I have spent 8 years of my life on Andros Isand, beginning with a visit as a tourist in 1964, when I was 9 years old. I presently live there. I have long wanted to address the comprehensiveness of the Andros Island article, and finally got up the gumption to create a Wikipedia account and tackle it. Itis is is a fascinating place with a rich history, special culture and incredible biodiversity.

I'm a professional writer, and hope that I can contribute to the encyclopedic quality of the page.

Les Standiford

Your new article needs some work, and since you have graciously asked for feedback, I will graciously (I hope) provide some.

1. Formatting: Wikipedia has a Manual of Style. As a writer, you should be aware that any given work needs to conform to its own manual of style in order to maintain consistency. The issues specifically to address in your article are
   1. book titles -- should be in italics, not in "quotes".
   2. Section headings -- should be in "sentence case" (i.e. capitalize the first word, but not other words unless they are proper nouns), and should be short and to the point. So, a section titled "Publication of Short Stories and Articles" should be simply "Short stories and articles".
   3. Article leading paragraph -- the article should start with a sentence such as Les Standiford is ... It should not begin with a "title" such as Les Standiford (Author and Historian) as you have done.
2. Links -- as a hypertext encyclopedia, Wikipedia works best when key terms are linked, and linked correctly.
   1. There is no article entitled Florida International University Creative Writing Program (the lack of an article is why the link appears red). There is, however, an article on the Florida International University, so that would be a better link target. Similarly, there is an article on Frank O'Connor that talks about the Frank O'Connor Prize. This would be a good link to include in your article.
3. References -- Wikipedia articles can never be references for other articles. Citations must reference other reliable sources. While it is appropriate to wikilink to other articles, it is not appropriate to use them as references.

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge!
