Welcome[edit]

Hello, JieLin627812 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Go through our online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! PamD 14:29, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JieLin627812 - Please do not keep recreating the article at AtNCED3.

  • a) You must be aware that an article already exists at 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase; we will not have two articles about the same subject. I have merged your material to the existing article.
  • b) Your material is far too detailed for a Wikipedia treatement ( which is why I have trimmed it down). This is not a review article in a journal, it is an encyclopedic summary. If you wish to add more material (to 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase), please be aware that exessive detail will be removed.
  • c) Your grammar is often quite incorrect, and needs correction. Undoing grammatical corrections just because you want YOUR material sitting there is disruptive; please don't do it.

In summary, please DON't reinstate the article at AtNCED3; instaed expand the one at 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase, with a judicious selection of RELEVANT detail, and let other people correct your material until it the English is suitable. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 08:40, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, JieLin627812, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, the page you created may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have. Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Unfortunately, the use of Wikipedia to host your homework assignment is not permitted (see WP:NOTWEBHOST). Please note also that it is not "your" page, even if you were to add all the information on it (see WP:OWN). It is instead the domain of the encyclopedia itself, and must conform to the policies of Wikipedia. Also, as Elmidae corrrectly points out above, as a duplicate of an existing article, your contributions to this subject will continue to be deleted or merged into the existing article by other editors (see WP:REDUNDANTFORK).

Who is your teacher that you are working with on this subject? Are they also a Wikipedia editor?

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!  Loopy30 (talk) 13:07, 25 November 2018 (UTC))[reply]

(edit conflict) JieLin627812 - in reply to what you wrote on my talk page: what your teacher will be searching for is not the main consideration here. Wikipedia is not a platform for teachers to assign homework on according to their wishes, it is a collaborative project with structural rules that must be observed. This site is read by millions of people every day - we don't want to settle for presenting confusing or substandard material for even a short period, just to accommodate some assignment details. Sorry to sound harsh, but that is not going to happen.
  • Please do confine your contributions to the existing page 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase. Further attempts to duplicate that article at a synonym name will be disruptive and probably lead to trouble.
  • Do let your teacher know that whatever you are contributing is to be found under that name. In fact, I doubt that will even be necessary because if they search for AtNCED3 they will automatically be redirected to the existing article, and if they then check the history they will see what content in there was added by you. So that should not really present and issue. Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 13:13, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Student assignments[edit]

Hallo JieLin, You and your teacher should read WP:STUDENTS and WP:INSTRUCTORS respectively, to see how best both you and the encyclopedia can benefit from your course assignment, and to reduce the chance of problems. Please read the first, and ask your instructor to read the second. Thanks. PamD 14:29, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
