I PROD'd one of your articles

Hi,

I prod'd one of your articles Hans Hermann Junge. Now it's been deleted was just cleaning up links to it and I see it's in list of articles you created on your user page so you may want to get rid of the link (or recreate it!) Egg Centric (talk) 00:27, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Also please see User_talk:Courcelles#Do you think this counts as a protested prod? Some advice please in relation to message below Egg Centric (talk) 05:40, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Hans Hermann Junge

Hi not even sure what to do but I kid you not I was looking for info on Hans Hermann Junge husband of Traudl Junge within an hour or so it being 'deleted' from wiki sorry to bother you but have never inquired about a deletion before ... I disagree with the reasoning that the only reason he is important is because he was the deceased husband of Hitler's sercretary. From fragments of info he was a part in some extent of the early entourage of the Nazi Party and therefore has more history than merely being someone's husband. Would be a shame to let even the obscure facts of this part of history slip into a simple honorable mention as a spouse. Hopefully that can be reinstated Kevin B Minneapolis (galwaychase@yahoo.com) thanks in advance —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.28.68.230 (talk) 04:14, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Whteboyz.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Whteboyz.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude2 (talk) 21:00, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Chris Brand requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Sturunner (talk) 04:10, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Regarding this edit, I had a look at the article for Robert Wight and I can't find this fact. I also had a look at List of botanists by author abbreviation and this abbreviation cannot be found there as well. In fact, both of these say that the correction abbreviation for Robert Wight is "Wight". Could you please add the source for this abbreviation, at least to Robert Wight? Intentional disambig linking

Greetings! Just a friendly reminder that when you make an intentional link to a disambig page, as you did here in the "See also" section, you should make the link to the "Foo (disambiguation)" redirect so the page does not show up on our lists of pages needing repairs. Hello! Thank you for inviting me to give my opinion about the use of the template {{Letter-NumberCombination}} in 2-letters combinations pages. As the existing template also categorises in the category Letter-Number combinations, I think it would be better to create a new template (with a copy and paste of exactly the same content, but with a different title and a different location of categorisation). Some people with experience in parser functions, html syntax and template design might also help you to create a generalisation of the template if it was what you had in mind. I hope that this helps! --Nono64 (talk) 20:20, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

people with initials, on dab pages

Hi, I see you've added a lot of people to the PM dab page. I don't think it's normal to include people who just happen not to use their forenames - unless we have evidence that they are referred to as "PM", it's very unlikely that anyone looking for them in the encyclopedia would search for them by initials. We don't list everyone called "John" at John. Hg doesn't list Mr Wells of those initials.

I've just looked again at the page as I left it after some cleanup - and realise that P.M. Dawn isn't a person, anyway - it's a musical ensemble (as you realised). So the only person I should have left is the pseudonymous Swiss writer.

I don't want you to think I'm following you around hassling you, and I'm sorry to waste your work, but I'm going to remove those other people from the dab page because I don't think they belong there. ask other people about this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation. Fair use rationale for File:Ikey-robinson.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ikey-robinson.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. A waste of time.

This article is under the protection of Dreger/WAID's friends and no more reflects an actual account of the book than it would if it came from a pen held in Bailey's hand. There will never be balance, never. An article supported by nothing but an manufactured controversy and arguing that with motivated agents of the author is a waste of time. There never was an interest in a balanced article ,it's just some game to make people believe their input matters. It doesn't , it's old boys. I know this might sound a bit weird, but it would be nice if you didn't create redirects like Advances in High Energy PhysicsHindawi Publishing Corporation. The red link helps editors know an article is missing, and it's what drives article creation (both through the red link and through compilations like WP:JCW). Redirects like Commun. Math. Phys. to Communications in Mathematical Physics are fine and very helpful though. Thanks. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 20:35, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks!

Please contact me before redirecting my page.

Let me exsplain that male to female transsexual is by far the more generic and researched term. You don't have to like it to know that people are going to "look it up." I personally prefer the description. "Trans woman" implies that we are something other than woman. I am not. In any case, the term is the predominant and prevailing term in psychological terms as well as societal understanding. "Trans woman" is a new term, and should be redirected to the male-to-female transsexual, rather than the other way around. I am aware, however, that some people find this term objectionable. Let each stand on it's own, with cross references.

In any case, it is rude to redirect without some discussion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.221.70.13 (talk) 20:18, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Redirect of the Pagre Male-To-Female Transsexual

I am redirecting it back, Andrea. I have taken down the redirect and requested arbitration with the following statement.

"Please consider this request for arbitration of the redirect of the medical term "Male-To-Female Transsexual," to the popular vernacular "Transwoman." There is a subculture of the transgender community that would like to eradicate formal terminology for the sake of a lesser accepted and little acknowledged set of terms. I personally came across the redirect from "Male to Female Transsexual" to "Transwoman" approximately a month ago. I removed the redirect, only to find it redirected again a week later. I dissassembled the redirect. The redirect was re-established with a statement that it shall stand because the content was a mirror of the content in "Transwoman." This is not true. The content was originally established as the category, "Male-To-Female Transsexual," and was in existence as such for quite a while, before it was redirected to "Transwoman." The current redirect is not the original article. Additionally the current text, found after redirect, acknowledges that the broader acceptance is for the term "Male-to-Female Transsexual," or "Transsexual." Does this mean that, because of the desire of a subculture, a redirect from an established and well understood terminology is appropriate? Further, the term "Male-to-Female Transsexual" has been the medical description of a condition identified in the DSM-IV. To redirect this to a popular culture descriptor is inaccurate, misleading, and possibly damaging. I would suggest that this redirect is more an attempt to redirect popular thinking for a group of individuals' preferred term. The popular and medical vernacular has been hijacked to satisfy the uninformed will of a few individuals. I am transsexual. I find the idea that others like me will find this redirect and assume that this is now the medically and socially accepted term highly objectionable. Please, please intercede.

Leona Klajda"

I am a 60 year old woman. I am a Male-to-Female transsexual. It is the term by which I found my identity, and how I describe myself. I think it is also the term by which many, indeed most of us, identify. I find the term "transwoman" objectionable. I don't think that others get to eliminate or "redirect" the terms by which I identify myself because they prefer something else. The manipulation of Wikipedia is easy. The elimination of an opposing thought, especially these days, should never be allowed.

I hope you understand. I have always respected you, and what you have accopmplished. You are certainly a role model, and one which I have emulated. I was so disapointed to see that you were supporting, what I believe to be, a manipulation of our cultural identity.

I do not support the redirect of the term "Transwoman." Many people feel it to be a good descriptor. I just don't think that others get to eliminate my self-identification because they object to it. What's more, this is our culture, our history. A few shouldn't be able to eliminate it with a few key strokes.

"Male-to-Female Transsexual" was a Wiki page that existed before "Transwoman." To state that a redirect is appropriate because the original page was co-opted is illogical.

In the past, (only once or twice-I don't seek out conflict,) when I have engaged other cultural "icons" over a similar issue, I received indignation. I hope that this will not be the case with you. You always seemed to be someone who was levelheaded, likeable and down to earth. Bless you for taking a side, and most times a good one!

Redirects from Male-to-Female Transsexual

As you have indicated, "Male-to-Female Transsexual" to "Trans Woman" was a redirect. The original article was a arbitrarily redirected from a predominantly accepted term. Additionally, it is a term which is a clinical diagnosis. Trans Woman is not. My undoing the original redirect is being deflected, despite the articles' own acknowledgement that the original term is predominant.

This is illogical. The current redirect is unjustified on several levels. I will reconstruct a page, but I will need you to stop redirecting and erasing it. I am securing the necessary permissions. Please assist me, rather than interfering with the process. By erasing the page, you are interfering with the Wikipedia process of contribution and addition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeonaHelen (talkcontribs) 01:07, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for attempting to resolve this in a constructive manner. I apologize for assuming that you were responsible for the redirects. I really think that redirecting to "Transsexual" would be an acceptable interim solution, but I don't understand why the opinion of a few outweigh fact. The term "Male-to-Female Transsexual" has weight, scope, and history that "Transwoman" does not. To me, the redirect is ludicrous. If majority rule is the deciding factor, we would have all manner of irrationality and nonsense here (consider what some political fringe groups would do with the term "abortion.") How might I arbitrate this? I would be most interested in creating a factual article with references and footnotes, but if it can be eliminated by the whim of someone who disagrees, what's the point? Thank you again. You gave me some direction and assistance, and it is appreciated. If I was apparently rude or argumentative, I was wrong. I assumed that you supported this redirect, but I believe that you truly want to assist in making a better product. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeonaHelen (talkcontribs) 02:47, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Magnus Hirschfeld

Hi Jokestress - James Cantor has commented to me that you showed up at this article having never edited it prior to him editing there and that he is concerned about hounding. Could I suggest you avoid interaction in such ways if at all possible, there are plenty of articles without editing articles J Cantor has just edited. I hope you guys can just cease to interact as that would be better than the more extreme administration, such as an official interaction ban or a topic ban, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 15:50, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

That they both visited the first link in the body of Androphilia_and_gynephilia isn't unexpected, given how much has been going on there. That they are both mentioned by name in the same articles, e.g. autoandrophilia and autogynephilia shows that they are likely going to be editing the same articles for the foreseeable future.
Mentioning an asymmetric topic ban would just encourage Cantor to provoke Jokestress and make more false accusations in hopes that people will again act without exploring the facts. Mentioning an interaction ban would just lead to a "land rush," with articles "owned" by whoever edited first.
If I seem unsympathetic, it is because James Cantor has accused or threatened to accuse me also of BLP and hounding, all within the past 24 hours. Off2riorob, notes like this one show him that he can get what he wants by making accusations, and that substantiating those accusations is necessary.
Now, can we give the baseless accusations a rest? BitterGrey (talk) 17:03, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jokestress! I'm currently having some difficulty with another set of single purpose editor IPs on Orny Adams -- I've been trying to edit a section to remove some material that seems uncited and self-promotional in nature, but have repeatedly been reverted by two such accounts. I'm a casual Wikipedia user, and am not sure how to respond (other than knowing to talk to a more experienced editor) -- would you mind taking a look? Much appreciated! 24.199.68.93 (talk) 06:23, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Baclanova and Madonna

Yeah, somebody identifying himself as "Blinkersnet" just weighed in with a stern admonishment not to say anything contrary to rules or whatever. The funny part is, if someone happens to know what Madonna looks like and beholds that picture, they'd have to get the point immediately. I saw "The Man Who Laughs" on a full-sized movie screen at the Museum of Modern Art and a wave of shock and confusion went through the audience when Madonna suddenly turned up in a 1928 movie. Baclanova doesn't look so much like Madonna in her other films for reasons about which I cannot even begin to conjecture (she's the leading lady in Tod Browning's "Freaks") but she IS Madonna in "The Man Who Laughs," as though Madonna time traveled back to the beginning of the sound era as a prank. Oddly, it didn't occur to me that anyone would object if they could see the photo itself but many people somehow think that nothing remotely fun or interesting should be allowed into any encyclopedia. I have the disadvantage of having owned a set of the 1910 Brittanica, universally hailed as the single best year for any encyclopedia, and liveliness and a sense fun and discovery runs throughout it. Anyway, I'm certainly not going to pursue this any further, I'll let Blinkersnit savor the deletion of all traces of it, but I want you to know that I do appreciate your advice. Does your name and the Joker character's origin have anything to do with your catching this so quickly, presumably at "The Man Who Laughs" page? Upsmiler (talk) 20:18, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Baclanova and Madonna

Thanks, Jokestress! Someone's already weighed in quite sternly, though, and this is a battle I'm going to definitely skip since I spent no time at all on it to begin with. It's odd, really, that I figured that if someone could see the photograph, the last thing they'd want to do is delete it, but of course I should've known better. Upsmiler (talk) 20:29, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

More Baclanova

It just occurred to me, maybe Madonna did time travel back, which would certainly explain why Baclanova looks starkly different in that movie from any of the others. Upsmiler (talk) 20:35, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Er.

Can you explain this edit? Is it simply that you saw that the page Er. once redirected to the page Moed so you assumed Er. is an abbreviation for Moed? If so, that was quite a leap. Or do you actually know it to be an abbreviation of Moed? (Personally, I've never seen it. I have, on the other hand, seen it as an abbreviation for Eruvin, which is my assumption for why the redirect pointed to that page.) I'll await your reply (here is fine) before fixing the page ER, on the chance that you actually knew what you were doing.—msh210 23:36, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing it yourself.—msh210 17:36, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Madonna and Baclanova

Intrigued by the Username "Jokestress," which is quite a word when you look at it, I looked you up and I have to leave a note saying how comprehensively impressed I am. I especially liked your comments about Wikipedia becoming more difficult to use (I suspect that half of those objecting to every little thing are literally children in their early teens or possibly even younger--weirdly, this is one place where it's probably pretty easy to abruptly find oneself in an earnest argument with an eight-year-old without realizing it). Didn't go through your information quite closely enough to pick up on whether or not you do stand-up but I'm a bit of a live comedy aficionado myself and if you do and ever play here in Manhattan, please let me know and I'll make a point of seeing you. A good venue that I'll recommend is "Karma" down on 1st Avenue in the East Village. I saw Janeane Garofalo there a couple of weeks ago and it's a fine but (so far) relatively little known place. The comedy show's every two weeks, on the second and fourth Saturday nights, the drinks are half-price until 8pm, which is showtime, and the ambiance and level of comedy are superb; there are usually three or four comics who've had their own Comedy Central specials, for what that's worth. Addition to Gender Identity Disorder in Childhood article

Hi Jokestress,

I am going to add some additional information to the GIDC article. I will not be removing existing information. I am new to wiki editing and want to make sure that the links and references I create are adequate. Do you recommend using the sandbox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jake Pyne (talkcontribs) 16:41, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Cooks Source

Hi -- I went back and reviewed the sources that I had removed while cleaning up the article. My rationale for each of the removals was as follows:

  • "Chuck Norris facts"/Dallas Observer source: The statement was confusing and didn't appear to accurately report what was in the source, and what was in the source seemed quite trivial. It could be used to cite that the CS Facebook page received several negative comments (which is still stated elsewhere in the article).
  • "Second defiant Facebook response, prompted a debate"/Toronto Sun source: The source just says there was a FB response, nothing about a debate. I didn't want to mention just the response without mentioning that it probably wasn't written by Griggs, and it really didn't seem worth mentioning at all when the one source there refers to CS as "Cook Magazine" and "Cooks Magazine" (doesn't really scream reliability, you know?).
  • "Several reporters felt the statement fell short of being a sincere apology."/PC Mag source: This source doesn't even support that a single reporter questioned the sincerity of the apology, let alone "several."
  • "Griggs' final statement has been preserved in several commentaries." / TechDirt source: The statement and the source seemed superfluous and redundant to what was already in the article.

My motivation for all of these was removing the statements ostensibly supported by the sources; I don't have any significant objections to the sources themselves, or including them as citations for statements that the sources do support. So if you want to add them back in a way that does that, I expect I'd have no objection. Theoldsparkle (talk) 20:20, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

I appreciate the welcome. It will probably take me two years to work through all the introductory material! Seriously, I wonder if this is not part of the reason so few new editors join, and even fewer stick around - I'm making an effort to learn all these 'policies' which a really tactical weapons and, well, goodness. Anyway, I'll stick with it and it can only get better than my rocky start. Thanks, again!Pauci leones (talk) 12:09, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi,

would you agree to remove the {{COI}} from the article Walter De Brouwer? The last activity there seems 6 months ago and you have cleaned it up thoroughly, I see no ongoing issues with the article.

Conflict

You are right. I didn't think of that. Of course, I would not try not to be biased (we all are though). I will do as you suggest and get another id. In general, I realize that this is an encyclopedia, and I would always see both sides. Even with experts and historians, they will present a definite point of view. That is what people do. For example, try to get someone in England to say the Japanese soldiers were heroes in WW2. I doubt you will find many takers. Try asking someone in Japan, and you might get a different response. You just need to get the same article and look at it in the other languages, and see that it is all a point of view. It has to be. OccupyLink (talk) 22:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Edits to Katehi page

I have provided two sources to clarify the number of members in the faculty association (110) and what the faculty association is and sources as cited in the edits I submitted Please add my edits with the following sources cited: http://dateline.ucdavis.edu/dl_detail.php?id=13761, http://facts.ucdavis.edu/employee_population_by_fund_source.lasso — Preceding unsigned comment added by Belin123 (talkcontribs) 23:40, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Other orgs and Katehi

Linda Bisson, the chair of the Academic Senate, which is the largest faculty group comprising more than 1,500 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, called for a faculty investigation, but she believes most faculty want Katehi to stay in her post. Bratsburg

What do I need to do to get the birth name corrected on Wikipedia for my great-uncle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tovisbratsburg (talkcontribs) 05:12, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, my family is still pretty adament that the spelling is Bratsburg. Paul Morgan (Harry's son) wants to talk with me, I am going to try to get some information from him about Family history so I can document it and pass it down to my future children and all of the family. What type of citation or sources could I get or use to finally get his birth name in here final. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tovisbratsburg (talkcontribs) 15:32, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

On a family tree commissioned by Harry, it says the family name was Americanized to Bratsburg from Bratsberg in what we think was 1907 when they came here from the old country. It says that Bratsberg was and is a village in Norway. I'll try to get more information and see what paper says Bratsburg.

Here is what the New York Times emailed me:

Thank you for your inquiry. Charles Morgan, his son, told me to use Bratsburg. He said his own papers said Bratsburg. Harry, he said, was indifferent to the spelling, so he may have said e or u at different times, but I went with the family's recommendation. I did not see a birth certificate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tovisbratsburg (talkcontribs) 00:43, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Beethoven's Only Beloved

Dear Andrea

I would like to raise your attention to my book "Beethoven's Only Beloved: Josephine!" which is in fact based on a screenplay (film script). It was only when the likes of Spielberg, Jackson and several dozen others were not interested that I wrote the story (no fiction!) as a book, self-published. I wonder if you are interested in the topic, as it is something I consider very much a "feminist" one (and very critical of misogynists like Solomon etc.).
