Gabre Gabric was born in 1917[edit]

The 1914 date is what was accepted by World Masters Athletics as her birthdate. If she turned 95 a week ago, her W95 World Records set over 2 years ago would not be valid. Thus the date is significant to some of her claims. The 1914 date is in sports reference as well. If you are claiming she is not eligible for the records, then some further investigation and formal procedures will need to be followed. Fauja Singh had his records invalidated when a similar investigation invalidated his birthdate authentication. I know Sandy Pashkin, I was there when that decision came up before the committee. She will jump on this stuff if there is an issue. So lets be very careful about what we publish that is contrary to what is on record. Lets get this right. Flags in the infobox[edit]

My understanding is they are generally discouraged. Wikipedia:Wikiproject Football (I think that is right) and Wikipedia:Wikiproject Tennis have gone round and round with that. I'm not entirely certain when they are allowed, and I tend to use whatever I see others using. If there is an issue and some one removes or adds, I leave it alone and heed to their wisdom. --LauraHale (talk) 08:59, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering, what is your source for Andrea Viviano's date of birth as 22 June 1904? Canadian Paul 17:11, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That source is not acceptable. For one thing, it's a blog, which, generally speaking, is not a reliable source. More importantly, it obviously just copied Football at the 1928 Summer Olympics – Men's team squads, and Wikipedia cannot be used as a source for itself. Someone added the date years ago without any source, so since four years have passed without any evidence to back this date up, I am going to remove it. Canadian Paul 17:25, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, most of those are articles are stubs. They can be dressed up as much with tables, infoboxes, and fancy graphics, but at the end of the day most of them have only a few sentences of actual prose. Giving a student a "C" when they've earned a "D" helps no one. Canadian Paul 17:46, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Compare their start class example with their C-class example and the articles I have changed. If you still believe they are C-class, just list all the articles here. I'll be happy to abide by whatever they decide. Canadian Paul 17:52, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I came here to address this exact problem with Telemaco Arcangeli, but I see that I have been beaten to it. We've had this discussion before. There are two editors telling you there's a problem with your removing stubs and there were three (including myself) telling you that your C-class assessments were inappropriate. That's five. How many more people do you need before you take our advice on assessing articles? We're only trying to help improve your editing. Canadian Paul 17:10, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK two is sufficient. From now I'll work to improve the article to remove stub or to update to c class, maybe I'll ask you before. ;-) --Kasper2006 (talk) 17:15, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing subcategories from Category:Chinese athletes[edit]

May I ask why you removed Category:Athletes from Shanghai and similar categories as subcategories of Category:Chinese athletes? I don't see a logical reason to do so. Logically, these are intersectional categories that should be subcategories of both supercategories whose intersections they are, under WP:SUBCAT. --Nlu (talk) 22:07, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Canadian track and field athletes[edit]

Do not empty categories out of process, and do not nominate categories for C1 when they fail the third clause of the deletion template. Nyttend (talk) 13:39, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's irrelevant. You're free to follow the process, but ignoring it is disruptive. Nyttend (talk) 16:30, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, I tend to agree with your reasoning; it's purely the way you're going about implementing it to which I am opposed. Nyttend (talk) 16:36, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding Category:American track and field athletes — you will be blocked if you empty any more categories out of process. Nyttend (talk) 00:49, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I can't completely understand your meaning in your most recent message. Regardless of the strength of your arguments, it's disruptive to run around the system and to get administrators to delete pages that definitely do not qualify for speedy deletion. Administrators are required to check to ensure that pages qualify for speedy deletion, and frankly I don't know why they didn't check these pages. Nyttend (talk) 14:10, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As I've already told you, I somewhat agree with the ideas that you're advocating. However, the way you're going about it is quite disruptive and liable to lead to you being blocked. Moreover, you deceived the administrators in question; the problem with them is that they didn't check and find that you had moved the category wrongly. Nyttend (talk) 17:08, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

American track and field athletes by state or territory[edit]

Your removal of this category from being within the Category:American track and field athletes tree makes no sense at all. If you do not like these category names, you are free to nominate them for change at CfD. However the attempt to reverse redirects without an actual discussion of the issue makes no sense.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:11, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am confused[edit]

I really am not sure what the intention of your comment on my talk page was. I am not sure why you are making comments there instead of at the CfD, and I am not sure what you are trying to do there. I am just confused.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:30, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vitaly Petrov[edit]

I saw you added a link to Vitaly Petrov in the Bubka and Isinbayeva articles. It currently shows as a red link, but I sincerely hope you turn that into a blue link. This articles need a good description of the Petrov method as it has been a major influence in the advancement of the event. Its been needed for years. Unfortunately, I do not know where to find that information on line. I've tried. So it will advance the world's knowledge to get this included. I look forward to reading about it myself. Trackinfo (talk) 08:07, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work. No insult intended here, but I am going to guess you are not a native English speaker (just based on some of the phraseology). When you get through the article I'd like to clean it up a little, but I'll need to know what you intend to say. What I think could be valuable would be a discussion of Petrov's technique. As I see it from afar, his vaulters do not take nearly as much bend to the pole, instead they seem to use a much more aggressive plant and finish than most other top level vaulters. But there are probably much more technical reasons for all of this which should be documented somewhere. Thank you so much for your effort. Trackinfo (talk) 16:36, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
