Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, JimmyGOZ. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Barrick Gold, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:32, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Undisclosed paid contributions[edit]

Information icon

Hello JimmyGOZ. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, such as the edit you made to Barrick Gold, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:JimmyGOZ. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=JimmyGOZ|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:32, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As previously advised, your edits, such as the edit you made to Barrick Gold, give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:JimmyGOZ, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=JimmyGOZ|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:33, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You still have not responded or taken action to the inquiry regarding your appearance as an undisclosed paid editor. If you make any additional edits without complying you may be blocked from editing. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:34, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning[edit]

You may be blocked from editing without further warning if you make any further edits without responding to the inquiry you received regarding undisclosed paid editing. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:34, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent further undisclosed paid contributions/conflict of interest editing, and because this appears to be a promotion-only account.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:35, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I am not a paid contributor, I simply have interest in this topic and am updating outdated information to keep Wikipedia helpful for readers. JimmyGOZ (talk) 18:44, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I don't believe that you happened on this topic by chance. You'll need to go into more detail about your connection to Barrick Gold and/or why you are editing about this topic. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 18:50, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

JimmyGOZ, this unblock request is likely going nowhere without a disclosure of your affiliation to Barrick Gold Corporation. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:45, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
