Unclosed <font/> tag in signature?[edit]

It looks like you have, or had, an unclosed <font> tag in your signature, which caused some color bleeding on WP:FAC. I fixed it there, but you might want to re-check the HTML in your signature and make sure the tags are all closed. Thanks! Demi T/C 20:00, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jamaica[edit]

I noticed your note to Tobias Conradi on his talk page about moves to Jamaica. I've done some similar work (mostly with Antigua), and I have some questions:

1) In Jamaica, are the parish names used commonly? In many other Caribbean islands, the Parish divisions are considered "not relevant" by the ISO, in other words, simply lines on a map with little other meaning.

2) What about disambiguating with country? Like, "Saint Mary (Jamaica)" or "Saint Mary Parish (Jamaica)", as parenthetical disambig seems to be the favored method among countries (And makes it look different from cities). Also possible is "Saint Mary (Jamaican parish)".

2a) However, for the Caribbean, I've been working on a different standard; "X Parish, Country", because there were so many parishes with the same names, and so many of them aren't relevant.

2b) HOWEVER, if the parish means more in Jamaica than in, say, Barbados or Antigua, then 2a doesn't matter.

2c) Also the fact that Jamaica's parishes have a lot of unique names, whereas other islands have many similar or identical parish names. For example, the islands of Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent all have a parish named Saint George.

So, I guess, my main questions are: What's the standard usage in Jamaica, is it a relevant division, and which disambig method do you prefer? Please let me know on my talk page. Thank you so much! --Golbez 06:34, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Journalist, thanks for your note. To share thoughts with the community and not sink them on private talk pages as Golbez suggested, I started: Talk:Parishes of Jamaica. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 10:45, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Could you help please[edit]

Hey Orane, I want to upload a drawing my friend made for me. I want to use it on my user page. It is a bitmap image, I tried saving it as a psd image and it will not let me upload either one. Is there anyway to remedy this?

  • P.S. Check out the pic of my cat on my user page tell me what ya think of her :-D lol.KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 06:35, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That was very helpful gave me an idea i don't know if it will work but it just might. Thanks KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 21:13, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I got it! Check it out it's my nicknameKnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 21:31, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to take so long to answer you, I was eatting my supper. I optimized it as a gif format, through AdobeImageReady. I thought that a gif is made for World Wide Web use, so it would have to be perfect for uploading. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 22:45, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User 198.70.42.52[edit]

You deleted my report of User:198.70.42.52 at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Just curious-- why? TIA, -- Mwanner | Talk 23:21, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem-- I hadn't used that page before, so I wasn't sure. So if we don't catch the little buggers contributors in the act, nothing ever happens to them? Seems like there ought to be something more we can do than make empty threats on their talk pages. Ah, well... Thanks for the explanation. -- Mwanner | Talk 23:36, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Psy guy's RfA[edit]

Networking[edit]

Hello, I read your user profile and was happy to discover such a person existed. I am very similar to you in many ways (young, intelligent Jamaican in Northern America plus a few other things). I am a college student at Hamilton College (small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere in central NY if you don't feel like looking it up) who is somewhat fed up with society in general. I'm looking to create alternatives to many of the social games and procedures that have largely been created by stupid European Males. I'm trying to develop an online network of intelligent people to help me do this. Right now I'm trying to make a decent amount of money through online entrepreneurialism and then leave school and start my own establishments for people who are also dissatisfied with the status quo of North America and Europe. Please email me at rganemcc@hamilton.edu or AIM me at RobinGaneMcCalla if you are interested in discussing this further.

Your sig[edit]

Hello. Your sig was making a mess over at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ann Heneghan. It was missing the </font> after Or. If your sig is Ok then it may have been a mistaken edit or a prank by somebody.  :-) --hydnjo talk 23:13, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Now that HTML Tidy is working again you may want to rv to the last before your fixes to get back to a "clean" version. I'm sorry that I mislead you on this. It appears that any HTML errors were being silently tended to with Tidy and so folks weren't aware of any markup problems in their sig. When Tidy went down all hell broke loose as every markup error did its thing.  :-( --hydnjo talk 05:13, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that this edit caused a re-rendering of this page and all looks fine. Again, sorry for the confusion.  :-) --hydnjo talk 05:17, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

reverting Oprah[edit]

Just a friendly reminder (for those blessed with automated rollback) to always see if there is vandalism from multiple sources. By my count, there were five consecutive bad-faith edits to Oprah Winfrey by four different users before your edit, so I reverted her furtherFREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 18:41, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

May I have your opinion[edit]

Hey Orane, long time no chat huh! I was wondering if you would have a look at two articles I want to merge I asked an other editors opinion and he thinks they should stay seperate but he says that opinion of his is not very strong so I'm gonna ask someone I hold in high regard and trust very much. I think an article I wrote: Montgomery Improvement Association should be merged with Montgomery Bus Boycott. Please see Montgomery Bus Boycott talk page for my opinion on the matter and let me know what you think? Thanks so much. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 21:00, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • P.S. Your gonna get a very good joke in about 3 hours I need to find a really good one for you. :-D

Ditto![edit]

Thank you! :) And I (Extraordinary Machine) award the Deletionists'/Editor's Barnstar for trimming the Mariah Carey article down also. I often find it difficult removing content from articles, especially when it's me who added it in the first place, and I know you also contributed much of the information on the Mariah Carey article that you later had to remove. Still, the article is much better for it, and I'm about to submit it for peer review to generate even more discussion. I probably won't have time to take a look at the Celine Dion article this evening, but I'll try to by Friday (have an essay to write :-().

Also, the Mariah Carey wiki at Wikicities has been set up here. Check it out (though there aren't any articles yet), and feel free to join by all means! Extraordinary Machine 22:13, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review[edit]

You know, another great way for you to express your appreciation of my Peer Review of Celine Dion would be to do one on The Waterboys, which has been sitting around for a while... And, of course, thanks for the vote of confidence. Jkelly 22:22, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You wrote 'maybe another time'. But most of the objections raised against Halibutt, a contributor who has been with us for more then two years, are actually about a fairly old events. I think that most of the objections raised there have been addressed already addressed. You may want to read Halibutt's responces there - to me they prove that he is a trustworthy person. Not perfect, no - but who among us has never erred? That he can ackowledge his mistakes, apologize and learn from them is to me a sign of a good editor - and a good person. Why should we wait any longer to recognize him as a valuable contributor? And how long should we wait? A months? 6? Another two years? I'd like to ask you to reconsider your position, especially in light of Halibutt's responces.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 22:41, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reply. The vote is oscilating around 70%, and any vote change can literally 'tip the balance', so if you think that neutral may better represent your view, by all means, don't hesitate to change it :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 00:43, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Just for the record, I doubt I will reaply should my candidacy be turned down. After all in a year or so the same set of people would use the same arguments and the ammount of time that will have passed plays little role here. Halibutt 00:47, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No way. If I had known that so many people think of my contribution to wikipedia so lowly, I would never apply for adminship. It costs me dearly and I do take it personally. Frankly speaking, if I had known that before, I would most probably withdraw from English wikipedia just like I withdrew from the Polish one.
Besides, if people now oppose my candidacy because they consider me a nationalist, there's no chance they will change their mind in ten years, even if I didn't make a single contribution until my next RfA. So no, this one is most probably the final. Halibutt 01:06, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, I'm not kind of the guy to try 1000 times in a row, I'm not the one to follow the they kick you through the door - go back through the window method... But thanks for changing your mind, contrary to what you said on my talk page, your vote really did change something as after it the odds changed significantly. Thanks. As promised[edit]

Two employees for the gas company are on a house call. The younger employee says to the older one "Jeez, you're old!" "Yeah that may be so, but I can still outrun you," replies the older employee. "How about a running race to see if your right?" With that they start running at full speed around the block. The older man keeps up with the younger man around the first corner the second and the third. As they come up on the last corner, the younger man sees an elderly woman running as fast as her legs will carry her, behind them. Puzzled by this, they both stop and ask her why she is running. The old woman catches her breath and says. "Well, you were at my home checking my gas meter, and when I saw you running away, I thought I'd better run too!"

  • Why did the blonde cross the road? I don't know and neither does she!. Cheers. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 23:11, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User Box Problems[edit]

Hello Journalist, and fellow Ontario resident. I'm not really a new user, but then again I still have a lot to learn about Wikipedia's technical stuff. I love to have a busy user page, full of my weird and sometimes stupid remarks and userboxes. My question is, how do I align my user boxes to the right, and away from the rest of my userboxes? I've tried a few things, I also looked at other user pages to try and solve it but I haven't been able to figure it out. Right now I have them under a seperate headline just so it doesn't look too horrible. Oh yeah, also could you tell me to keep the headline away from being connected to the previous section? As you can see on my "Pages I have Created" headline, it is a little disoriented. Any help you can give would be great. Croat Canuck 05:33, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
