Battle[edit]

Rather than tag Battle of the Hotel Nacional of Cuba of October 2, 1933 for deletion, I have move it to User:Jorgec1027/sandbox. Do no even think of moving it back until it is a properly formatted and, more importantly, properly referenced article. Copyright[edit]

Hello. It looks like you are copying and pasting material from old New York Times articles into Wikipedia. This is a a copyright violation and cannot be done. You must rewrite any information you add in your own words. The only bits that can be produced verbatim are quotes. In some cases the material you added used terms like 'last night' that make no sense in the context of an article on a historical event. Number 5 7 09:25, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see the original NYT article, so I have no idea if you have copy pasted it – if you didn't – and only the quotes are copied word for word – then it should be fine. However, I would point out a few other issues with what you've written:

Don't refer to people as "Dr Gomez". Just refer to them as "Gomez"
Use sentence case in headings (i.e. don't capitalise every word unless it's a proper noun)
Don't use ampersands (&) in headings
Don't use ’ – use ' instead
Don't leave a space at the start of a paragraph, or it turns it into basic text.
You need to add {{reflist}} to make references appear in the references section
If you have used a reference in the text, you do not need to write it in the references section, it will appear there automatically
If you use the same reference more than once, use the code <ref name=NYT> the first time you use the reference, and then when you use it again, you only need to put <ref name=NYT/> and not the rest of the text.
There is no need to repeat numbers in brackets after writing them out.
Biographies should be chronological. The text jumps around from him being the son of X and Y, to who he married, then back to where he was born etc. It doesn't read fluently

There were also quite a few grammatical and syntax errors that needed correcting, so it might be advisable for you to use a spell and grammar checker. I've cleaned the article up to what it might be expected to look like. Cheers, Number 5 7 20:18, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More copying word-for-word[edit]

While I cannot see one of the sources you used in your recent additions to 1905 Cuban general election, I can see that you have copied some text word-for-word from this one ("The Peace Commission made a finding that the [Cuban] Congressional elections of 1905 were so tainted with fraud as to render them illegal"). You were told above that you must rewrite text in your own words (adding 'Cuban' in the middle of the sentence is not rewriting the text) – you can only copy word-for-word if you do use the text as a quote.

Please consider this a final warning. If you continue to copy paste material from other sources into Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing until you can make it clear that you understand you cannot do this. I cannot view the Fitzgibbon source, but if you have copied any material from that word-for-word, please edit it as soon as possible. Number 5 7 18:28, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In your recent edits you have now resorted to simply adding all the text as quotes, which is not an really acceptable answer to your desire to copy/paste from other sources. Please rewrite it in your own words.

I'll make more of it in my words. Regarding the 1908 election, I understand new edits contradicted the text already in the article with respect to the voter turnout. I simply did not wish to delete what someone else had cited, though so I was unclear as to what was best to do there.

Usually if you find information that contradicts that already in an article, the best thing to do is to start a discussion on the talk page to try and determine which source is more likely to be correct. Cheers, Number 5 7 15:08, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
