WikiProject Arena Football League Newsletter - November 2008
Articles for the more popular and "star" players of the league need to be expanded, have citations added to them and hopefully we can get some GA's out of them.
All articles on active players and coaches need to be updated with stats, news, and all things important. (Note: For stats it's best to use ArenaFan.)
Also, we NEED to get things done so we can take them off of the to do list.
New tables have been added to each team article for coaches. It is broken down into six columns. Column one is for the name of the head coach. Column two is for the coachs tenure there. Column three is the coaches regular season win/loss record (ONLY while with THAT team). Column four is for the coaches post season win/loss record (ONLY while with THAT team). Column five is for the coaches most recent coaching staff (if the coach is no longer there, list the coaches last coaching staff), with years that the coaching staff members have been there, the term coaching staff ONLY applies to Offensive Coordinator (to be listed as OC), Defensive Coordinator (to be listed as DC), Special Teams Coordinator (to be listed as ST Coordinator), Fullbacks coach (to be listed as FB coach), Linebackers Coach (to be listed as LB coach), Offensive line coach (to be listed as OL coach), Defensive line coach (to be listed as DL), Wide receivers Coach (to be listed as WR coach), Defensive backs Coach (to be listed as DB coach). And coach that coaches multiple positions is to be listed as QB / FB coach, with a / between each position. Also, the list should start with Offensive Coordinator, then Defensive Coordinator. Place line break (<br>) after each coaching staff members name, and between coaching positions (should the column become wider than what looks good). Column six is for notes about the head coach during their tenure with that team only. Lastly, be sure not to make the columns too wide, if the column becomes wider than what looks good, place a line break (<br>) in the sentence/note.
Current Events
On November 22, the Georgia Force will host tryouts at their practice facility in Flowery Beach, Georgia.
Though Chris Vallozzi owns the Florida Firecats, the addition of the Milwaukee Iron in 2009, will in no way affect the Firecats. His older brother Drew, is behind the new Iron franchise.
On October 10, AFL owners approved a nonbinding letter of intent, that called for Los Angeles-based Platinum to invest $100 million into the league. A step that, as it stands, will dramatically alter the financial and managment structure of the two decade old league.
Tiffany Worsham, V.P. of Business Development for af2 has contradicted the claims made by D. J. Daniels, the investor interested in bringing a team back to Macon, Georgia. Claiming that there is "no reason for any optimism." She also went on to say that "serious conversations about the subject ended a few months ago."
Derek Stingley, it was announced, is a candidate for the head coaching position with the Albany Firebirds of af2.
Steve Clary, Jim Guy Tucker two owners of the Arkansas Twisters have decided to forego their shares of the team, as "they both were too busy with their other businesses."
Derek Stingley, has removed himself from the list of candidates for the head coaching position of the af2's Albany Firebirds, as he has "another coaching opportunity closer to his family's home in Baton Rouge, La."
Our goal is to get the number of Stub-Class articles down to 0, in due time. The current article count is listed below, I have placed the forumla that is on the project page that is updated everytime the bot is run and it tallies up our articles and where they are and lists them as seen below, so that no one has to worry about making sure it's updated manually before the newsletter is sent out. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list is provided in the stub-class category of stub articles that need to be improved, and some should be fairly easy.

I know it's been very short, but I think I've got the hang of things now, and I recently gained rollback. So I was wondering if I could take a "final test" to graduate or something, and if I passed it, if I could move up to admin coaching.
Thank you for adopting me! JockBoy(t-c) 03:16, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
There is no real "test" that can be given, no objective boolean evaluation that can be made. I can, however, give you an idea of where you stand. If you're thinking of "moving up to admin coaching", there are certain things that one should be able to demonstrate. One is a general understanding of what our project, Wikipedia, is, and how we mean to go about it ("clue", to generalize). Another is understanding to some degree the group dynamics ("politics") which do have a good effect. Finally, although it's not a direct requirement for editing, a reasonable requirement for admins is that they have at least a basic technical understanding of how the systems we operate ("sysop" ← "system operator") work.
Therefore, here is your test, if you really want one:
The MediaWiki extension FlaggedRevs for implementing flagged revisions is largely ready, but has not been implemented on the English Wikipedia. Why is this the case? Discuss applicable issues from multiple viewpoints and explain them as though to someone unfamiliar with Wikipedia. Keep it as short as possible: no tl;dr-provoking stuff.
By the way, this question is quite difficult. If you don't want to answer, you don't have to. This question is one that I'd give RfA candidates if I didn't know already how stressful the ordeal can seem; if you can answer it well, admin coaching will seem easy. {{Nihiltres|talk|log}} 03:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I think I got it. Let me know if I didn't quite get te actual question and thought it meant something else etc. ...
It is clear that MediaWiki extensions (articles) get to a point of so called "perfection", when editing and tweaking of an article is no longer needed. Therefore, while pages can still be edited, certain pages are more easily preserved using FlaggedRevs, making a certain revision visible to users viewing a FlaggedRevs tagged page.
The reason that Wikipedia cannot in any way impliment this extension for it's mainspace is because Wikipedia articles never really achieve "perfection", unlike MediaWiki articles. This is a result of a changing world, and encyclopedia articles can always be improved, no matter what the case. There is no deadline, after all, and so there is no need to rush our work, instead, we need to focus on the quality of our articles.
Another possible issue with FlaggedRevs is that external images from other Wikimedia projects are not stabilized. They are not universal, and so images from Wikimedia Commons that are carried over to Wikipedia could not have FlaggedRevs used on them because then an image updated on Commons for the better would not change on Wikipedia.
Again, I tried to do as best I could from what I read, but if I misinterpreted the question, just let me know. Thanks! JockBoy(t/c) Sign 01:06, 8 November 2008 (UTC) (I included a copy of this discussion on my talk.)
It's a good answer, but I think it could use expansion. You're free to move on if you like; if you want to expand the answer I'd suggest creating a full-length user subpage essay evaluating FlaggedRevs with respect to the five pillars, as well as the former criteria. {{Nihiltres|talk|log}} 00:21, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thanks a lot for your feedback! I always appreciate any I can get. I honestly thought I had misinterpreted it, so I am glad it turned out fine. If you don't mind, could I move up for now and come back to it after a bit of coaching? JockBoy(t/c) Sign 00:43, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Award
I removed your award from my award's page because I generally don't like to have "signature book" awards. I was expecting you to put it on my talkpage, oh well. Feel free to give me any other barnstars if you want too :) Juthani1tcs 23:06, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I just so happened to do a brief scanning of AN/I just now and I saw your thread about the user above. I see that Xmarks the Spot already gave you a barnstar, but I think I'll give you one too...
Anyway, I really appreciate what you did, there need to be more editors on this site like you. If you ever need help from me or an Rfa nom for ya', just drop me a line and I'll take care of it. Thanks for your work here. JockBoy(t/c) Sign 04:21, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I've always come down hard on vandals, but if someone is willing to try and edit in a positive manner, I'm all for it. I also appreciate the RfA offer. I used to be an admin as User:Lucky 6.9, but I gave back the mop and bucket in good stead and per my own request. Too many attacks by too many egos, I'm afraid. I'd deleted someone's Urban Dictionary dicdef per policy and the guy just came unglued. I'd blocked the user for incivility...but was overturned by another admin, generally a no-no. After threats of RfC's and other assorted nonsense, I'd had enough at that point and I walked away for almost two years. As much as having the tools back in my control would be a help in fighting off the vandals, I'm not sure I'd like to have them back anytime soon. Perhaps in the future. Thanks very, very much for the kind offer and kind words. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:30, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
You are very welcome. JockBoy(t/c) Sign 04:36, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Wow...thank you very much! I am beyond words. Just for fun, I stopped by the user in question's talk page. He hasn't edited in a couple of years, but I fear he may have been in poor health. His veiled insults are still on the talk page, my response on the talk page and the block log shows my original blocks and the unblock. I feel like I just turned over a rock and found something wriggling underneath...but the Barnstar more than makes up for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Hey There
Thanks for saying hi that was really nice and i would love to be adopted by you if you don't mind. The Nice Hollaback Girl (talk) 05:55, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for volunteering to adopt me. However, there are a few tings you should know.
- I am a VERY new user (just signed up last week)
- I don't log in that often (a few times a week at most)
- I know nothing about this site (I repeat, NOTHING)
- and I don't have any clue what an adopter is supposed to do for me.
If it was aimed at me thank you for your comment at the end. Chubbennaitor 21:56, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
g-day!
Why did you delete our page?
ive been workin on that for along time! —Preceding unsigned comment added by CrushedCookie911 (talk • contribs) 06:00, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
I wasn't the one who deleted it. I tagged it, but it wasn't me. I tagged it because it doesn't show why your site is notable enough to be on Wikipedia. It is also written like an advertisement. I would encourage you to read other articles to see the style they are written in as well as read the Wikipedia introduction. An article that exibits good quality is Moe Berg. Hello
Seeing that you are online and since Mulsim Hybrid is taking a "wikibreak" can you tell me how to add a website source on the bottom of an article? thanksThe Nice Hollaback Girl (talk) 06:18, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay. No prob. All you do is copy the URL of the website page you are using (make sure to highlight and copy it, rather than type it, because you need to include the http://). After that, go to the place in the article where you want to place the footnote in the article. Paste the URL in there, then place two ref html tags around it. Here is an example:
<ref>http://google.com/Special/Extraspecial.html</ref>
Here's how it would look in the article:
Google has a special page[1], named Special.
One other thing...
If you want it to show up at the bottom in the references section and there is none, simply type ==References== and then include the text {{reflist}} below it, like this:
==References==
{{reflist}}
:And there you go! JockBoy(t/c) Sign 06:27, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
One more thing, you can adopt her... Im going on semi retirement now. So yeah. Thanks Jock. All the best. M.H.ITrue Romace iS Dead 22:41, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Signpost updated for November 17, 2008 and before.
Because the Signpost hasn't been sent in a while, to save space, I've condensed all seven issues that were not sent into this archive. Only the three issues from November are below.

wow you even have your own lessons and stuff, okay i have a few questions:
I don't know what to write about for my first lesson :(
I've decided to do anti vandal work and am using a program that filters recent changes and sometimes vandals will only make one bad edit and you can click the undo button and it will revert to the previous edit but what happens when a vandal makes more than edit when you revert the first one it goes back to their second one how do you revert a group of vandalisms.
Lastly how do you get your page so pretty and organised like yours?
Um weel i just finished my first test the article is on a fictional drug like you said but it is very short and very badly written.Writing an article is much harder than it looksThe Nice Hollaback Girl (talk) 07:09, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
