July 2009[edit]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Nipple piercing, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. 132 17:03, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thirteen squared, thank you for the information. i have carefully read the relevent links in Wikepedia and i dont believe i have a conflict of interest, as i am not trying to promote/ or dissuade people from nipple piercing, i am only trying to draw attention to some new research, which may be of interest to some people. i would have thought that contributors who have some knowledge of the subject would be able to contribute. i am surporised that there is so much interest in nipple piercing and breastfeeding.just to let you know i work for a University research unit and not a commercial organization. i do not stand to make any money if people become aware of our research findings.Jane66 (talk) 00:36, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"i dont believe i have a conflict of interest, as i am not trying to promote/ or dissuade people from nipple piercing" That's not the point. The reason I warned you for WP:COI was because of your messages on the talk page of the nipple piercing article. You are really promoting your research there and arguing with people who may not agree with your findings. That is the conflict of interest. You aren't discussing your research in a neutral fashion, as if you weren't directly involved with it, which is what needs to be done with any and all sources. Making money or not really doesn't matter. What does matter is they way you approach the issue.
Please let it be known that I totally understand where you're coming from with the issue and I totally understand why, I'm just trying to give you the head's up that the way you're going about it may be viewed as disruptive to the project. Please do not hesitant and please feel totally free to ask me any questions about this or general editing. I'm more than happy to give help where it's needed! :-) --132 00:45, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thirteen squared, thank you for taking the time to respond. This is the first time i have contributed to wikipedia and i would hesitate to do so again. i have learned a lot about the process of editing wikipedia in this process.Jane66 (talk) 00:59, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
