Electoral districts of Canada[edit]

Why are you renaming all the pages related to electoral districts of Canada based on a source that doesn't define the naming conventions for electoral districts? Specifically, you cited A Guide to Authors: A Guide for the Preparation of Geological Survey of Canada Maps and Reports as authoritative for the naming conventions. Could you please support the claim that that document indeed defines the conventions for electoral districts. The naming of districts at Elections Canada seems to contradict the source you provided. The Guide to Authors clearly states that en dashes are used to join place names on p. 68. The Elections Canada website uses en dashes in all of their district names. This is also the convention prescribed by the federal government's The Canadian Style: A Guide to Writing and Editing (2nd ed., 2008) and the Editors' Association of Canada's style guide, Editing Canadian English (2nd ed., 1997). I have never seen a guide that specified using em dashes; em dashes are a type of break, so should never be used to join compounds. K.d.stauffer (talk) 16:03, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

K.d., there are arguments on both sides of this issue. Please stop moving or renaming articles until the discussion has been resolved at Wikipedia_talk:Canadian_Wikipedians'_notice_board#Mass_naming_change_for_electoral_districts. Charging ahead with these changes at this point will get a lot of people upset and could lead to you being blocked. If the discussion gets resolved in your favour, you can continue with the clean up work, but until then, it is best to hold off. Ground Zero | t 19:39, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
