Nim Chimpsky's Marijuana use and 4-word sentences

I see the Wikipedia article on Nim Chimpsky makes no mention of his regular marijuana habit. You cite this as "non-constructive"; however, Wikipedia is supposed to be unbiased and interested solely in facts and information. As such, you should add the following information to the article.

Citation: http://www.npr.org/2011/07/20/138467156/project-nim-a-chimps-very-human-very-sad-life

Relevant text:

While taking long walks around the grounds of the primate facility, Ingersoll occasionally smoked pot with Nim, who had been introduced to marijuana in New York City and even appeared in the magazine High Times in 1975.

"He actually signed 'stone smoke time now' to us first," Ingersoll says. "We were shocked. Although we were familiar with chimpanzees that did things like drinking and smoke cigarettes and that sort of thing, I'd never had a chimpanzee request weed from me. That was an eye-opener."

Relevant 4-word sentence: "stone smoke time now".

Durvasa Edit

Hello Jim

Thank you highlighting the importance of deleting someone's work. I had couple reason for deleting the edit in "Durvasa's page"

I didn't delete content by mistake. I meant to delete that section in "Durvasa's page". Person who wrote section about "Durvasa and Swaminarayan" in Durvasa article, his reference weren't working, that's why I deleted that content.

Another reason for me delete that content was that story is utterly "false" and it is just a made up story I know these swaminarayan sect very well. I'm born Hindu and I have deep understanding of Hindu Gods and Hinduism. My edit is based on the true facts from Hinduism, it's just that there is not any information available on the internet. To understand my edit, someone have to have deep understanding of the gods.

Give me another chance and I will try to do my best prove that my edit is true.

Thank you for your concern and I will get back to you with proper facts.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Swamydsp90 (talkcontribs) 23:28, 13 January 2015‎ (UTC)

Duran Duran

Hello,

I don't understand why you absolutely want to write "they were a successful band of the eighties" instead of "they were one of the most successful bands of the eighties". It's nonsense. "A successful band" doesn't mean anything and could be said of any band of this period who had a hit. The case of Duran Duran is different : they were everywhere, in charts and magazines and TV, and - as it is said in the article -, they were "a leading band in the MTV-driven second british invasion". How could they be a "leading band" without being "one of the most successful bands" ??

Every person who is interested in the eighties will admit that the success of Duran Duran was exceptional. Why wouldn't it be admitted in Wikipedia ? Please don't rewrite history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.67.184.22 (talk) 10:43, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

@82.67.184.22: Wikipedia doesn't care about yours or my opinion on the matter. It needs to be sourced. Jim1138 (talk) 17:28, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello Jim,

Thanks for your answer. But there must me some misunderstanding. The fact that Duran Duran were "one of the most successuful bands of the eighties" isn't my opinion. (I agree with you : my opinion is not important.) It's Wikipedia's opinion. It reads as follows : "they were (...) a leading band in the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" of the United States. Since the 1980s, they have placed 14 singles in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart and 21 in the Billboard Hot 100, and according to the Sunday Mercury, they have sold more than 120 million records"

A simple comparison in Wikipedia's "List of best-selling artists" will show you that Duran Duran is one of the only 5 or 10 bands having made their career essentially in the eighties to feature there. And I have to add something : the sentence saying "they were a successful band of the eighties" is less true than the one saying "they were one of the most successful bands of the eighties". Why ? Because the first would mean that sometime in the eighties they had some success, amongst other bands, and that they are not successful anymore. Whereas "they were one of the most successful bands of the eighties" is far closer to the truth : it means that if they are still active, and still successful, they had an exceptional peak in their career back in the eighties.

And, last, I have one question : how do you want to "source" an information which says that they were "one of the most" ? It's an information which comes from pure logic. If I say that "Michael Jackson is one of the most popular singers in the world", will you want it to be "sourced" ? And if I say that John Kennedy was "one of the most popular presidents of the twentieth century", will you want it to be "sourced" ? And if I say that "Victor Hugo is one of the most famous french writers", will you want it to be "sourced" ?

"Source" isn't everything. Or then you will have the ersatz of an encyclopedy. "Duran Duran are an english band" : does it have to be sourced ? Of course not. Denying facts that are simply visible to everybody - and doing it just because of a dogma ("everything has to be sourced") - is rewriting history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.67.184.22 (talk) 14:33, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

@82.67.184.22: I would suggest that when you make an edit like that, you state in the wp:edit summary where you got the information from, etc. Unless the source states "one of the most successful bands" or something paraphrasing such, making that statement (while perhaps valid) is generally considered wp:synthesis and should be avoided. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 18:08, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

I would recommend finding on online source for the Russian patent before adding that. Please avoid wp:puffery. See template:cite patent wp:cite and wp:reliable sources. I am just a lowly editor and I could do nothing with a copy of your patent. Strange revision history of BBC Two '1991–2001' idents

Hello, Jim1138. I'm interested to know ... who is the banned user that you were referring to in this edit summary? I've noticed that an anonymous user, who seems to have a dynamic IP address, keeps showing up periodically to add a large amount of unsourced text to the article (often with a bizarre, exclamatory summary – I'm assuming that this edit, which I've just reverted, is by the same person). SuperMarioMan ( talk ) 19:59, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure how I got started on this. It's been six months since this. I think I looked carefully at one of the first edits I reverted and came to the conclusion that the IP was making stuff up. That the addition had nothing to do with history. Since, I just revert the apparent restoration of it. Not sure where the "banned" came from might have been from another IP on the Idents page. Kind of gave up on it and removed it from my watchlist. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 16:09, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Household Remedies, warts, etc

My edit of the treatment for warts was taken down literally the second it went up - how is it possible to properly consider an editing of a page on warts in 2 seconds? Why does a section on home remedies for warts require medical verification? Menrad (talk) 00:25, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Wart remedy response understood

I do get your point, certainly It's just that I couldn't achieve in 8 years with all that expensive, painful cryogenic stuff, salicylic acid, etc (which are happily listed on the Wikipedia Warts Page which you diligently maintain) what I achieved in 8 days with vinegar on a plaster. Astonishingly effective. I just wish that I had looked further than Wikipedia several years ago, when I looked it all up in quasi-desperation for an alternative. US citizens make do how they can with their health care system. The Mayo Clinic doesn't even have it listed in their "Alternative Medicine" section on warts!

Something stinks and it sure ain't my finger.

thanks, Menrad (talk) 04:28, 6 April 2015 (UTC)menradMenrad (talk) 04:28, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Menrad That's an excellent example of anecdotal evidence! You could resolve this: Do a double blind study, get good results, and publish it. Then add it to Wikipedia. If it works, why hasn't this been done before? BTW: Spontaneous remission is healing for no apparent reason. Perhaps you are a case? Or, maybe vinegar makes most warts worse and you just happen to be one of the lucky few? That's why careful studies are mandated. For your entertainment, look at edit history of wart.

Compositio Mathematica

Hi Jim1138. Thanks for your input on this. As you can see, I was correcting the repeated misspelling of Compositio MathEmatica as Compositio Mathmatica (sic), in a series of rushed edits by 66.74.176.59.

Thanks for removing the offensive remarks on my talk page. I am usually an IP editor, but 66.74.176.59 often takes corrections somewhat personally, hence my creating an account for better privacy. I have drawn his/her attention to WP:NPA and WP:PERSONAL, as have many other editors.

Some examples of this user's attacks on other users for correcting edits are here, as well as on the user's own talk page, so you will understand that the accusations of racism against me were to be expected:

Rant

And certainly it does not take more than one experience to know just who can be counted upon. Thank you for being so expressive in your communication to join others in a movement to what seems like a permanent block. It just goes to show that in an organization the purports itself to be a community there certainly can be a movement to expel those that you find potentially disagreeable. That is to be expected in an organization that promotes only from within those that it believes are mutually non-disagreeable especially to the higher uppers in an hierarchy. I see that ClaireWatzel thought she had a lead with a sock puppet. Such a disappointment. That is what happens when knee jerk is the norm instead of careful due diligence especially with public information. At least there is a record of the connivery or is it the plan to edit it or archive it into oblivion so that the WP layperson probably cannot find it?William Sommer (talk) 06:01, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

China tropical cyclone rainfall climatology

Jim1138,

I removed the Taiwan/Taipei part because Taiwan is a de facto independent country. It should not be seen as a part of China or called "Taipei". I will create a new page "Taiwan tropical cyclone rainfall climatology" if it is needed.

Radio Disney

Hello! Thank you for the message and concern! I'm so sorry it was unexplained. But there were no confirmed sources for the changes made before my edit even though I've scoured the Internet to make sure I wouldn't make a mistake. Do you reckon I should add a citation? I'll look into it. Some vandal added a nonexistent award category and Stylatorarmy for the presenter when I know for a fact it's a big Twitter fan account and I've witnessed fans from Twitter editing Wiki pages for the gags. For the pre-show, Kelsea Ballerini hasn't confirmed anything regarding the song choice. Thankss. Swirlyloop (talk) 08:53, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited M. S. All my initial entries have already been revised and cited sources to avoid being challenged online. The article entry portion however has been intepreted into the Bahasa Malay version and placed there. Appreciate if this can be reviewed before publishing in the future as it may mislead readers into multiple confusions. Thank you. Adamccl (talk) 08:00, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Michael St. Laurent

Dear Jim1138;

You removed a section of information I provided on Michael St. Laurent because it did not have proper citation. I am Michael's cousin, Bradley. His mother Hazel was my grandfather's sister. I have been compiling family research for quite some time now, and so I've learned about Michael and his fame in the drag queen community. I know his birth name, birth date, et cetera. I can't provide proper citation because known of the information I've gathered is online or in news articles. I've simply gathered it from relatives who've grown up with him and know more about him than I do. I just wanted to give the public a little more information on Wikipedia, since he is very well-known. If there's a way for me to properly cite my information, you would have to tell me how; but everything I've written in that article is true.

Thank you, 76.5.134.70 (talk) 03:03, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

The info That you are highlighting is correct to the best of my knowledge.

Anandji, who appeared as a judge of a singning competition (Antakshari)in Gokul Dham, is one half of the famous Bollywood music director pair Kalyanji and Anandji. Vishakha Singh and Tusshar Kapoor came together with Vinay pathak to promote Bajatey Raho,a bollywood film.

Re: Reverting others' edits

My edit summaries when reverting Ararat arev used to explain my reasoning, but I've just gotten tired of doing that with him. He's a banned user, so his edits can be reverted on sight. Moreover, for the past six months he's been pushing a very specific aspect of his wildly fringe POV, in such an repetitive and obvious way that it really amounts to trolling. The first time he pops up on a page, I point out that it's a sockpuppet of Ararat arev in my edit summary for the first revert. After I've done that, I really don't see the point in explaining further. A. Parrot (talk) 03:49, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Panzer III Ausf A though D

The Panzer III Ausf A though D where not prototypes but in fact production variations. The Ausf E was the first of the Panzer III sub types to have torsion bar suspension but not the first production type that was the A.
