gem car links[edit]

Why doe you allow nevservice.biz to get a link they violate external link guidelines —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.236.33.190 (talk) 23:10, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're quite right. I have removed both existing spam links. By the way, you should place your messages at the bottom of talk pages, as that is where editors will look for them. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 00:33, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Ray) regarding jukebox mechanism[edit]

Advice on how to introduce free-hand drawings so as to explain the functions of a jukebox. I have had a number of drawings deleted from my input, would it be possible to have an index page? It is without doubt that diagrams of function will draw members attention. [IMG]http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t171/taylorraymond/scan0004-1.jpg[/IMG] Example..78.149.71.17 (talk) 00:03, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the message you recently received from Escape Orbit that this whole subject is really more suitable for wikiHow, as it is more in the nature of a technical manual than a Wikipedia article. (Maybe I should have suggested this in the first place, but I didn't realise how technical it was going to be.)
You cannot have an 'index page', as Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a website. (It doesn't have 'members' either, just editors and readers.)
If you want to use your own diagrams you will have to upload them to Wikipedia Commons [1] first and declare that you own the copyright. You cannot place a link to any diagram or picture that is on another site (like photobucket) into an article, as you have been doing. If you do this, they will continue to be deleted.
I really think you should read thoroughly the Welcome message I sent you originally with all the helpful notes on how Wikipedia works, as you don't seem to have quite grasped it yet. Oh, by the way, you shouldn't sign any contribution you make to an article page, although you should sign on a talk page like this one.
Hope this helps, Cheers, ♦ Jongleur100 talk 11:13, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism at the Education entry[edit]

Johnny Depp[edit]

And did he say why the French won't allow him to own one or whether Paradis owns one? The sources say he bought it for Paradis. Perhaps citizenship has something to do with him not owning it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:28, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, he didn't. Your explanation is possible, but it seems to me to be splitting hairs; even if he bought it and she legally owns it, they both live there - so why the denial? ♦ Jongleur100 talk 00:40, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Corruption of characters in a recent edit[edit]

Your recent edit of the Bread article shows that you corrupted the Gothic characters in it. Be aware of this potential problem in your future edits. DarkPhoenix (talk) 06:25, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing it out. However, in over 7,000 edits it's never happened before. It was just a straight reversion, so have you any idea of how or why it happened? ♦ Jongleur100 talk 12:37, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that it could be a problem with either Twinkle or with the MediaWiki reversion mechanism — It has already happened again on the Bread article by another Twinkle user doing a revert. DarkPhoenix (talk) 14:04, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I thought. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 14:06, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A small, short letter[edit]

Dear Jongleur100, I am the one who made the "bad" edit on the article 'Chewing Gum'. One of my friends, an administrator, talked with an editor about it, and they think we should make a community decision as a family on Wikipedia. Even the editor said the word has been changed throughout history of that article, and sometimes not event there at all. CamrynRocks! (talk) 23:15, 15 April 2010 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by CamrynRocks! (talkcontribs) 23:14, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Charles Ancliffe - Nights of Gladness.ogg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wales[edit]

I have put the Wales article forward for GA status. It just needs tweaking, and maybe a heavy-handed swipe from outside to get it in place. I am writing to those who are constant contributors and defenders of Wales and Welsh articles, to not scream at me for doing this, but to help get the article through. If we fail, we fail, there is nothing wrong with that; but Wales should be a Good Article at least and if it takes good intentioned amateurs to reach that then so be it. Labour Party[edit]

I would appreciate that any further reverts to the page Labour Party (UK), be adressed first on the Discussion Page. I feel that the previous version has too many hyperlinks and does not adequately summarise the page's content. One example is the top section of the opening paragraph, which merely stated 'The Labour Party is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom'. It now lists several more vital pieces of information on the topic and is more in line with the format used in the opening sections of Conservative Party (UK) and Liberal Democrats.MWhite 17:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwhite148 (talkcontribs)

Sainsbury's edit[edit]

I'm 100% with you that it's a bad image but I just don't get your edit summary that it's too old. Based on that logic we better get Winston Churchill's picture off Wikipedia ;) Mark83 (talk) 19:20, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The image caption reads Sainsbury's supermarket in Banbury during 2000. It was enlarged in 2009. So even if it was a superb picture, the store doesn't look like that now, and there are probably better, more up-to-date and representative photos of Sainsbury stores available.
I wouldn't like to have a more up-to-date image of Churchill though :) ♦ Jongleur100 talk 20:12, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Howling Sea[edit]

You might be interested in Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam#The_Howling_Sea. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:17, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I've reported it as a potential conflict of interest, but as I'm not too sure of the criteria used I await the outcome with interest. (Personally, I think it's a clear case of self-promotion.) Cheers ♦ Jongleur100 talk 12:32, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly that too, although I'd see them as separate issues anyway. Personally I don't mind COI too much: so long as it extends to a better depth of knowledge and doesn't breach other policies, I'm happy to have people directly connected writing the content they're best suited for. COI here would presumably affect The Howling Sea itself, the spam issue is about inbound links to it. I'd love to see more of those from East End and folk music articles, but the commutative issue is what really concerns me. I don't want a Brunel article that lists every song written about big steam-powered hats! Andy Dingley (talk) 17:17, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We seem to be approaching this from different angles; I from the article itself, and you from the internal spam links to it. As an avowed inclusionist I too don't have much of a problem with COI except where, as in this case, there are no verifiable external references to back it up. As for them being separate issues I appreciate that we are urged to assume good faith, but it can't be entirely coincidental that two separate editors are concerned with the same subject at the same time. Best. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 17:54, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Roundhouse[edit]

Hi there. The reason I added Roundhouse to the lead of Village lock-up was Roundhouse (lock-up) which redirects there. Since "[roundhouse]s were something completely different", would you say that this redirect is incorrect? Should it be removed? --Muhandes (talk) 17:48, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. I've never heard of a lock-up being called a roundhouse, but I'm no expert on the subject. The article made no reference at all to roundhouses until you added it, and I feel it's a bit unsafe to mention it, especially in the lead, without a reference. I can't imagine why the redirect is there.
If you can find a source anywhere please feel free to add it. Best. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 23:12, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it's already in the article's lead, but not as roundhouse but as "round-house", and Oxford is the source. That makes the redirect much more plausible. Best regards and happy editing. --Muhandes (talk) 00:10, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see now, it's a local nickname, which is probably why I haven't heard of it. (Note to self - read the article properly before you reply next time.) The redirect is OK then, but IMHO roundhouse still doesn't warrant a special mention in the lede over the other nick-names. Cheers ♦ Jongleur100 talk 11:20, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. I should have also looked better at the article before adding it. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 12:04, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I removed your link for a variety of reasons. You placed it in the body of the article, which is not allowed. External links should be placed at the appropriate place at the end of the article.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory. External links should in some way enhance the understanding of the subject for the reader. In my opinion your link was not placed there to enhance the article but to tout for business, which in my view makes it spam.
You maintain that your scripts are 'free'. I refer you to your own website which states :
QUESTION: Do I give these scripts away free?
ANSWER: Yes - but only to Axminster Drama Club. Everyone else is asked to make a donation to my restoration fund.
Prices vary with performances and size of audiences but are very competitive!
QUESTION: What are typical costs?
ANSWER: Depends.  From FREE  to £250. For most clubs: £100.
A compulsory 'donation' is not a donation at all – it's a fee, and this is a very common way of generating income commercially.
I've had a look at the link you complain about and they are offering genuinely free scripts, but asking for a donation via Paypal. Even if there was a case for removing it this guideline explains why other spam links have no bearing on your own.

WP:OTHERSPAMEXISTS WP:OTHERSPAM

Inclusion of one spam link is not a reason to include another
Many times users can be confused by the removal of spam links because other links that could be construed as spam have been added to the article and not yet removed. The inclusion of a spam link should not be construed as an endorsement of the spam link, nor should it be taken as a reason or excuse to include another.
I hope I have explained why we cannot allow links such as yours, and trust that you will not attempt to place it on the site again. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 12:28, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Radio revert[edit]

Hi, you reverted a rvv on Radio. "Wireless" is correct, which will hopefully be obvious if you read the section. You didn't provide a reason for your rv, so if you insist it should be "wired", we can discuss it here or on the article's talk page. -- Nczempin (talk) 15:53, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yes, of course you're right that it should be 'wireless'. I'm not quite sure how that happened, as I didn't knowingly revert. (I almost always give an edit summary when I do.) I can only think that this happened accidentally when I was playing around with my new Internet Tablet. The keys are VERY small and it's quite easy to click on the wrong one. I'll be more careful in future. Best. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 22:02, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I very rarely visit my talk page and thought I'd already replied to you.
I'm pleased that you like the pic, and flattered that a pro would like to use it.
Yes, of course you may do as you suggest - I assume that you do not want to use it for any other purpose.
It was taken when I was a very young man while I was working on board as a musician. I don't remember what make of camera I used but am pretty sure it would have been a very cheap, bog-standard one.
I've scanned and digitised it from an old print.

Best ♦ Jongleur100 talk 12:57, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert my edits - I only changed the position of what was already in the article, but under an incorrect heading. Denisarona (talk) 13:04, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In fact you have re-placed fictional characters under the heading 'Notable Alumni' - why?? Denisarona (talk) 13:06, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meant to delete the two entries along with the heading. As I said in my summary they are unsourced, tenuous trivia which add nothing to the article. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 13:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cheltenham photo query[edit]

Hello, Jongleur100, just stopping by on the off-chance that you might be able to help - don't worry if you can't. My current project is an article about the Boden Professors of Sanskrit at Oxford (underway at user:Bencherlite/Boden Professor of Sanskrit). The post was established by a James Boden, whose daughter Elizabeth is buried at Trinity Cheltenham. Her memorial in the church records the terms of his will, and so I thought that a picture of it might be a good addition to the article. I've had a look on Flickr, Geograph and Google and there's nothing I can use. So I had a trawl through Category:Wikipedians in Gloucestershire and spotted that you live in Cheltenham and take photos... I don't know if the church is ever open outside service times or whether it allows photography - or even whether the memorial is visible these days! - but if you happened to be in the area and happened to be able to get a snap of it, extreme gratitude would be sent in your direction in abundant measure. If not, don't worry, it's a long-shot and the world can live without such a photo anyway! No rush, needless to say. Best wishes, BencherliteTalk 00:12, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I actually live about 15 miles from Cheltenham but am a fairly frequent visitor. Strangely enough I was in Trinity church about a month ago, my first visit there. The organist was practising, so the door was open and I wandered in. I'm not sure how accessible it normally is, or indeed if it's possible to get down into the crypt, but I will certainly pay a visit (with camera at the ready) next time I go over to Cheltenham. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 12:50, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've now had a chance to visit the church and I'm afraid the news is not good. The vault is not accessible because it's currently sealed off. Apparently they suspect that not only does it contain asbestos, but also 'medieval spores and viruses' which may be injurious to health! So Elizabeth will have to remain where she is, unphotographed and unaware that she is the object of interest in the 21st century. Sorry. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 19:40, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Photo usage[edit]

I hope you're happy with it, please let me know if this is not the case. You can find the game here: http://apps.facebook.com/animalalbum Or through here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/AnimalAlbum/156339584490672

P.S. Thanks for taking the picture and making it available.

That's fine. Glad to be of help. ♦ Jongleur100 talk 19:45, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! The game has grown and changed a lot in the meantime. I wanted to make sure it's still ok for me to use the picture. Also, because I want to make sure there's no misunderstanding, you are the original photographer correct? It sometimes happens that another person simply takes a picture from somebody else and uploads it to wikipedia with a license to distribute. That is why I'm asking.
There is more information on the game here, including a short video that tells a little bit about the background: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/238178285/animalalbum
I also have a demo version of the game available so you can see for yourself in what way the pictures are presented: http://dromedarydreams.com/index/demo/0-8
Please let me know if I have your permission, if the picture is yours and if you want anything changed to the attribution.
With kind regards, Sjors Jansen (all.animalalbum@gmail.com) Garfunkel Jansen (talk) 17:37, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:14, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.
