Kolkata edits[edit]

Hi! First of all, welcome to wikipedia :)

Next, my apologies, for not explaining properly why the cuisine section from Kolkata was deleted/integrated to culture section. The article Kolkata is a featured article in wikipedia (that is, one of the best articles in wikipedia), selected through a featured article candidacy procedure. So, usually major changes in the article should be discussed in the article's talk page first. However, that is not a rule, and really important changes may need to be made.

Coming to cuisine, almost every big city like Kolkata has its own cuisine pool. However, cuisine, by convention, is not a section heading in any of the city articles. For Indian city articles, there is a wikiproject named WikiProject Indian cities which suggests some guidelines on city articles. And it suggests to "Mention popular cuisines" under "Culture" section. This was indeed done according to summary style.

The rationale is, all cities has millions things to tell about. However, we have to maintain summary style, create daughter articles as necessary, and touch all the topics in gist. Sometimes it becomes tough to maintain the balance, but wikipedia strives towards maintaining the balance.

The content of your posting was neither wrong nor irrelevant, but just not necessary in Kolkata article per WP:SS and the Wikiprject cities, since the culture section already includes the cuisine in a summary style. On the other hand, your content may prove to be perfect for an article named Cuisines of Kolkata, which could be linked to the main article Kolkata.
