License tagging for Image:Saul Anuzis.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Saul Anuzis.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Image licenses[edit]

You've added a few images and tagged them as being released to the public domain by the copyright holder. But the source, http://www.migop.org, explicitly declares copyright on the content of that site. Can you explain this discrepency? I'm removing the public domain license pending some further explanation, as the default is to not use copyrighted material in Wikipedia. olderwiser 15:13, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note that the {{Promotional}} tag may be more appropriate to use for these images. olderwiser 15:22, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:MIGOP LOGO.gif[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you added Image:MIGOP LOGO.gif and tagged it as licensed under GFDL. The web site http://www.migop.org/contact_us.asp indicates that the contents are "Unless otherwise noted, Copyright Michigan Republican Party 1998-2006", so I'm just curious how it is that the logo is licensed under GFDL? And if you do have some position within the party to authorize such a license, I hope you realize that that means the logo can be re-used and modified in just about any way by just about anyone for just about any purpose. olderwiser 01:17, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help on T. John Lesinski. I appreciate it and I am glad to know that other people care about him. tjl82090

Thanks[edit]

Thanks a bunch for your comment on the Presidential Birthdays article - I hadn't checked it in a while and I added a comment suggesting the move to the Birthdate article. Thanks for the heads-up ;) Mrmaroon25 21:46, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re : AfD/List of United States Presidents by birthday[edit]

Thanks for your message. The general consensus in the AfD was for the article's edits to be deleted. However, a redirect to List of United States Presidents by date of birth is fine with me, and I've restored that accordingly. - Mailer Diablo 06:30, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I presume you want a userfied copy of tbe deleted page so that you can work on the other page? - Mailer Diablo 12:47, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Opps, I think I got what you mean now. My apologies for the error. I suppose the current version's history is now correct? - Mailer Diablo 07:25, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Present forlevin.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Present forlevin.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image copyright problem with Image:Andrew_Jackson_CSA_note.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Andrew_Jackson_CSA_note.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

President's kids[edit]

Oh well - but I see the Canadians have escaped. Of course if the US had been put up first rather than last, the Philippinos would no doubt have been ok. Cheers Johnbod 23:45, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your vote to keep on the article on their children, but they have put this one (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Parents of the Prime Ministers of Canada) on AfD as well. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:20, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's with the deletionism against these lists?? It's seriously frustrating to me how these editors are going through trying to destroy information of such obviously encyclopedic content. Nevermind that they don't care about something like List_of_'The_4400'_Minor_Characters. Now they're trying to delete List of United States Presidents by previous occupation as if they honestly don't think it's relevant or noteworthy information what the US President did before being elected.--JayHenry 19:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's another one[edit]

Hi, great comments on the deletion debate for U.S. presidents by occupation. Now here's yet another in the bombardment: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of unsuccessful major-party United States presidential candidates' military service. I don't know how this would be done, but it seems we should somehow get together as many editors as have an interest in this and hammer out some general policy. I think Otto who nominated both of these is an extremely effective advocate for his point of view (which I completely disagree with), partly because he seems to know all the rules inside out and backwards. I'd rather be on Wikipedia to deal with the subjects I'm most interested in and not spend so much time on these discussions (although they have their place and it's not too bad a chore). I hope you'll keep an eye on the AfD discussions every now and then, because you make valuable points. Please take a look at the discussion for military service I've linked to, and thanks for your contributions. Noroton 19:13, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

David Stuart[edit]

I rearranged the pages entitled David Stuart. Your Michigan senator is now David Stuart (politician). I'll leave it to you to update the link on your user page; I think it's rude when others do that to me. Do you think you can add some material to his page? It's a very short stub now, and maybe there is enough new info to flesh out the article a bit. Cheers. Cbdorsett 14:36, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is not much more information than what is in the sources. Jjmillerhistorian 13:30, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Mike Cox 1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mike Cox 1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - NYC JD (make a motion) 05:31, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image was deleted for the reason above. It was a copyrighted image used under a fair use rationale. However, Wikipedia's fair use policy excludes photos of living people used only to show what that person looks like (see counter example number 8). Images tagged as such for more than 7 days are candidates for speedy deletion. WjBscribe 16:01, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society[edit]

While the biographies there are a valuable reference, please don't copy the text from them wholesale into Wikipedia articles. Unlike the Biographical Directory of the U.S. Congress, which is public domain, the Historical Society is not an agency of the federal government and is presumed to have copyright over its materials unless it expressly indicates otherwise. It's OK to use the basic facts from the biographies. Just don't copy the text verbatim (and it's not enough to just substitute a synonym here and there -- copying the structure of ideas also violates copyright protection. olderwiser 20:58, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images and licenses[edit]

Hi, you had uploaded these images Image:William L. Greenly.jpg and Image:Epaphroditus Ransom 1.jpg with the licence {{PD-USGov}}. That license is only for use with images that are produced by the U.S. Federal government. That does not automatically include images of anyone who happened to have been a federal employee at some point in their lives. These images were probably taken from old books and are probably public domain for that reason--but the sources you provided don't give any publication information, so it is impossible to determine for sure. FWIW, when you do upload an image that is public domain by virtue of its age, use {{PD-US}}. Cheers, 20:40, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I notice you've uploaded some images from Find-a-grave and tagged them as PD-US. I don't think the criteria for that tag is applicable to some of the images. Please don't simply scrape images from other websites and label them as Public Domain unless they actually are. olderwiser 17:40, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. I didn't actually campaign to keep this article this time, I wanted to see how it would turn out naturally. I know some people who would've voted to keep it. Thanks for your work on the article. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Governor-crapo-1-.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Shell babelfish 17:40, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Gerhard Williams.jpg[edit]

Fair use rationale for Image:MIGOP_LOGO.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MIGOP_LOGO.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 21:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

John Strong's year of birth[edit]

I have added a photo of John Strong's gravesite to the article and in the caption I noted that his headstone gives his year of birth as 1830, thought the article says 1831. The Political Graveyard item I found also said 1830. I added a picture of the headstone in the article's discussion page. I believe you are the author of the article. Did you find documentation which indicates his year of birth was 1831 or was there a transcription error? Dwight Burdette (talk) 23:51, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Jane Abraham requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The article Kennedy L. Potter has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:NPOL or WP:NBIO.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
