Last push for the Biography Assessment Drive[edit]

We've done great work so far on the WikiProject Biography Spring 2007 Assessment Drive, reducing the 135,345 backlog by 38,626 to 96,719 as of March 20, 2007. We have only 6,720 more to go to get below 90,000. That would be outstanding and any extra effort that you can offer in these last few days of the drive (which ends March 24, 2007) would be much appreciated. If you haven't already, you may want to load Outriggr's assessment script in your monobook.js. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on my talk page. -- Jreferee 23:16, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Menthol[edit]

Jirt, thanks for the note. It was not really vandalism, it was just a rather clumsy edit. The removal of the -1- in the name is valid - in ring compounds like menthol the -1- is redundant and is normally omitted. I spotted a couple of things that needed cleaning anyway, so thanks. Actually I have some students doing a poster for next week on menthol, so it was worth checking! Thanks, Walkerma 04:47, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Drive for the Firearms Wikiproject[edit]

Hello Jirt. The Firearms Wikiproject is having an infobox drive. The purpose of this is to ensure that most (if not all) of the articles within our scope have the relevant infoboxes. The start date will be May 28th. If you choose to participate, go to our project page and pick an article under the To-do list's Infobox section or look for firearm articles that need an infobox. Before you start editing an article, please cross it out on the list so that we don't have editor's work clashing. The drive will last for five days. If you are interested, please RSVP to LWF. Thank you, the Firearms Wikiproject. --Seed 2.0 09:19, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV report[edit]

Hi there. In the future, would you please follow the standard format for vandalism reports at WP:AIV? If it's formatted badly, the helperbots don't know to automatically remove reports once the account in question is blocked by an admin, so I just had to remove User:Liamay manually. It's just a little thing, but please keep it in mind in the future. Thanks, Nihiltres(t.l) 15:20, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reply[edit]

Thanks for contacting me. I agree that putting the link in Jingoism is probably unnecessary, but Pakistan Studies is clearly an example of an insidious and propagandistic discipline sanctioned by the state that preaches intolerance towards minorities on the basis of religion and perceived ethnicity (as I can see by reading the references). There are many examples of such articles on other nationalist and ethnocentric ideologies that are extensively referenced on other articles on wikipedia, so I fail to see why special treatment should be awarded to this one. Since Jingoism is a generic phenomenon linking to pakistan studies is probably inappropriate, but this is clearly a highly notable example of state sanctioned religious intolerance propagated in the west by "scholars" (unlike religious intolerance from other Islamic countries, which are of a populist nature). As for Chauvinism, well, maybe you're right about that too. Chauvinism is, again, a generic phenomenon, and not specific to Pakistan Studies. So how about we settle for middle ground? Remove from Jingoism and Chauvinism, but keep in Religious intolerance? The Hindenberg 16:26, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimania in Atlanta![edit]

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 03:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
