Jaime Martínez Tolentino[edit]

Please take heed of the COI notice above. I have attempted to tone down the article a little but it still needs a lot of work. I will leave comments on the talk page, but note that "The author himself" is not a reliable source, please see WP:RS. Finally, when you see an "In Use" tag on an article, please do not edit it, otherwise you will cause edit conflicts with the editor who place the tage, in this case me. – ukexpat (talk) 16:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message on my talk page, please see above, you are not a reliable source as that term is used on Wikipedia, see WP:RS and moreover you should not be editing an article about yourself. The article was created by Nyboricua, so how can you be the source in any case? But UKexpat is right, you should not be the source and you cannot verify it yourself, although you can discuss it on the article's talk page, provide references there, etc. Dougweller (talk) 17:14, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I never said that you were the creator of the article, but you do have a conflict of interest so the COI guidelines apply to you. The tags will be removed when the issues are dealt with - they are not a criticism, they are just an indication to readers of the article that there are unresolved issues. Please calm down. It is not "aggravation", we are just seeking to ensure that the article complies with Wikipedia policies and guidelines, as we do with any article. You are certainly notable, which is Wikipedia's principal inclusion criterion; we just need some sources in support. I have undone your blanking of the article - you just cannot go around blanking articles, that is vandalism. I still don't understand what the problem is. Is the article factual? If so, great, we just need some sources. If not, tell us how (on the article's talk page) and we will deal with it. Either way we need sources. – ukexpat (talk) 18:02, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Blanking, or stubbing and prodding the stub is not the answer. There was nothing contentious in the article, so WP:BLP concerns are minimal. I have tried to explain what we need but for some reason I am being ignored. I am looking for sources. – ukexpat (talk) 18:06, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Hypocrite: Thank you for offering to delete the article about me. As a working writer, the last thing I need ia a page about me with all sorts of notices tagged on it, as if there were something "fishy" about what nyboricua wrote. I thank nyboricua for trying to get a compatriot beetter known on the internet, but this whole affair has been a most disagreeable one and I would rather go unnoticed, as concerns WIKIPEDIA, than have all this doubt cast upon my person. I would honestly appreciate your removing the article about me from WIIPEDIA, and I shall not consult that source any more.Jaimema (talk) Jaime Martinez Tolentino

Dear Jaimema;

I regret that I can't alone have the article about you deleted, as we have a process that must be undertaken. It's probably best to let that run it's course, and see how it goes. There are ways, however, to get rid of many of the notices. The problem that the person that put the notices on the page has was that there were no sources of information. To get rid of the notices, we need locations (newspapers, websites, books, anything) that verify that the information in the article is true. Your say-so alone can't be good enough - otherwise, anyone could say anything! If you could look through the article as it is right now, and tell me where I could prove all the information was true, I would work on getting rid of the notifications for you. I hope that you are not too angered, as the people that put the tags there were just doing what they thought was right.

Hipocrite cannot delete the article - they are not an admin. Deletion is being discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jaime Martínez Tolentino. As I have explained before, the notices are not intended to be critical either of the creator of the article or of you. They just indicate that there are Wikipedia policy issues that need to be addressed, as I have attempted to explain to you above. Someone in this discussion asks if I am also the Jaime Enrique Martinez cited on the NYU Alumni page. The answer is YES. When I was a student at NYU, I used the Americanized version of my name (Jaime Enrique Martinez) but since then (that was 1966 when I finished a Masters in French at NYU) I reverted to the Hispanic version of my name, with father's last name first (Martinez) and mother's last name second (Tolentino).Jaimema (talk) 19:47, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jaimema! Your page just came to my attention on AfD and I wanted to contact you. I am sorry if the interactions with editors were disappointing and/or confusing. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is a fairly complex place nowadays and it has a quite intricate set of rules and guidelines; I am sorry you got caught in this tangle. Now, since you seem a notable subject for the encyclopedia, you have all the rights to ask that the article is correctly factual and neutral. We only ask not to directly edit your own biography, usually, per reasonable objectivity reasons (of course if you see plain vandalism/defamation, you have the right to remove it on sight). You are more than welcome to discuss at the article talk page all the suggestions you have to improve the article, possibly backed by reliable sources. Thanks for the message. I have noted on the Afd discussion page that you are no longer requesting that the article be deleted. Thanks for the Google books link - I will see if I can find a way to work that into the article.

The removal of the sentence about polio was probably an mistake on my part as I was shuffling around other parts of the text - I will add it back.

Images are a tricky issue on Wikipedia. If you have an image of yourself to which you (rather than the photographer) own the copyright, you could release it to the public domain. If there are no such images, then it will be necessary to convince the copyright owner to release the copyright in a manner acceptable to Wikipedia. Please take a look at the process set out at WP:IOWN. Once we have figured out copyright status we can upload an image and add it to the article.

Also, please make sure that you are signed in to your Wikipedia account - you left the message on my talk page while you were signed out.
