Bolding players

I just noticed 79.178.134.192 (talk · contribs), who has been bolding the names of internationals in the current squad sections of articles about football clubs. He is the Idon'tknowhowmanyieth to do this. Have you got any idea where they're coming from? I find it hard to believe that so many users are making exactly the same edits independent of each other. Language question

Hi there JAELLEE, VASCO here,

I have one question for you, wiki-fellow? Could you please tell me why do sometimes you translate references titles to German, although it is an English article? I always thought it should be written in English, then add the correspondent language template.

Could you please tell me your views on this, and what usually is the standard procedure so i won't make such mistakes again? Thank you very much in advance.

Ah, I remember. I always thought that as title the "real" title of the online item should be used in whatever language it is an then the corresponding language should be added (I've seen it that way in several articles). Marfan Syndrome Article Graffiti Attacks

I have reviewed the history of changes on the Marfan Syndrome article over the past few weeks and have noticed an occasional graffito is written into the article. The vandals perpetrating these attacks usually do it without logging in, thus leaving no contributor trace. I recommend that whenever any of the responsibly acting contributors log in to do some more editing, first look at the most recent edit. If it is an anonymous edit, just revert the article to the previous edit before doing more edits. Leeirons 13:29, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Magath is a trainer, and can have strict training methods without being strict. Although, Magath isn't the only trainer with this methods. See for example the Co Adriaanse article.--BubbleBabis (talk) 11:54, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Flags in infoboxes

WP:MOSFLAG#Use of flags for sportspeople states "Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or sporting nationality.". I am not "indicating nationality in a non-sporting sense", I'm changing __national team__ references to the Fb template. I'm not adding flags to the county of birth, I'm not adding flags to club history (what Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 20#Flags in club infoboxes is about). So I think I'm not doing anything any guide tells me not to do. Geregen2 (talk) 19:04, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

And as that discussion said, it seemed alright in the national team section. I agree that the place of birth / clubs sections look messy with the flags, but in the national team section it doesn't seem excessive. I won't be adding any new ones anyway in the near future. Edin Dzeko

Who do you keep insisting that it should say SFR Yugoslavia?

In 1986, Dzeko was born in Sarajevo in the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina which was a socialist republic within the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

SFRJ Yugoslavia consisted of 6 constituent socialist republics one of them being the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

So you should get more informed before you say things like there was no Bosnia and Bosnia didn't exist back then.

Also note in all offical documents everyone that was born in the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina it says that they were born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and not SFR Yugoslavia.

You should try to get a compromise with the other guy like it should say for example born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina at the time SFR Yugoslavia or born in Sarajevo, SFR Yugoslavia today Bosnia and Herzegovina or simply born in Sarajevo without reference to any country.

Your own reference clearly proves my point as you say "should". Well, should is not DOES and clearly no one on that page finds it disturbing that it says California instead of Mexico if you look at the the log of changes. Now, Zec has repeated what I posted on the respective pages as a comment to the change so you and the the other two "editors" need to clearly back off and leave the correct, diplomatic, UN recognized, and/or otherwise proper information in it's place. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the country of birth for both of these players and that's what's indicated on their personal valid/current document's. You can keep the threats at bay as the information I'm providing as the rest of the "editor's" are is correct.

Suggestion

Instead of arguing the same arguments over and over at the user talk pages, simple start a discussion for each individual on the talk page when the warring starts (see Talk:Martin Reim). Most of the ardent arguers will never come there and you can have them blocked for refusal to discuss. For the rest, neutral editors are going to want to follow policy and multiple users telling them they are wrong can be effective. If, for example, Talk:Edin Džeko continues the way it has, conduct a straw poll which should clarify consensus. RFCs, etc., work much better when talk pages are used. You're lucky that it doesn't look like serious fights have been breaking out but better to have prior discussions to point to when the next round of guys come around. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 03:19, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I'd never even heard of Franck Ribéry, and I certainly didn't edit his page. I'm a university professor and to the best of my knowledge, the few edits I make are constructive. As far as I know, the few other people who occasionally have used my computer don't follow soccer. There's some mistake.

Vandalism

Hi there JAELLEE, VASCO from Portugal here,

I am leaving you this message because i saw you warned a vandal from Norway which has been removing stuff in football players' infoboxes. See all the details here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:EdJohnston#Vandalism).

Unfortunately, user/admin Ed Johnston says he has not been warned enough times and that his edits do not look like vandalism. Oh well, can't win everytime, don't worry i'll continue to revert his actions when/if they are bad.
