Country infoboxes[edit]

I saw you moved the infoboxes on Israel and Italy to the Template namespace. This makes them more difficult to edit, requires those who have these country articles on their watchlists to add the infobox templates to their watchlists, and serves, as far as I can tell, no usefull purpose. The Template mechanism is intended for templates - pieces of Wikitext which should appear on multiple articles. This is not the case with specific country infoboxes.

Please explain your actions -- uriber 19:14, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC).

I saw a few other countries that did that and I liked it. If you like you can talk about it in the "discussion" pages, I added a comment to both articles discussion pages.--Jerryseinfeld 19:15, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Well, I don't like it (for the reasons stated above), and since this is a general issue, not one specific to a certain country, I think it's more appropreate to discuss it here with you than on the Talk pages of the specific articles. Unless you can provide some reasonable rational for doing this, I hope you won't mind if I revert it. Also, I'll thank you if you could give me examples of other countries where this was done, so I can ask whoever did it what were his or her motives. -- uriber 19:23, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Every single one on the top 20 at least on List of countries by GDP (nominal) per capita. And now that you reverted the infobox you lost the information that was added to the box.--Jerryseinfeld 19:30, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I haven't reverted it (yet), and if I will do so I'll make sure not to lose any information (I'll copy the current templates back into the articles). But since you're saying this is widespread, I'll try to figure out who's idea this was and why it was done before I start reverting. Thanks, -- uriber 19:33, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Good luck.--Jerryseinfeld 19:41, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I am likewise reverting your unilateral actions. There is no consensus for what you're doing. Gzornenplatz 23:12, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)

Width of the infobox templates[edit]

Hi, I want to point on an issue- since your'e editing and creating infobox for all the countries (great job by the way!) did it occur to you that the width of the infobox has changed? This wasn't important unless for the location maps of the countries. Usually the width of the infobox was such that the location-map would fit just right (and not more) - but now the infobox is wider, and the map is centerd. In most cases, decreasing the width to its original size (so the location-map width is the width of the infobox) does not affect the infobox (i.e the added width was just more plain space). What's your opinion about it?

Thanks. I guess it should be as thin as possible. I don't know if there's a template guide of this somewhere. What I can see right now is Wikipedia:Infobox templates and Wikipedia:Navigational templates, but there's no country template disussion that I can find right now.--Jerryseinfeld 22:23, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
This may be the place Wikipedia:WikiProject Countries.--Jerryseinfeld 22:27, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
They don't seem to have any specified column width.--Jerryseinfeld 22:49, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Debt & CPI[edit]

Debt[edit]

As you'll have noticed, I moved the numbers from debt to Global debt levels = Global debt (and flows, but too long). IMHO, the main article should contain the basic stuff, like types of debt, with some numbers in between. Another thing: consider making less and bigger changes. I usually have the text in an editor and check the links with preview. Makes the history section shorter. Greetings, J heisenberg 13:43, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks.--Jerryseinfeld 16:41, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

CPI &c[edit]

You have added several pages on CPIs. Would you mind specifying which countries use it, what their difference to the ordinary CPI or chained-CPI is? If not I'd suggest a page listing those indicators "summarily". J heisenberg 14:28, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I dn't think I've written anything on that particular page. A guess in difference would perhaps be a difference in the "hedonic" adjustments, which is all a sham to.--Jerryseinfeld 16:39, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Personal consumption expenditures price index J heisenberg 17:23, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
That's what I added.--Jerryseinfeld 17:27, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Let's talk a bit about it... From which country(-ies) is it? What kind of index compared to CPI? What are the reasons to use this one instead of the plain vanilla one? (for example) --J heisenberg 17:37, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
That's what I would like to know. I really don't know it very well. I think it's the implicit price deflator for GDP, but with just the personal consumption expenditures component of GDP.--Jerryseinfeld 17:54, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
That's the new WP: writing an article one would like to know more about --J heisenberg 18:09, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Thats's the trick. You just got to get it started with.--Jerryseinfeld 18:10, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Seriously, From which country uses it? If people don't know, why should they want links to this page on other pages? --J heisenberg 18:14, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I'll try to get into that.--Jerryseinfeld 18:19, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
What exactly is "hedonic regression"? How does it separate prices from quantities? --J heisenberg 18:30, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I found a few links and will try to add something about it. They're all from external critical sources however.--Jerryseinfeld 18:31, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Now that Moneycentral article is pretty interesting. There is no reason to put it into an _encyclopedia_: CPIs are calculated all over the world, and only because Bush's BEA cooks some books, doesn't put it on the CPI page --J heisenberg 18:43, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
WP should last a little, this is not a speed contest

I would rather just have straight vandalism than the wholesale adding of unsubstantiated bunk. Paul Beardsell 22:33, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Copyvio[edit]

HI Jerry(cool name)

What is going on with copyvio thing on the Arab billionaire's article. I don't get it. Libertas

Which article?--Jerryseinfeld 03:59, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

(→Saud Abdul Aziz Algosaibi) Libertas

I don't get it either, we'll have to ask somebody else.--Jerryseinfeld 17:10, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Small apology[edit]

Sorry about the "some cleanup, still needs more" comment on government sponsored enterprise. I didn't check the history first and just figured it was an old page that was neglected, not an infant you were still working on. – flamuraiTM 20:16, Jan 7, 2005 (UTC)

That's very kind. No apology needed. I can't belive it wasn't there earlier either. Did you see the Danish mortgage market? I don't know if it's as lean and efficient as they claim.--Jerryseinfeld 20:21, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Mispelling redirects[edit]

To your question: Yes, there are numerous misspellings that have been turned into redirects if it is possible that people may write it in. For example, Hellen Keller - Skysmith 09:20, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Okay.--Jerryseinfeld 20:36, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi, did you place this on peer review? If so, I'd like to archive so I figure you should know about Wikipedia:Peer review/Citigroup/archive1 - there are some suggestions for you there. I'm actually going to archive the request as it hasn't been actioned in a while, so I figured you should know! - Ta bu shi da yu 00:10, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I cant see that I wrote any of the content in question, thanks for letting me know.--Jerryseinfeld 11:52, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

please tagging your image[edit]

Thanks for uploading. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Squallwc 14:18, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, what image do you mean?--Jerryseinfeld 16:55, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Invitation to join wikiproject: business world[edit]

Based on your interests and contibutions, I'd like to invite you to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Business world. Thanks in advance, --Leifern 19:24, 2005 Mar 31 (UTC)

Sure, anything with "business" in it, right?--Jerryseinfeld 20:39, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Input needed[edit]

I have been arguing for change in the industry infoboxes, but am meeting some resistance and would like outside opinions. Can you take a look at Template talk:Infobox Company and weigh in? --Goodoldpolonius2 20:33, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I can't believe you tried to argue with that person.--Jerryseinfeld 20:44, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I regret to tell that I've removed your addition, an external link to what I suspect is a Wikipedia mirror. Regards! --Johan Magnus 10:08, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You're right.--Jerryseinfeld 19:15, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

lots of edits, not an admin[edit]

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 14:19, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

Template:Edittest[edit]

Template:Edittest, which you created, has been nominated for deletion at Templates for deletion.

Okay.--Jerryseinfeld 14:36, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Also: Since it looks like you know about economic issues: Do you know anything about the Blue Monday hypothesis? BlankVerse 11:56, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I've never heard of it.--Jerryseinfeld 14:36, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. There is a survey going on about moving Blue Monday (New Order song) to Blue Monday instead of the disambiguation page that is there now. When I was searching for arguments against the idea (besides mentioning the Fats Domino song Blue Monday (Fats Domino song), I did a search at amazon.com and came across a book on the theory. The name makes it sound interesting, but I haven't had the time to look for more information on the internet. BlankVerse 19:02, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ernesto bertarelli-globbiz0317.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Until a more informative tag is provided, it will be listed as {{no source}}. Could you add a better tag to let us know its copyright status? If you made the image yourself, an easy way to deal with this is add {{gfdl}} if you're willing to release it under the GFDL. Alternatively, you could release all rights to it by adding {{NoRightsReserved}}. This would allow anyone to do whatever they wish with your image, without exceptions. However, if it isn't your own image, you need to specify what free license it was distributed under. You can find a list of the tags here. If it was not distributed under a free license, but you claim fair use, add {{fairuse}}. If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images by posting to my talk page. If you do this, I can tag them for you. Thanks so much, Superm401 | Talk 05:38, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying me. I didn't take the picture, and I can't figure out where i found it, so I'll have to go with fair use for now.--Jerryseinfeld 12:15, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry. That isn't acceptable. If you don't know where the image comes from, it will probably have to go. I'm tagging it {{no source}}. If you can't come up with accurate source information in 7 days, the image may be deleted. Superm401 | Talk 04:45, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay.--Jerryseinfeld 17:03, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Image deletion warning The image Image:Weill-wei0-027.jpg has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Image source/licensing for Image:Bloomberg-image1.jpg[edit]

The image you uploaded, Image:Bloomberg-image1.jpg, has no no source information. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Unless the copyright status is provided, the image will be marked for deletion on 24 October 2005.

Deleted article recovery[edit]

So I assume you just want a copy of it? I've done this before for people. I can restore it briefly, copy what was there and then email it to you (assuming your email link works). Does that sound acceptable? --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 15:38, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And yes, admins can always restore old pages. We have a special undelete log we can look at. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 15:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmmmm. Your email function doesn't work. OK. I'll restore both articles briefly. Once you have the information, let me know and I can redelete them. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 15:45, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK. They are restored as Michael Mayo and Andrew Susser. Once you have them, let me know. Don't take your time. :) --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 15:47, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Giving it 10 more minutes than I have to redelete the articles. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 16:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. :( Once images are gone, they are gone. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 16:16, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
