Hi, large amounts of external links that serve to promote the subject of the article is considered spam and should be removed. WP:EL is a guideline for links outside of wikipedia. Okay, this was done in an effort to bring the article up to the standards of WP, please don't take it personally. Wikipedia is an encycolpedia, not a collection of links. Linking all of Mr.Prendergast's online writing and all of his YouTube videos would be appropriate for his own website, but not here. A quick read through the links on the subject of external links I supplied above would help. As to the photographs, that was inadvertent. A gallery might help with large numbers of photographs. And as to the "resume" tag, it refers to the tone of the article, which, like a resume, promotes its subject. Barrages of publications, public appearances, and honourary degrees don't really inform the reader. Please read no ill will into my edits. The Interior (talk) 03:39, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

From what I can see in Ms.Powers' page, the articles linked to are in the Bibliography, which means they (hopefully) support and expand on the main body. As for the actions of other editors, I have no idea. There are literally millions of editors on here. I'm trying to apply the guidelines of WP. These have evolved over time, so perhaps the edits you speak of were some time ago. But they are quite clear about links at this time.

From WP:Spam - Articles considered advertisements include those that are solicitations for a business, product or service, or are public relations pieces designed to promote a company or individual. Wikispam articles are usually noted for sales-oriented language and external links to a commercial website. However, a differentiation should be made between spam articles and legitimate articles about commercial entities. Blatant examples of advertising masquerading as articles can be speedily deleted by tagging the articles with. Other advertisements posted on Wikipedia can be dealt with by either proposed deletion or listing them on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. On some occasions, the content can be removed temporarily on the basis of a suspected copyright violation, since the text is often copied from another website and posted anonymously. Before trying to get an advertisement masquerading as an article deleted, please check the article's history to see if an acceptable article exists there. If so, please revert to the latest acceptable version of the article. When an article on an otherwise encyclopedic topic has the tone of an advertisement, the article can often be salvaged by rewriting it in a neutral point of view. Elements of articles about products or services with brand names can also be combined under a common topic or category to facilitate unbiased and collaborative information by including information about the competition and about different alternatives.

Jespah, I am an editor with the same status as yourself, not an admin. You do not need my permission to do anything to John Prendergast, nor do you need to ask me to do things. I feel the "resume" tag is justified, and will stand by it. After changes are made, I will re-evaluate. You can remove that tag at any time, you only need to justify your actions with regard to WP policy. If you feel that the tone is not promotional in nature, go forward from there. Would I be presumptuous in assuming that your account is directly related to Mr. Prendergast? i.e. his company or someone employed by it? If so, some food for thought - Conflict of Interest is a problem on Wikipedia, in the interests of being objective as possible, editors should be very careful working on articles that they have close association with. Please read WP:COI, specifically the section on Promotional article production on behalf of clients. Hopefully I've helped you with some WP groundrules, good day. Relationship to John Prendergast?[edit]

In going over your dialogue with User:Theinterior concerning edits to the John Prendergast page, I was struck by two things you said - the first was your use of the first-person pronoun "we", rather than "I", to describe your Wikipedia editing efforts. Shared accounts are not permitted - just ones for individuals; see Wikipedia:NOSHARE. I also was curious about your comment that you couldn't make edits to the article right now because Predergast was travelling. Are you affiliated with him in some fashion? Thanks for the reassurance. You might stop saying "we" when you mean "I". It will confuse other editors. As to contacting Prendergrast - by and large, the subject of a Wikipedia biography is not a good source of information for the article. Subjects have conflicts of interest, and are - except in rare cases - not deemed to be reliable sources for themselves. If you need to shore up the article (or better really, pare it down) then the way to do it is via existing reliable and verifiable third party sources. By all means, contact him if you know him, but be forewarned that really he can't serve as anything but a pointer to sound Wikipedia sources. Thanks. Hey, can you clarify something else? You told Theinterior here that you didn't work for The Enough project, but here (for example - there are others) you have uploaded photos that seem to say that they are both the property of The Enough Project and that you took them yourself. If you *do* work for The Enough Project then you probably have a WP:Conflict of interest; and if you don't, then you can't be uploading their material. Are the photo sources misstated somehow? Nell, one of the reasons we are having circular arguments about this is that you are thinking that removing extraneous external links is my initiative. It is not. It is part of maintaining the encyclopedia. I worry that, although I have linked it for you several times, you have not read WP:EL. You are exercising ownership of this article. You really need to start working on other articles to get a better feel for how WP works. That other articles have exlinks problems is not a valid point. These sections expand and contract over time as inappropriate links are added, accrue, and then are trimmed back. Part of the "ecology" of this site. I really must advise that you think about WP as an encyclopedia, and not just another website. Your behaviour is borderline problematic, and you have made statements in the past that indicate a conflict of interest. Nasty messages to my talkpage won't really achieve much.   • First, no threats. I'm sorry if it came off that way - I was just pointing out some problem areas.
  • Second, the signature thing. I think the problem is this: In your "Preferences" page, you have to include a link in your customized signature. Find the tab called "user profile". In the box labeled "Signature", paste this text:
    [[User:Jespah|Nell]] [[User Talk:Jespah|(Talk)]]
    Click the box below labeled "Treat the above as Wiki markup". Then Save your changes, and it should be fixed. You can add all sorts of things to it you want.
  • Third, the mediation thing. The Mediation Committee handles large cases involving many editors. I don't know if you'll get a response there. You probably want a third opinion or editor assistance, there is also the external links noticeboard. But honestly, this is something that could be solved by us having a discussion about the relevant guideline, WP:EL. A good article doesn't need many external links. The section is there for content that can't be put into the article for various reasons. It's not a place to list all of the links to a public person's many media appearances. From everything I have read here, on The Interior's talk page, and at Talk:John Prendergast, reveals a user who is trying to point out various guidelines and policies to you in a calm and sincere manner and you are responding with accusations and anger. You need to take a step back and read the advice you have been given. I see that a discussion regarding the External Links has been started on the talk page, yet you have not even edited there since 2009. You do not own the article, and you cannot control what does and does not appear on the page; what you can do is provide your input and rationale on the article talk page so consensus can be determined with regard to what should and should not be included. Problems with upload of File:SatelliteSetinel.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:SatelliteSetinel.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

Wikipedia really isn't the place to be reproducing PR of advocacy organizations. As I've noted before, just because you can reproduce copyrighted material doesn't mean that you should. To someone who is unfamiliar with your background, "I was asked by The Enough Project to add the information about George and SSP. I edit Enough's wiki pages" (diff here) sounds like you are in the employ of Enough Project and edit Wikipedia pages on its behalf. I've explained at the COI Noticeboard that the association is in fact likely only an informal one and thus technically not a conflict of interest under Wikipedia guidelines.
