Editing Q

Apologies for reaching out this way, but I know you were involved in editing/moderating an earlier controversy on my page (Peter Gleick). I've just found out that a top staff member of the Heartland Institute has made major edits to my page in the section about a controversy with Heartland 10 years ago. Someone removed his edits, but he has reposted them. He is not an unbiased observer -- indeed, he is a deeply biased one, and I consider his edits to be vandalism, misleading, and misrepresenting what happened. He is cherrypicking sources and quotes to reframe that event in a what I consider a dishonest way and I wonder if there is some recourse an independent editor might offer, to revert to the previous version. Thank you for your consideration. PGleick (talk) 22:04, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Climate Change area

You wrote " I mostly keep well away from the topic of climate change but do keep an eye on the biographies of some participants." How wise you are! What a pity that area has become such a cess-pit of (IMO) anti-science! Cheers, --Pete Tillman (talk) 23:15, 25 September 2021 (UTC) Still permanently banned from editing in that area, 6 or 7 years on! A good way to avoid wasting time there -- if a bit drastic. The Wiki Climate Overlords are folks whose minds are made up!

License tagging for File:Michaela Community School Buildings January 2022.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Michaela Community School Buildings January 2022.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:26, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Translation

Hello, Thank you for your message. The edit was based on a phrase in the lead which uses the word "translate"; I see now that it does not mean translation of texts so have amended the WP.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 14:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Yo. Regarding this reversion [1]: do you agree that "opposing changes" is kinda meaningless, since a change could be either for the better, or for the worse? So what is the utility of this sentence, at all? Equinox 14:16, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

I think that "campaigns against transgender rights" is inaccurate and not supported by the source given. It is true that the meaning of "campaigns against changes to transgender rights" is not immediately obvious in that sentence on its own, but the meaning is clarified by paragraph 2 of the lead so that doesn't greatly worry me. But I would be happy with "campaigns against extensions to transgender rights", or indeed just deleting the whole phrase. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 14:53, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Blackfriars

My concert is the accuracy of the following statement:

“ Blackfriars Hall is a Permanent Private Hall, meaning that it is owned and governed by an outside institution (in this case, the English Province of the Order of Preachers) and not by its fellows .”

The essential difference between PPH and college in Oxford is the level of endowments. I don’t know what the current threshold is. In my student days it was £5M.

The government of colleges is varied. The Queen, for example, through the Patronage Secretary of the PM appoints the head of house in Christ Church. 92.40.173.226 (talk) 19:29, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

I have no idea what point you are trying to make here, and your supposed "essential point" is complete nonsense. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 23:21, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

File:Board describing visit by Oxford University Society of Change Ringers to Iffley Church.jpg

Hello! Given that you uploaded File:Board describing visit by Oxford University Society of Change Ringers to Iffley Church.jpg, I assume that you wish to make it available under a free license? You specified that the subject of the picture is in the public domain, but you did not specify that the photograph is freely available. If you wish to release it into the public domain, please just tag it with {{CC0}}. Of course, you are more than welcome to choose a different license, or to request that the file be deleted. Thank you so much! HouseBlastertalk 16:55, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

The current version isn't mine but was uploaded by Pointillist. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 17:07, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Hello again! Because Pointillist created a derivative work of the image you uploaded, you need to specify a license so that he can specify a compatible license. HouseBlastertalk 00:23, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Frankly I find image licensing issues on Wiki so utterly ridiculous and thoroughly tedious that I am not sure I can be bothered. But have a nice day. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 05:53, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Commons deletion request

You commented at Commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/File:St-Peters_College_Oxford_Coat_Of_Arms.svg, did you see Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:St-Peters College Oxford Coat Of Arms.png? TSventon (talk) 14:07, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. I'm less concerned about that deletion attempt that the main one, and the similar behaviour at Commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Kellogg_College_Oxford_Coat_Of_Arms.svg. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 16:21, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Your help with NPOV updates and changes

Hi Jonathan. I'd appreciate your help in making some necessary changes to the Legatum Institute article. I noticed your expertise on subjects relating to the UK as well as your active contributions to Wikipedia, including to the entry for Matthew Goodwin, a Legatum Institute Fellow. My pending edit request on the article's Talk page outlines the unresolved NPOV issues and other modifications that need to be made. Thank you for your time and your help JH at LI (talk) 16:23, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Kirchhoff Circuit Laws

@Jonathan A Jones: Junction Law is the common name in which it is also called right? Then what is the issue? I don’t understand why my edit got reverted. I am talking about edit revision based on Kirchhoff's circuit laws. Please use my talk page for reply. 2001:8F8:1825:88AC:D0F7:524D:A2AC:7DFF (talk) 12:55, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

The article says "Kirchhoff's current law ... also called Kirchhoff's first law, Kirchhoff's point rule, or Kirchhoff's junction rule (or nodal rule)". That's five supposedly commn names, which is already two or three too many. Adding a sixth "common name" which is just a combination of the others is utterly pointless.
