Welcome!

Hello, K-Drone, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as ConTemporal, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! noq (talk) 14:14, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article ConTemporal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unsourced and google does not shed any light on its existence

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 14:14, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on ConTemporal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 15:00, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What do I need to do to get ConTemporal added (and treated accordingly) as a science fiction convention ?[edit]

...because that's what we are. :) Thanks! K-Drone (talk) 15:30, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, please read WP:conflict of interest. In order for an article to exist, there needs to be independent WP:reliable sources to establish WP:notability. From the article and from my searches on google that does not exist. noq (talk) 15:48, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

I have tried to remove any COI- or biased-sounding language from the article; mainly I was cited with using 'we.' I have asked others to contribute also; we all confirm that we do not show up on Google yet, and some of our folks are registering there. Please do not delete the article, as I believe it cen be made meritworthy in the same way as StellarCon and other sci-fi cons on wikipedia. K-Drone (talk) 16:08, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Things that you get added to google will not help in establishing notability. As stated previously, you need to show WP:notability with independent WP:reliable sources. If there is nothing there at the moment there is no notability. If independent reliable sources appear in the future then the article could be recreated but I would urge you not to do that yourself. Let others create it when and if it becomes notable.noq (talk) 16:21, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
K-Drone, Noq has given you some sound advice here. There was no importance asserted in the article, which is why it was ultimately deleted, and as an involved party you should not be creating the article yourself. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:29, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
To expand on that a bit: the point is that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a notice-board for announcing events. It's not enough that something exists: article subjects have to have notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people independent of the subject thought it important and significant enough to write substantial comment about? More detail at WP:CORP and WP:BFAQ.
