Thanks! I wasn't even sure how to reply to this... Is this right? Thanks for the links, I haven't started the adventure yet but I hope to soon!

Mosses and liverworts[edit]

Hi. Thank you for the moss and liverwort articles you've created. These little guys don't get a lot of attention, so it's good to have somebody working with them. I saw at Lophocolea heterophylla were unsure about how to do the taxobox.

  1. Make sure you italicize genus, species and binomial (but not higher ranks)
  2. All of the higher ranked taxa should be linked. It's OK to link to non-existent articles (see WP:REDLINK).
  3. Don't use "ranks" like "unranked_classis" and "unranked_divisio" for non-flowering plants (bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms). Use "classis" and "diviso"; the unranked forms are only for taxoboxes of flowering plants (where the most up-to-date classification has abandoned some of the formal ranks).
  4. You don't need any Wiki markup for images in the taxobox. Just put "Variable-leaved Crestwort.jpg", not "[[File:Variable-leaved Crestwort.jpg|thumb]]". Using markup in the taxobox shrinks the image and puts it in a redundant frame.
  5. Lophocolea was recently reclassified into the family Lophocoleaceae, although there are many older sources giving the family as Geocalycaceae. An honest mistake, and not a big deal at all.
  6. It's good to add the binomial_authority (the abbreviated names of the people who described the plant scientifically) to the taxobox. No big deal if you don't include the authority, but if you want to find it and add it, search www.theplantlist.org (The Plant List is also a good source to check for up-to-date family classification).
  7. You can often just copy-paste from the taxobox for the next higher rank with an article (i.e. Jungermanniales) to get much of the classification hierarchy for the taxobox.

You've got several direct quotations from the source in Lophocolea heterophylla, which really should be avoided. Some of the other material, while slightly paraphrased is still too close to how it appears in the source. Be careful with quotes and paraphrasing. You did do a great job of paraphrasing the source appropriately in Sphagnum fimbriatum.

Thank you again for your contributions. I hope you decide to stick around Wikipedia and contribute more. If you have any other questions, let me know (I'll be watching your talk page for the next few days, so you can just reply here). Plantdrew (talk) 01:19, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for your tips, I only joined two days ago so I'm learning quite a lot at a time! I'll try to paraphrase better in my next one! Jiainmac (talk) 07:27, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
