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't quite understand the rationale of converting to the new infobox. The old infobox is pretty universal on the English Wikipedia, and this new one seems to be needless duplication. --Kurykh (talk) 07:03, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure if that's actually a good idea for Wikipedia. The primary goal of the legislature articles is on the institution itself in relation to other related governmental branches. The templates you are using are from Ballotpedia, which is a political racetracker website, a wholly different purpose from Wikipedia. I don't think it's encyclopedic to concentrate on which party controls what chamber when instead we should be explaining what each chamber is. We can add a line or section about which party controls the chamber, but changing the colors to indicate party control is, I think, not a good direction to go.

Also, we have a template that we use on all legislatures and assemblies. There is no need to create one simply for the United States. --Kurykh (talk) 00:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

{{Current Connecticut State Senators}} and proposed solution

Hello, Jack Cox. I am Sgt. R.K. Blue, creator of {{Current Connecticut State Senators}}, and we've recently differed over the style in which the template should appear.

Personally, I much prefer the style I created it in over the style which you have twice changed it to. I find that the party shading appearing over the names of the senators, as in your design, just makes the whole template look overly busy and is distracting. Additionally, the orange-colored title area combined with the default color of the rest of the template I see as a quite irregular color scheme.

My goal when I created the template was ease of use. I looked at a few of the templates of other states you had created before I designed {{Current Connecticut State Senators}} and then chose to omit elements I thought undesirable in my design. While placing the template under your style would indeed give it uniformity with those of other states, doing so would counter the simplicity I had hoped {{Current Connecticut State Senators}} would possess.

I feel that both of us believe our design schemes are superior, feelings which can often lead to difficulties on the Internet. However, I am a reasonable person, and I desire a quick and fair resolution to our style differences. So here is my proposed compromise: {{Current Connecticut State Senators}} is a template that will only ever be used on articles of current state Senators of Connecticut. These articles are maintained in large part by WikiProject Connecticut, which I am a member of. I propose starting a discussion on the WikiProject's discussion page to allow the members of the project to decide which template design would be more desirable. If the consensus sides with my design, great. If it sides instead with yours, I will graciously concede and yield to the will of the people.

Please let me know if you agree with my proposal to let the Connecticut WikiProject decide. If you agree, I'll post a topic on it here as soon as possible.

Easier way to do party affiliation

Hey Jack, I created an easier way for you to do party affiliation. Instead of using {{fontcolor|rgb(255,182,182)|█}}, just use {{Party shading/Republican/block}}. And instead of using {{fontcolor|rgb(176,206,255)|█}} just use {{Party shading/Democratic/block}}. I can create extra blocks for other parties if need be, just let me know. I already ran Auto-Wiki Browser and did the replacements on the pages in the Category:State legislative templates. This just makes it easier for you and for future Wikipedians. That being said, I noticed for some pages you started using Span bgcolors - I did not do the modification for those pages, but I could try if you would like. I have noticed that you have changed the template for current Maryland legislators as well as moving the page. I just wanted to let you know that the template is a collaboration of several members of the WikiProject Maryland, and we were wondering if there is a reason behind the changes. If the reasoning is purely stylistic, we would really appreciate you contacting us before you make changes on pages that many of us have worked on. Legislature navboxes

Can I just point out that it doesn't make sense to have one called "Massachusetts State Senators" and one called "Massachusetts House of Representatives"? The first should just be "Massachusetts Senate" to be consistent with the other, which is a name I preferred anyway. —Designate (talk) 21:51, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

You "allowed" me to call it the Massachusetts Senate? That's what it's called. Look: [1][2][3]. You can't have your own opinion over what the name is. And WP:COLOR isn't my opinion, it's a guideline. It generally applies everywhere unless there's a need for an exception (and there isn't one).

I've compromised plenty here. I was fine with the default navbox colors and there was no reason to move the page, but I let you do what you wanted. When you start talking like "I have no intention of changing it, nor will I." you're just being belligerent. There's some value in consistency, but that doesn't mean you can pick some arbitrary set of styles and stamp it all over everyone's pages without critique.

The session number and dates should be included. See WP:DATED (that's another guideline worth looking at). The reader has no idea how up-to-date the navbox is. That's why we use "as of" instead of "current". Most of our U.S. House committee pages haven't been updated since 2010, and in two years we'll have the same problem. Including the dates is just good practice, and it's what I want to do. I made the page (and many of the stubs) so I have just as much of a say as you do. If consistency is that important, maybe you should see if the other banners can include a date rather than removing it from mine. —Designate (talk) 00:12, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Ron Artest/Metta World Peace

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Ron Artest a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Metta World Peace. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Arthur Potts (politician)

Hi, Jack. Thanks for creating Arthur Potts (politician). I think it's premature to refer to Potts as the MPP for Beaches-East York. Unless I misunderstand, properly speaking the seat is considered vacant from the time the legislature is dissolved until new MPPs are sworn in when the legislature is recalled. For the same reason, I think Michael Prue's term actually ended on May 2nd rather than June 12th, as his page from the Legislative Assembly website attests[4]; and I don't think it's correct to refer to Potts' term as beginning on June 12th when technically it hasn't begun yet. I don't want to seem all nitpicky, but I think articles should reflect accurately the current state of affairs. At any rate I've made what seem to me reasonable changes to the relevant articles I hope you approve. Newfoundland and Labrador Election

I still do not see why people who are not nominated would be added in a table for candidates. I haven't noticed this done elsewhere and do not understand the purpose of it. In my opinion, if this was going to be done you would need to list everyone who has indicated they're interested in running in a district to the table and that currently is not done.
