Changes on Insane Robots page

Hi Joseve,

I painstakingly created the Insane Robots Wikipedia page, and I see you have deleted most of it for "copyright violation". The content there does not violate any copyright; I am the copright owner and I can assure you of that.

Please can you restore the content of the page, especially as it is now very inaccurate and missing most of it's relevant information.

@Rbdavis: As anybody can create an account on Wikipedia, anybody can pretend to be anybody here. That's why we don't allow content from the web to be posted on our website unless the source is under the same Creative Commons license as Wikipedia is, or if the copyright owner emails a release for the original content to be licensed under said license. Please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. We only host material which are either in the public domain or licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. Thanks for your reply.

I understand that in your view the copyright issue relates to the body text descrbing the game (though this is in the public domain, has been distributed widely without copyright notice via press releases, reproduced widely in publications online already, and is on the public web pages of numerous entities including Microsoft, Sony and Valve). Anyway, we will seek to complete the paperwork you are requesting if it is a requirement.

However this does not apply to the press citations in the "reception" section, which were painstakingly set up according to Wiki protocols to include links, dates, quotes, titles, etc. This is what took about a day of work and there was no reason to just delete this, and journalists article are certainly not protected from linking by any application of copyright law. Therefore please reinstate these as a matter of urgency.

I am not an administrator, and can therefore not delete nor undelete deleted content. I only marked your edits as being copied from elsewhere online and reverted to a previous version. In order to have some content undeteled, you need to contact the deleting Hut 8.5, or by contacting OTRS as above. I merly tagged your article, I did not take nay administrative action. I understand that you marked the game's description content for deletion and I accept this deletion.

However, the labourously added press citations were not in any way content copied from elsewhere, so you marked them incorrectly. I am not able to navigate these systems to undelete the content your tagging caused to be deleted. You made the mistake. Can you please untag and undelete the press citations. They should never have been deleted. I don't go around Wikipedia tagging things incorrectly to be deleted, and neither should you.

@Rbdavis: I literally cannot. I do not have the technical capabilities to undelete content which has been redacted or deleted, only administrators do, such as Hut 8.5 who redacted your edits. The edits you made included content which was copied from elsewhere online, and therefore those entire revisions needed to be reverted and redacted from public view, per our policies on copyrighted content and revision deletion criteria 1. I cannot undelete content deleted by administrators, I have as much (or little) power as you do. What you can do is contact the deleting admin, email OTRS and license the content which was removed as being free, or ask on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard for the content which wasn't copied, to be reinstated. Guideline and policy news

After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.

Technical news

The WMF Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input on the second set of wireframes for the Special:Block redesign that will introduce partial blocks. The new functionality will allow you to block a user from editing a specific set of pages, pages in a category, a namespace, and for specific actions such as moving pages and uploading files.

Legacy JavaScript global variables have been deprecated for seven years. They will soon be removed from all wikis. Gadgets and scripts that use them will stop working. You can test your community's gadgets on "group0" wikis. For example Test Wikipedia or mediawiki.org. The legacy JavaScript global variables are already disabled there. Recent changes

You can now see moved paragraphs in diffs in the mobile view. It also works on all languages in the desktop view. [7]
Bureaucrats on all Wikimedia wikis can now remove the interface admin user right. [8]

Problems

Some diffs show lines in the wrong order. The developers are working on fixing it. [9]

Changes later this week

The message you see when you thank a user will change. This is to make it easier to understand. [10]
AWB will stop adding using AWB in the edit summary. Instead it will add a tag that says AWB. [11]
Some abuse filter variables have changed. They are now easier to understand for non-experts. The old variables will still work but filter editors are encouraged to replace them with the new ones. You can find the list of changed variables on mediawiki.org. They have a note which says Deprecated. Use ... instead. An example is article_text which is now page_title. [12]
Abuse filters can now use how old a page is. The variable is page_age. [13]
