Basic Userbox Help[edit]

Hi! Saw your question at the WP:Help Desk. I'm not that experienced with user boxes either...but here's how to make a basic userbox using the template.

This is vary basic but,...

border-c and border-s The color and thickness of the border respectively. For help on HTML colors see [[Web colors#HTML color names
id Any text you want in the smaller box. id-c The color of the smaller box
info Any text you want in the bigger box. info-c The color of the bigger box

User Box question[edit]

Is it possible to do what I want, while creating a User Box? Does anyone know how to make that User Box "rectangle" as just one full rectangle ... without separating the smaller left side from the larger right side? Is there a way to make the User Box as just one, full rectangle? Sort of like the box I created below? In the box below, I "cheated" by taking the left side and making it the same exact color as the right side. I'd like a User Box to look like this, in appearance. But, have the text be visible (perhaps, centered) in the full rectangle ... not have the rectangle split into a left and right side. Is this possible?

How to make a User Box bigger[edit]

How do I make a User Box bigger ... meaning, more width and more height? Here is the "code" below that I am using.

I have not tested it out yet but adding |id-w = and |id-h = should change the width of the id box (left box) respectively. Their parameters are the number of pixels you want so, |id-w = 1000 would make a box with a width of 1000 OkayKenji ^{(talk page)} 00:21, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The width is fixed to make userboxes line up in columns. If you really want a different width on your own userpage then you can use Special:ExpandTemplates to find code like width:236px and wrap the userbox in {{replace|...|width:236px|width:472px}}:

Don't do this on userboxes meant for transclusion by others, and generally don't use {{replace}} to manipulate template output outside your own userspace. It's an unstable method. For example, if border-s is changed then width:236px is also changed. The width is 240 − 2×border-s, but this could also change if the default infobox design is changed. Different colors: verbal names versus 6-digit code numbers[edit]

The above "box" contains three different colors ... "solid grey" ... "navy" ... and "white". How can I find the 6-digit code numbers for these colors, instead of using the verbal descriptions of the colors? For example, I can't find "solid grey" anywhere. Thanks. Joseph A. Script fonts that "work" in CSS and in Wikipedia[edit]

Hello. I am trying to find a list of "script" types of fonts, that will "work" in CSS and in Wikipedia. Is there some list available? Here on Wikipedia ...? Or on the Internet ...? Or do I have to do a "trial and error" on each specific font to see if it will work? I am referring to fonts like these ---> List of script typefaces. Thanks. Joseph A. The font code is passed directly to your browser so it's the browser or operating system and not Wikipedia which decides what works. It varies which fonts a browser can show but there are fallbacks so the browser will still show the text with another font. You have freedom in your userspace but see MOS:FONTFAMILY for articles. You can try searching for web-safe fonts. There are many Google hits but I don't know which to recommend. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:01, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. OK, so which fonts are "usable" depends not on Wikipedia, but on my browser (i.e., Mozilla Firefox). So -- back to my original question -- to see if a font is "usable" (for my browser), do I have to go through each font, one by one, and do a "trial and error"? Yes, they should be available. You can select them in Firefox to use at sites like Wikipedia which don't declare a font but use the browser's default.
