I think you meant on the Wikipedia_talk:How to edit a page page. Thanks, done, and I made some more edits on that page (to the last four sections). Jeff G. 21:10, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Nevertheless, i have put it under the help desk. See Wikipedia:Help desk#Minor question. Also, many editors\users mark them as major edits. Simply south 21:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I am watching. Jeff G. 21:50, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm feeling sort of bad because i strangely forgot i also put this on Talk:Main page. Simply south 21:54, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Signing Posts

I do sign my posts, always that I know of. What post didn't I sign? KP Botany 01:35, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

It looked to me like you didn't sign [1]. -- Jeff G. 01:40, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Well dang if I didn't. What a total let-down, the very first time I actually remembered a template without spending 10 minutes searching for the thing, and I was so thrilled to get the template right the first time. Now I'm totally bummed. And I probably forget it on another one and will get my talk page posted with all sorts of "you forgot to sign messages." I give up. KP Botany 02:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Terdiman

Jeff, you are doing great research and formatting, but surving the AfD process requires some subtle tact, and I'm pretty good at saving articles from getting axed. You've got some tough opponents at the AfD. I'm working with Terdiman directly by email to get some background information and more sources. In the mean time we have to be careful to avoid some errors in referencing etc. which will piss-off more sticklers for form. Specifically, his resume is not a reference -- it is not independent. Some of the other sources are marginal, and there are really specific reasons why I describe them like I have. Remember we can't use primary research at WP.

Kevin

--Kevin Murray 04:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Kevin, thanks for the comments. I appreciate all you're doing, although Edit summaries would help even more. My latest edit was because https://www.cmpevents.com/GD07/a.asp?option=G&V=3&id=475549 links to everything about him on that site (which should be titled in his name, and could reflect other sessions in the future), while https://www.cmpevents.com/GD07/a.asp?option=C&V=11&SessID=4475 links to just the session you found in your research. Any comments on Talk:Daniel Terdiman#To_Do? -- Jeff G. 04:35, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Jeff,

You are over fussing with this article. I'm trying to get the Delete voters to take another look. Adding those headers "main article" etc. made it look like a resume. It's a good format with good information as it sits now. Let me try to get some better references from Dan and let it be, if you want to win the AfD.

I'm sory about not making notes, I'm trying to get in and out quickly since we are both editing. I don't have time to put up the "sign" and I've never seen anyone else use it before.

Sincerely,

Kevin

--Kevin Murray 05:42, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Jeff,

I have asked Dan for specifics on his Martha Stewart Weddings, The American Lawyer articles, which he said are not online. The BBC and NPR work was as a consultant; I have asked for clarification and some way to reference these. I hope to have more on this tomorrow.

I appologize if I have been hard to work with on this. You are correct that my work-style can be a bit non-commnicative with others. Sorry. I have definately learned a few good tricks from you today. I'm not much on formatting. Usually when I am working to save an article from AfD, I move pretty fast to avoid an accumulation of Delete votes which are very hard to overcome.

I can see that you were trying to build an article and the AfD process jumped all over your work-in-process. I've had the same thing happen. It sucks, because once you get to AfD, your article has to meet the standards which are seldom met by other articles at WP. I build my articles offline in Word and then paste the content to WP once they are pretty sturdy.

Take care!

Kevin

Copywrite violation photo

Jeff,

You can't just copy photos off the web and paste them at WP. You are not helping to save this article. At this point we are about 50 - 50 that we can win. This behavior will prejudice people against the article. Please jsut leave it alone until AfD is over.

--Kevin Murray 08:39, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

The article could use a photo with appropriate rights. -- Jeff G. 03:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Terdiman

Jeff,

It looks very likely that we can keep the Terdiman article if we approach things well and tactfully for a couple of more days. One of the delete votes Alf, has indicateda willingness to change his vote if we can demonstrate better references. I think that the references are there, but confusing in the footnote format, because the jewels are lost within the many references to the articles which Dan has written.

Tarinth has expressed an interest in supporting the article as well but is hanging back. I've worked along with him in AfD before; I think that he will vote for a keep, but I think his stand-off is to keep us working on finding more and better sources.

I think that we can make some progress by reformatting the footnotes to eliminate so many references to Dan's work, and incorporate all of his work in one section with a footnote within the text referencing that section. Why don't you give me some time to try this and then we can revert to the way it is if it looks bad to either of us. I'll let you know when I'm done.

Kevin

--Kevin Murray 19:25, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm done with the changes. I think that it eliminates some confusion and makes the first paragraph less confusing with fewer distracting footnote symbols. What do you think?

I did not remove the link to Dan's resume, which was removed by Wickethewok. I would leave it alone and not get him more angry.

--Kevin Murray 20:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. That worked, but the bibliographic style we ended up with was inconsistent (and contrary to what I was taught). I applied a consistent bibliographic style, although I'm thinking about moving the parentheticals outside the links. I agree about leaving out the resume. I need to run now... -- Jeff G. 01:59, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Shadowbot2

Shadowbot2 runs at 20 minute intervals, but I'm working on randomizing its run times. As for the protection log, it's updated dynamically. Please note, however, that the code which HighInBC wrote isn't to scan the Main Page, it's for the Main Page templates. Shadow1 (talk) 14:21, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info, Shadow1. -- Jeff G. 16:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Those links provided exactly what help? -- Jeff G. 18:25, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

they were looking for something on CC poindexter, and i provided 2 things. one being an essay that he wrote... anything else?

Yes, please ease up on the "say something stupid again comments," however, thank you 172.197.40.4 for finding this paper for me, it was driving me bonkers trying to remember what it was. Jeff this user provided me with something I really needed that was driving me insane looking for it. I knew CC Poindexter had done something besides start the first African American fraternity, but, I could find no references on the internet at all. This user provided me with EXACTLY what I had seen before but could not find, an article by CC Poindexter on the embryology of maize done in the early part of the 20th century, rather obscure, and I would not have found it again because I avoid monocots like the plague, had found it through a university database that I don't usually use, and had only seen while researching maize embryology for a friend a few months ago. So, it wasn't vandalism, this user provided me with something valuable that I was seeking that I could not find without his/her help, and I would appreciate, in spite of the injudice use of irritating comments here, if you would unblock this user who has provided something valuable to writing an article about a minor but noteworthy figure who contributed in a few areas. Thanks, KP Botany 02:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Since you were so instrumental in saving the Terdiman article (congratulations), I thought you might have a trick or two for finding more material on Adam Bayliss. Personally, I think that the recent rewrite and research have established notability, but there seems to be a negative inertia that is hard to overcome. What do you think?

Kevin

--Kevin Murray 20:34, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the congrats! I agree about Bayliss, and have added some. What do you think? -- Jeff G. 22:23, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Misspellings

Well, sure I want to change "aritcles" to "articles," but where? I'm not even offended when people spellcheck my edit summaries, as someone once did. KP Botany 22:47, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Please see my latest addition to your User talk page. -- Jeff G. 22:52, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
In the future, feel free to go ahead, even if it is on my user page. I couldn't spell correctly if my life depended upon it, and I've improved greatly over the past few years. Most people actually think I'm using English now. KP Botany 22:55, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, but I got chastised above for doing that to User:Kevin Murray. Might be time for some babel userboxes on your User page, though. :) -- Jeff G. 23:47, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to disavow all knowledge of that particular article. I do have a user box on my user page, it's just lost amidst the sea of other junk. I removed the other ones when someone explained transclude to me. KP Botany 00:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Using a template for links from articles to Wikipedia pages

I noticed you write out a link from Wikipedia to a project-space page by hand. Thanks for helping with WP:ASR; I thought I'd tell you about the {{srlink}} template, which makes these links easier to understand for readers and also faster to type. (Usage is on the template page itself.) I hope that helps in future. --ais523 18:50, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I considered using your {{srlink}} template, but my intent was to make sure that this article Wikipedia, in particular, no matter where or when it is referenced in the future, refers to this webpage http://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_as_a_source, in particular. The template page's code itself Template:Srlink tells me that it cannot do this job exactly. HOWEVER, further research has shown me that the equivalent link it creates, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AWikipedia+as+a+source, which redirects to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_as_a_source, is just as good for my purposes, so I'm setting out to change to {{srlink|Wikipedia:Wikipedia as a source}}, which evaluates as Wikipedia:Wikipedia as a source. -- Jeff G. (talk|contribs|links|watch|logs) 19:17, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Poindexter

Jeff,

I noticed some activity at my talk page about Poindexter. There is some weird background to this. I got involved with this at AfD. It seems that the admin who deleted the article is somehow involved in the process and was uncooperative about letting me access the text for a rewrite. There is a battle of opinions at the main fraternity site including an editor who has been banned and is suspected of being a sockpuppet behind other names. It all got too weird for me.

WhiteOak2006

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for updating my post on Wikipedia regarding the 30 Rock episode. I didn't know too many details since I'm a new 30 Rock viewer, and was hoping someone would add to it. I'm also a newbie at Wikipedia, and think this is a great example of cooperative editing!

Take care,

User:WhiteOak2006 January 20 2007

Ccson

Why have you reverted comments on my user page that I clearly removed twice? You stated that "this is not your page", if the User Talk page for Ccson is not my page, then please tell me whose page is it.--Ccson 19:16, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Recently, you have twice removed postings from your user talk page. These postings were not put on your talk page to annoy you; they were placed there because another editor has noticed an issue with your behaviour that may require improvement. They are a method of communication and user talk pages stand as a record of communication with you. If you do not believe the postings were valid or have a question about improving your behaviour you can respond here or visit the help desk. If your talk page is becoming long, you can archive it in accordance with the guidelines laid out here. Thank you.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 12:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Do you just summarily revert or do you actually read what is being deleted. The user in question was asking me to do something; so how can he have a issue with my behavior since I had not and I indicated that I would not perform the task he requested. If he wanted the task completed, he could have easily performed it himself.--Ccson 21:34, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello JeffGent, the comments at issue on his page were placed there by a sock of banned User:Mykungfu.[2] The banned editor is clearly taunting User:Ccson by attempting to goad him into placing a sock warning on the user page for User:Real96 which was checkusered inconclusive as a sock. The banned editor cut and pasted the same message on the pages of several editors who reported him/her previously. Is it your understanding that said comments must stay on his page unless he goes through an AIV? thanks in advance for your clarification.-Robotam 15:48, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Robotam, I think it would have been more appropriate for Ccson to explain the situation in a reply on his talk page, and let any readers decide for themselves.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 13:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Ccson, I read what you deleted, and have just now read Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Mykungfu(64th). For me, what was posted to your page didn't come close to any of the personal attack / defamation stuff that justifies deletion.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 13:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

doesn't look that way . [3] -- annoymous nupe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.165.67.45 (talkcontribs) 16:05, 30 January 2007

What doesn't look what way? You're going to have to be more specific. I agree that the URL you provided is to Ccson's redeletion of info posted by 64.131.205.239 and 172.165.197.198. And that you appear to be posting from AOL, just like 172.165.197.198 did.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 13:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

It looks like you're about to get placed up as being a possible sockpuppet of user:MyKungFu by Ccson. A possible suspension of your account may occur. [4] . It happened here as well to user:Real96 [5] . A possible RFC may be in order [6]. Best of luck. There is an open season on users who are thought to be MyKungfu [7] , many times it is proven false [8] . This though violates good faith. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.191.5.102 (talkcontribs) 04:36, 31 January 2007

172.191.5.102, thank you for alerting me that Ccson posted "JeffGent is non other than MKF.--Ccson 21:39, 30 January 2007 (UTC)" to User talk:Robotam. No, I am not MKF. Yes, I have mistakenly used one of my home IP Addresses 24.90.165.192 to post to Wikipedia on three occasions after forgetting to login, and I'm sorry about that, I'm new here. Yes, I have once questioned and once reverted Ccson's wholesale deletion of taunting by MKF and its detestable sockpuppets. I don't approve of sockpuppetry, but OTOH I don't approve of wholesale deletion without sufficient explanation. If you review my many contributions, you will see that I became interested in Wikipedia a little over a month ago, found a redlink Daniel Terdiman in its article Wikipedia, went about creating an article Daniel Terdiman, got much assistance from Kevin Murray with saving that article from an AfD, and have been conversing with Kevin about that article and other topics on various pages (for instance, we're currently working together to try to save article Redhouse Yacht Club). I also hate throwing anything away and have an affinity for rule systems (including in this case punctuation and the policies relevant to talk pages). So it should come as no surpise that I became interested by User talk:Kevin Murray#Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion.2FCharles_C._Poindexter and posted this and just three minutes later (realizing my mistake of not having put a space in front of my sig) corrected my sig here. It should also come as no surprise that my User talk page is archived.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 13:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Jeff is not a sockpuppet. He and I have worked together on other articles and he did get involved in Poindexter after reading something at my talk page. --Kevin Murray 03:41, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Aritcle

Sorry, but the whole point of that page is to document a common misspelling on Wikipedia. Hardly notable, unless several reliable, third parties have commented on this. See also WP:ASR. Kaustuv Chaudhuri 01:00, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I'll have to check into that, thanks! -- Jeff G. (talk|contribs|links|watch|logs) 02:42, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Ah well, I've had my fun. The subsection which follows is how the article looked before Kaustuv Chaudhuri made it a redirect.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 22:12, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
