Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad I was able to add some clarity. I tried to be thorough in my explanation and rationale, both for the benefit of both parties as well as to assist any future advisors. As for the soapbox concern, I stand by my previous comments. I've seen a fair amount of soapbox, but this doesn't quite fit the definition. Can you be more specific? (answer below rather than my talk page to keep the thread). I just think there's an agenda there. If you look at their edits, they're all of a similar nature - changing nationality to French-Canadian. Who knows what the preference of the people in question might be? I certainly wasn't able to find any mention of Villeneuve's heritage or what...label...he might prefer when I looked around through outside interviews etc. Going through the wiki willy-nilly changing the nationality of French-speaking Quebecers like that without knowing what their individual circumstances or preference might be just seems like a bad idea. For instance - Jacques Villeneuve. He was raised in Monaco and now lives in Andorra. I highly doubt he self-identifies as Quebecois or even French-Canadian. I can't imagine he cares much. Yet a few days ago Sombracier changed that article as well. Read the article explaining why he left Quebec. He doesn't want his children raised in Quebec, so it doesn't sound like he's particularly attached to the province, right?

Anyway, in my opinion, even if there is outside confirmation that an individual prefers "Quebecois" (for instance) rather than "Canadian", that doesn't change their actual nationality. Even in that case, I think it's something that should be noted under "Personal Life" rather than in the lead sentence. Do you think I'm off-base? I thought this was an isolated case. I was not aware that Sombracier was on a mission to add the label "French Canadian" to multiple biographies. I can see he hasn't made any changes after I explained the guidelines. If he was ignorant of the guidelines, then I think we should assume good faith or perhaps assume no clue rather than some "hidden agenda". As far as the other articles go, I believe the 2 conditions I stated on the Talk:Denis Villeneuve applies to all biographies. As per the intro of WP:Biographies of living persons and the The Manual of Style on Biographies which I quoted on Talk:Denis Villeneuve; the articles should state "Canadian" rather than "French Canadian" until Sombracier47 (or another) can provide proof from reliable sources that 1. such a label would not cause harm to the subject (unlikely if he publicly self identifies as French Canadian) and 2. that being French Canadian is relevant to his notability. That being said, before you go on your own mission and revert all his additions because Dig deeper said X, it might be wise to reach out to one or two of the editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Living people. They likely have more experience dealing with these sorts of biography issues than I do, and they'll steer you in the right direction. Dig Deeper (talk) 17:14, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
