License tagging for File:Plymouth Marine Laboratory logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:Plymouth Marine Laboratory logo.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Thanks for the ref for Torquay. We had contradictory pronunciations for it elsewhere in wikipedia. kwami (talk) 13:26, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Move protection

Because we have a long history with the vandal that does these page moves. Unless the pages are moveprotected, he returns to them over and over again. He has proven this pattern of behavior enough times that I don't think we need to wait for him to move every page twice. Also, these targets are invariably well-established articles where a change of the article title would be exceedingly unlikely -- Utopia is a good example. Orphaned non-free media (File:Flag of Leicester.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Flag of Leicester.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Nominator's rationale: Rename. More accurate name, and consistent with other "civil parishes in" categories. "Parish" has different meanings in different localities. All categories should be clear if they contain civil (or geographical) parishes or church parishes. Note that this discussion of the same question (closed to divide the question) resulted in 5 Support rename votes, 1 Oppose vote, and 2 that abstained on most categories. I have looked at much more than these pages listed and the categories do all reflect civil parishes.--Carlaude (talk) 03:00, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Nazi Zombies

There were reasons why the article was made a redirect before, and those reasons still apply now. First and foremost, the article violates WP:GAMEGUIDE and WP:GAMECRUFT, not to mention it lacked any reliable and verifiable sources. NZ is a mode, not a separate game, so anything of importance about it should be in the Call of Duty: World at War article. Then there is the notability issue, which likewise discourages allowing NZ as a separate article. Reading through what was there, it was nothing more than original research and fan-collected material (description of how the NZ level resembled another multiplayer level, lists of playable weapons, etc.). The section on NZ in the CoD:WaW article can be expanded with some of what was there, but Wikipedia isn't the Call of Duty Wiki or a general game guide. -- Commdor {Talk} 19:39, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, thanks. The article's not supposed to get too detailed, so it's better to tell the storyline, rather than individual events that happen several times in the game e.g. killing soldiers, clearing out MG bunkers etc, as well as the weapons included. Replaceable fair use Image:St George Wharf Tower, artist's rendition.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:St George Wharf Tower, artist's rendition.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 12:14, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Would you please comment at Talk:Drake Circus. I recognize your right to over-ride my "hangon" notice, but I would appreciate your clarifying your meaning at the Talk page. Thanks, doncram (talk) 21:59, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Okay, but http://www.myvillage.com/plymouth/places/22721-plymouth-city-museum-and-art-gallery/ isn't a reliable source. Jolly Ω Janner 22:23, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for commenting. And, I'll try using this website which appears to be official, about the museum and gallery being located there. Offhand, i think a couple uses like this establishes that Drake Circus is a location not always meaning the shopping center. But we'll see. I'd welcome other comments on the draft in progress, at any time. Thanks again. doncram (talk) 00:58, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Could you help me understand your reverts of the talk page contributions of 81.132.107.66 (talk · contribs), especially as regarding to Talk:Drake Circus Shopping Centre? Thank you, Kralizec! (talk) 02:30, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

The user wastes our time by posting information that attack the shopping centre or users. I'm gonna do myself a massive favour by removing the article off my watchlist and not getting involved. I'm not going to waste my time for a troll. Jolly Ω Janner 16:18, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, please excuse any problems I might have caused in regards to that user on the article about February snowfall in the UK by asking whether or not 10 inches of snowfall in itself is notable. I have no clue what a "Muhammad" is or is supposed to mean. I wonder if it is meant as a personal attack on me. Spinach Monster (talk) 22:36, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Well I don't know either; that's why I asked him. At first I didn't think that he was calling the user Muhamad, rather that I thought it was some kind of noun refering to a tactic of trolling etc. Jolly Ω Janner 22:42, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

While I'm Here

I'm wondering what you thought about the Confirmations of Barack Obama's Cabinet article. I've worked hard on it and i'd be happy to get someone else's two cents, positive or negative. Spinach Monster (talk) 03:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

The pictures take up too much space. I don't think you need a massive table for everyone who voted. Surely there must be another way or just not have it at all. I don't think each area needs their own section e.g. secretary for energy. Jolly Ω Janner 16:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you put a speedy deletion tag on Drake circus (lowercase c). Why did you tag it for Speedy Deletion? The redirect is acceptable per Wikipedia:Redirects#Spellings, misspellings, tenses and capitalisations. And it just could be redirected to to the Drake Circus disambiguation page. Thanks for your time.(please reply here)67.162.250.53 (talk) 06:14, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm concerned that it might be edited i.e. changed to redirecting to something else or someone might start developing their own article on it. We don't need it as Wikipedia's software mean that you don't need capital letters. For example, type (or copy and paste) in drake circus shopping centre (all lower-case) and it will take you to Drake Circus Shopping Centre without any redirects necessary. Jolly Ω Janner 11:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

See also

Hi. I saw where you reverted my additions to the see also section. My understanding of see also sections is that they exist in order to direct interested readers to areas that tangently related. Do you think you could restore my additions, or explain why you feel they are inappropriate, if that is the case? Thanks.Die4Dixie (talk) 22:11, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

The snowfall isn't connected to global warming etc. Global warming can't affect the weather just general trends in temperature. By having those links in the see also section Wikipedia is insinuating that global warming had something to do with the event, which is original research and POV. Jolly Ω Janner 22:29, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I had reverted you and left a comment at the talk page. Feel free to change it back to your version and reflect it on the talkpage. Thanks.Die4Dixie (talk) 22:44, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Project Norfolk & Suffolk

Hi

Thanks for your offer of help.

I need you to understand that my aim is to learn as much as I can about the processes involved and so as long as you don't mind me asking questions a lot then I would really appreciate your help on this.

I lack knowledge of the way certain tasks are performed in Wikiworld, such as the collection of info from tags, although my training is in systems analysis, so I pick things up (sometimes lol) fairly quickly.

I would like to start by spending a couple of days looking over your Devon page and then get back to you over next two days if thats ok ?

Thanks again--Chaosdruid (talk) 03:52, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Okay. I think that when I made Devon's assessment page I just copy and pastied the one used for WPCITIES and changed the word "cities" to "Devon" for everything. Jolly Ω Janner 12:32, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

I notice that you tagged the page File:Drake-circus-1.jpg for speedy deletion with the reason "image which has been tagged and the uploader notified for more than 7 days as showing no evidence that the copyright holder has released it under the license indicated by the uploader". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because the image has not been tagged for seven days, and in any case the uploader claims to be the copyright holder and does not need to provide further evidence of that. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:FFD process. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 13:44, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I added section for them at files for discussion, but they appear to have already been deleted. Jolly Ω Janner 15:09, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, you added the listings incorrectly. It looks like you put in the File: prefix into the nomination template by mistake. I've fixed the listings. Stifle (talk) 15:24, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Cheers. I thought it was a bit odd that it wasn't showing up on my watchlist etc, but I know that deletion logs have a bit of a backlog in the server before they appear. Jolly Ω Janner 15:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Naming Conventions

Hi there!

You recently commented on a [image candidate] of mine and had something to say about capitalization in the filename. It has been my personal convention to name files with only an initial capital letter. I am still new to Commons, so if there is a different standard convention I ought to use, I would appreciate your pointing me in the correct direction to read about the issue. Thanks! -- Notyourbroom (talk) 16:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

There isn't any standard about it. This is the first time I have commented on a quality image candidate. I don't think it's the sort of thing that would make it fails its nomination, but I just wanted to point it out. Jolly Ω Janner 16:26, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

COD WOW plot

Ok, I missed that part of the GA review, but even before I got there, I would have agreed that the plot as it was, even though it mimics the COD4 plot section, was on the repetitive and overly detailed side. Part of it here may be the fact that this is still historically accurate, and thus the three separate characters' missions do not affect each other to any degree, unlike in COD4 where there is a much stronger connection to the story parts and describing it in order makes the story cohesive. For CODWOW, it's convoluted when you present it as such even though they follow the appropriate events in order. But feel free to change it back if you feel it is better that way. --MASEM 21:18, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Dorset

Just a quick note to say thanks for joining WikiProject Dorset. It some ways it's actually very beneficial to have someone not from Dorset, to give an un-biased and very honest viewpoint of Dorset articles. Glad to have you onboard! MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 13:51, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Glad to be aboard! ;) By the way, did you copy and paste the info from WPDevon? Jolly Ω Janner 13:52, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the award, my first! I used WPDevon as a foundation, because they are similar type projects, to set up Dorset quickly and easily. Some odd sections, because of the wording and links I did copy, but as the project grows we will of course differentiate from WPDevon (although it is a very good project). MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 14:25, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
I copied most of WPDevon's assessment from WPCITIES I think, along with bits from other places. Jolly Ω Janner 14:49, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Interview, snow

Hi, I've removed your mentioning of the interview and costs involved in preparation for the snow, since it's not associated with the section - the section is about the reaction of the public, not about how badly UK was prepared for the event. Also, I am not sure whether the source was okay. I don't mind putting it somewhere else in the article. I hope you don't mind. Cheers BeŻet (talk) 21:00, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

I think the name "reaction" is ambiguous then. Surely the Mayor of London's reaction to the incident is notable? Jolly Ω Janner 21:20, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Topsham Town

According to the Topsham Town web site Topsham is a town? http://www.topsham.org/ Do you have a reference that says otherwise?

Devon County Council website says it's part of Exeter local authority, which is a city. You can't have a town within a city. Jolly Ω Janner 22:47, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Well... what you say may well be true, I don't know but the reference doesn't actually say that Topsham isn't a town does it? That is merely your interpretation. I lived there for many years and it was always considered a town and it's own web site calls it a town. TeapotgeorgeTalk 23:50, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm not expert. If you would like to get further information you could ask at WP:UKGEO. Jolly Ω Janner 23:57, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't think "town" has a technical definition in English local government. The title of "city" is jealously guarded of course, and there are terms like "borough" that only have a technical meaning, or "district" that have both a technical and a more general meaning. But so far as I know "town" has never been an official title, so if anywhere likes to describe itself as a town, and can persuade other people to do so, it probably can (I believe the situation is different in the US, at least in some states). Topsham certainly does come into this category; the local attitude could be summed up as "Fog at Countess Wear - Exeter isolated". seglea (talk) 20:25, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Er, see the discussion in our excellent Town page, which says roughly what I've said above but makes it all much clearer. Very useful source, Wikipedia, I must remember to look things up in it... seglea (talk) 20:32, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Wikipedia is an unreliable source. The section for the UK on the town article has no references from other sources. Jolly Ω Janner 20:42, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
True enough, both in the general and the specific. It might be quite hard to source the fact that "town" has no formal definition, though; it smacks of proving a negative. seglea (talk) 01:10, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Some of the members of today's Cornish Carol Choir are in fact descendants of the original Cornish gold miners. The city holds St Piran's Day celebrations every year, which along with carol singing, includes a flag raising ceremony, games involving the Cornish pasty, and Cornish wrestling competitions.[1]" the California Grass Valley seems more likely than Virginia.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 11:13, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks for pointing that out. I don't know why it said Virginia in the first place. I have now changed it back and added wikilinks. Jolly Ω Janner 16:30, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
    • 'Virginia' must have been a mistake by the original writer: thanks for sorting it out.----Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 20:28, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

BTW

This should really be a part (minor) of the Devon stuff by the look of it. I'll look to get some more images when I can. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 17:43, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I'll maybe try & find something better than the "legendarydartmoor" links too....:) --Herby talk thyme 17:50, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I was also searching for some decent references for it. Can't find much in the way off books on Google search. I want to keep the Devon article in good nic. Is there any reason why you told me about that? Seems kind of random as I've never edited the article. Jolly Ω Janner 18:09, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
You marked this (on watchlist) & I'd just edited the other one... Some neural connections are more lateral than others :). On the subject of Devon this should be available soon. It would be good to get Devon to a higher profile. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 18:23, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Earth Hour 2009 vandalism

Is it possible to ban 71.244.177.21 for constant vandalism to earth hour 2009? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Messiisking (talkcontribs) 23:52, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

IP addresses can't be "banned" (permenant block). 71.244.177.21 might receive a 24-hour block if the address continues to vandalise after being warned about it sufficeintly. I cannot apply the block as I do not have sysop status. Jolly Ω Janner 00:18, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

You edited this page stating

"(Corrected Great Britain (no where in UK has speeds over 200km/h))"

The UK runs domestic services at speeds of 201km/h, and the eurostar can run at 300km/h, on high speed 1, please revert to the old version. (2009-03-30T15:56:12) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jibjohn19 (talkcontribs) 09:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that. They appear to have re-routed the the Eurostar's track now. Just out of interest, how do you decide which tracks to include i.e the tracks under 200 km/h, because obviously not all of them are on the map. How do you decide which ones to include and which ones not to include? Jolly Ω Janner 15:40, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Good articles

Teach me how to write GAs? PirateSmackKArrrr! 17:16, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Chose an article that you know some knowledge about or you are passionate about it. This will help you to gather your own information about it. Then add inline citations to like every sentence from reliable sources, excluding all sentences in the lead and maybe the infobox. Then nominate it at WP:GAC. Jolly Ω Janner 17:23, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
If you chose an article then let me know. I'll read through it etc and give you some pointers on it. Jolly Ω Janner 17:24, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
How abt we make Vampire into a GA? PirateSmackKArrrr! 18:00, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Vampie has already been a GA. It's currently a featured article, which is like a level up from GA. After an article is promoted to "FA status", it is no longer classed as a GA, but rather as a FA. It is still none-the-less a "good" article. How about Devon? You ever been there? Jolly Ω Janner 18:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
OK PirateSmackKArrrr! 18:12, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

I added one reference how cool is that? PirateSmackKArrrr! 18:29, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

By ED stadards, that's fairly cool. Unforunately it's not from a reliable source, so it is useless in GA criteria. You might also want to use a javascript tool located somewhere in the gadgets for adding references more easily. Jolly Ω Janner 18:39, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Lol dude to be a sysop you've got to be into vandalism and reverting vandals, page deletions, licking sysops' asses etc. I'm more into improving the encyclopedia the good old fashioned way by writing and uploading pics. So, as you can see, by giving me such tools to block people and delete pages, it would be of no use to the encyclopedia as I'd rarely use it. Not to mention that some assholes would probably oppose me for being too unpexperienced etc... and if I'm really unlucky, you-know-what may pop-up in the conversation and could even threat my current status. Ciudad Victoria

It is not as dry as you think it is. Look at some more data. That chart is wrong. It should be replaced.--Brout8 (talk) 23:16, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I realise that the data for the chart isn't very reliable as it's only be studied for a few years, but I couldn't find any other reliable data. What data are you basing your assumptions on? It would be very useful to have this data. Look at Semi-arid climate and you'll see that the examples on that page actualy get more rainfall than Ciudad Victoria. I admit that Ciudad Victoria does have a slight wet/dry season effect and that's why I said it could "possibly" be classed as "subtropical" and a note on occasional hurricanes. I'm very sure that hurricanes do affect Ciudad Victoria every now and then. Jolly Ω Janner 12:56, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

You are correct. It is a semi-arid climate. However, it is not because of the amount of rainfall. It is a BWh, and not Aw, only because the winter temperature is 1.5 and 1 respective °C below the treshold for tropical climates in January and December. Otherwise it would easily be an Aw savanna climate. My mistake.
I get my weather data from Forca online. --Brout8 (talk) 01:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Good job on the map for flt 447

Just wanted to compliment you on a good job for the map work for the flt that is missing. Thanks for your work! --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:54, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

It was a joy to create it and receive comments for improvement. I'm amazed at how many articles across the Wimikeda are using it! Jolly Ω Janner 21:56, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Map

Sorry, I have removed your map from the AF447 article. The BBC map you cited states clearly that the last transmission was received from an unknown location, whereas your map puts a red dot along the flight path and labels it "Unknown Location". There shouldn't be a dot or any indication of where the flight went down, because there is no citation for that data. Thanks - Tempshill (talk) 22:52, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, another recommendation in case you want to revise it: More data would be communicated if the label stated that the last transmission was received at an unknown location, rather than just having the text "Unknown Location", which I found confusing. Sorry to bother you. Regards - Tempshill (talk) 22:54, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Done thank you very much! Jolly Ω Janner 23:23, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Oops, got this confused with other thread and didn't realise the first thing you said... I'll remove the dot now. Jolly Ω Janner 23:24, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello. This is a response to the message you send me regarding the edits I have made to the current events for June 8 of this year. That date has not yet occurred, therefore, it should not be up on the current events list for June of this year. Thank you for your concern. --Radiokid1010 (talk) 21:24, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

I believe it will be helpfull to have the formatting there, because it will help users who are unfamilier with the process to post current events. Jolly Ω Janner 21:44, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

DYK credits

Please do not add spam in the DYK credit links. It could cause DYK to not be updated, and is disruptive in general. Shubinator (talk) 00:59, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that. When I put "SPAM" in the edit summary, I was refering to the process of DYKbot SPAMing your talk page anyway, regardless of my extra comments. I thought it would be a nice change for users to feel loved. Jolly Ω Janner 01:03, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Adding an extra parameter to the template does not add a comment to the credits. However, it could cause the updating bot to crash. Shubinator (talk) 01:06, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I do appologise. What does the extra parameter do? Jolly Ω Janner 01:08, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Nothing. Thanks for helping fill the queues by the way. Shubinator (talk) 02:09, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

DYK credits redux

Just FYI, in this update you accidentally listed me for nom credit, but I actually had nothing to do with that article (and the entry at T:TDYK didn't have me listed for credit). It's probably just a mix-up from adding a bunch of articles at once, and it's certainly not a huge deal, just thought I should let you know so you can watch out for similar mistakes in the future. Also, hopefully there wasn't anyone else who was supposed to get nom credit in that update but accidentally got replaced by me. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:41, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I pressumed that you provided the hook "that Mike Reid was a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals before becoming a country music singer and releasing the single "Walk on Faith"?" and was worthy of some credit. Jolly Ω Janner 18:05, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I understand. I don't really mind not getting credit for changing hooks, since I didn't work on the article itself (and cleaning up hooks is just my job as a DYK reviewer); but it's at least good to know the credit wasn't an editing mistake. Best, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 18:08, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
