Postage stamp citations[edit]

Thank you for your additions of postage stamp information to various articles. Unfortunately, all your additions are incorrectly cited. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources for accepted methods. Please correct the additions you have already made.—Anita5192 (talk) 17:31, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected your additions at Miklós Zrínyi, so you can use my changes as a model. I would recommend also looking at Help:Footnotes & Wikipedia:Citation templates. Peaceray (talk) 15:05, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the information pages linked on this page. I appreciate that you are making an effort to fix your postage stamp citations, but trying to make them look like proper citations without actually fixing them, as you did at Loránd Eötvös, is not helpful.—Anita5192 (talk) 16:08, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Postage stamp additions[edit]

Hi,

please in the future do by this format the additions:

TEXT<ref>SOURCE</ref>

Put this code in, since the format you do with "SUP" and interventions in the references section that are generated automatically is problematic. Just see how I corrected the the Attila József article, as I did it plenty of other articles you edited. So, just write the information, then using the "ref" tag and put inside the source, everything will be genrated automatically. Thank You(KIENGIR (talk) 21:44, 19 July 2018 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks KIENGIRI for valuable suggestions. I tried to follow them thereafter. But then two messages by seniors were depressing to me. I was committing mistakes when I thought I was correcting! But I gather that, after all, I am not exactly being kicked out. There is scope for correcting. My mistakes were not intentional but out of ignorance. I definitely want to contribute positively however stereotype it may seem. Honors to an existing Wikipedia subject needs to be mentioned. And being a philatelist, I decided to mention Postage stamps issued. I am doing this in good faith and cannot think of disrupting the files. The suffix of URLs was intentionally left out as the remaining part was as good for an independent verification. Henceforth the suffix will be present in my edits if all of you permit me to edit. I came to think that my edits are not wanted / tolerated. The last two comments received by me (by email also) are in a language not known to me; will some body translate into English? My question: Should I continue with all the suggestions by senior editors? or is it a way to show me the door? Kaushwiki (talk) 12:03, 29 July 2018 (UTC)17.31 IST 29. 7.18[reply]

Ha, thanks for finally responding. If you do it this way, it is probably ok, and no doors will be shown, no worries. - DVdm (talk) 18:45, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have two suggestions:
  • If you are editing the wikitext, use "Citer". from Wikimedia Toolforge. Dropping in a URL like https://colnect.com/en/stamps/stamp/178802-Zr%C3%ADnyi_Ilona_1643-1703_defender_of_Munk%C3%A1cs_Fortress-Army_Day-Hungary& submitting yields this Named reference:
<ref name="Colnect">{{cite web | title=Stamp: Zrínyi Ilona (1643-1703) defender of Munkács Fortress (Hungary) (Army Day) Mi:HU 1271,Sn:HU 1022,Yt:HU 1060,AFA:HU 1243 | website=Colnect | url=https://colnect.com/en/stamps/stamp/178802-Zr%C3%ADnyi_Ilona_1643-1703_defender_of_Munk%C3%A1cs_Fortress-Army_Day-Hungary | access-date=2018-07-30}}</ref>. The citation portion of the reference would then appearslike this:
"Stamp: Zrínyi Ilona (1643-1703) defender of Munkács Fortress (Hungary) (Army Day) Mi:HU 1271,Sn:HU 1022,Yt:HU 1060,AFA:HU 1243". Colnect. Retrieved 2018-07-30.
I think that you would need to edit out the extraneous "(Army Day) Mi:HU 1271,Sn:HU 1022,Yt:HU 1060,AFA:HU 1243" from the title field, but you get the idea.
  • If you are using VisualEditor, you can use the Cite Add a Citation automatic option to drop in the full URL then generate the citation. Make sure that you choose the Insert button before trying to save it! After inserting it, you can then click on it & choose Edit to tweak it, remove extraneous characters, add or delete parameter fields, etc.

Formatting[edit]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. - DVdm (talk) 14:18, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note: most of your edits have been undone now. Please, before you add more content of that type, have a very careful look at the messages here above. Thank you. - DVdm (talk) 14:29, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you make disruptive edits to Wikipedia contrary to the Manual of Style, as you did at Ignác Martinovics. - DVdm (talk) 12:37, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please indent your talk page messages as outlined in wp:THREAD and wp:INDENT — See Help:Using talk pages. Thanks.
As I said above, if you can do it this way, it is probably ok. Do not forget the https-prefix. Try a few to begin with, and I'll have a look. - DVdm (talk) 13:20, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Dvdm. I made a few edits today. Will you please tell weather it is right?Kaushwiki (talk) 13:02, 1 August 2018 (UTC)kaushwiki 1.Aug.18. 18.32 IST[reply]
Please indent your talk page messages as outlined in wp:THREAD and wp:INDENT — See Help:Using talk pages.
I have only checked this one and this one, and they look very bad. Please have a careful look at the results. The links work now, but you have added badly formed English sentences, and the spacing is wrong. See for corrected spacing in what user KIENGIR (talk · contribs) corrected to this edit that you just made.
Try to make edits allong the lines explained above in the section "Postage stamp additions". - DVdm (talk) 13:35, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Again, the edit that you made here produces a very bad result. This is not a proper English sentence. Do you realise that? Do you know how sentences are supposed to be constructed in English? Could you please consider contributing to the Wikipedia of your own first language, as opposed to this one? - DVdm (talk) 10:46, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
