Thanks for catching the little mistake of forgetting to mention where we performed for District Festival, though just out of curiosity, were you actually there during Festival, because there were a bunch of good groups, besides us there....oh and as a little fact, I've also worked to make sure my school, Lake Braddock Secondary School, as well as creating the article for Lake Braddock Orchestras, and making sure that both have the most accurate information, though the orchestra one is lacking a history that I've not compiled yet, though the main school article is slightly more together. Thanks for taking my photograph of tower block demolition off the Demolition article (it was the original photo on the article), don't worry about it so long as you can put your own pictures on that add absolutely nothing to the article, one is the same as one that is already there, the other one is pointless. License tagging for Image:Leko.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Leko.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. Source Four PAR/PARNel[edit]

The Source Four PAR is different from the PARNel, which is meant to be an alternative to fresnels (hence it's name). Also, could you look at the article I just created for the Source Four. Stagecraft Assessment[edit]

Heya, so I'm working on adding assesments to the stagecraft banner and I've created a bunch of categories but they somehow aren't the same as the ones listed on the talk pages for items with the banner. Images I uploaded[edit]

Um the pin rail is actually up on that jump. It's permanent to the building. Those drops were actually rigged to the mini-stage for that show and the actors ran them. The shoew bag is actually a very common thing. Actors come and get there mics when they're ready and they put them back when they're done. It helps save time on preshow and makes them take responsibility for themselves. For that show I had about 23 radios. We used Sennheiser SK2012s, SK50s, and SK5012s. The most intereference I had in the space was from a local tv station. As for feedback... don't run them so hot.  :) As for the pictures, I plan on adding them to articles as soon as I figure out sizes and which ones would benefit from them. AFD Discussions[edit]

Thank you very much for your input on the Artices for Deletion pages of schools. I am also a member of the Wikiproject:Schools. It is nice to know that there are wikipedians out there who share the same views as myself. I have been working utterlessly ever since I was brought into this discussion because of my own article. It is still up for deletion, but I have been working to both improve the article to assert the "notability" requested of the users. I also noticed your articles after going around to try to support articles that have original research or have sources that they could derive from. Hopefully our work now will set a precedent so that every single article introduced into wikipedia is ripped apart and criticized by users whose only goal is deletion through an unwarranted and irrational manner. I re-edited the images that you listed on my talk page, and I hope that they're still ok :) I was a little worried about Image:UMESgrindstone.png, because I didn't know the color of the grindstone (was it gray? was the engraved stone gray, blue, etc.?). About recent page deletions[edit]

I have seen that I am not the only one whose pages have been removed. I find it interesting too that the Fairfax County Middle School pages remain while Loudoun County ones are either all deleted or merged. In short, do you think something fishy is occurring with these users who are more used to deleting pages than editing them?20176 00:03, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Winter Service Vehicle[edit]

Hi! I've commented out the addition of Image:BR180.JPG in Winter service vehicle for a number of reasons:

  1. There is already an image of a snow groomer in the article, which was taken in better lighting and higher resolution.
  2. As there are two images in one short section, the lower image is shunted into the section below; indeed, at high resolutions (1280 by 1024), it looks like the lower image is in fact part of the snow melter section.
  3. The snow groomer is covered in snow, which makes the unit hard to pick out.
  4. The contrast and lighting of the image is very poor, as all the light is diffused by the clouds (a condition known as whiteout.
  5. The image suffers from major motion blur and pixellation.
  6. The extra image doesn't add any extra information to the article.

I'm willing to discuss changes to the article, but as it is currently undergoing an WP:FAC here, it's best to keep it relatively stable. Laïka 15:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, don't want to sound alarmist, but user:Arthurrh has proposed eight FCPS Middle Schools for AfD here. They were all listed separately, so you'll have to dig to find some. Another headsup: Rachel Carson Middle School, which previously survived AfD is up again. user:Arthurrh feels that the Middle schools should be completely deleted, even though there is precedent for non-notable elementary schools to be merged on to their separate page ala Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clifton Elementary School (Clifton, Virginia). Fallout shelter/McLean High School[edit]

I was involved with the theater at MHS for 4 years and the shelter entrance is in the prop room backstage, 10-15 feet from the door, set into the floor, against the left hand wall. And yes, I do seem to remember a fallout sign above it. As of 1989 is wasn't kept locked, although I'm sure that has changed since. They've probably welded it shut by now.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum will be holding a Wikipedia Loves Art! meetup on Friday, February 27 from 5-7 pm in the Kogod Courtyard. Issue 1 - July, 2010

Hello and welcome to this, the first ever edition of the WikiProject Stagecraft Newsletter! If you haven't been over to the WikiProject page lately then you're missing out - the whole thing has undergone a complete makeover - see below for more info!
On top of this, we have brand spanking new templates (such as this one) and a completely revamped Collaboration of the Month - again, see below for more info on all of this.
Finally, a warning - the new-look WikiProject is still having the finishing touches put on it. If you find something that doesn't work, you don't agree with or is just plain missing, please don't hesitate to let us know on the WikiProject's talk page. We'll try our very best to fix ASAP!

New Look

As mentioned above, the WikiProject has recently undergone a spring-clean and we're excited about it! If you don't mind - we'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the features and generally show off about it a little.

  • Colour scheme All pages on the WikiProject now use two consistent shades of blue as part of the new streamlined interface (Those techies amongst us may wish to know that the precise names of the colours we use are: "lightblue" for headings and "#c0e0e0" for backgrounds).
  • Navigation Menu Every page on the WikiProject now has the official WikiProject navigation menu so you can easily flick between pages and get back to the main project page. Say goodbye to clicking the back button several times!
  • To Do list/Open Tasks If you're stuck on what to do to help us then a list of the most important tasks is now available on the main page. At the moment, the list is looking a little short so if you have found something that you think ought to be added, then feel free to edit the list and let us know. Please refrain from linking to a specific article that generally needs an overall update. Single articles like this should be nominated for a future Collaboration of The Month - see below.
Templates

All of the project's templates are now arranged in one handy page. Whilst we were going through we also noticed one was missing. We have now added the new template in the form of:

  • {{WPStagecraft Newsletter}} - the template containing the latest edition of the WikiProject Newsletter (you're looking at it now!)
Collaboration of the Month

Ok, so this isn't exactly a new feature. It's always been there but has never really been updated on a, ahem, monthly basis. The Collaboration of the Month (COTM) is now in template form to enable it to be streamlined across the Project, without having to be manually updated on each page. Don't worry if we've lost you at this point - the point is, it works! You can now nominate an article for COTM on the COTM page. The more sharp-eyed amongst you may well have noticed that the COTM at the moment is still that old fella, Stage lighting. That's because no-one has nominated a COTM for this month (being a new feature an' all...) so we've decided to leave it as it is for this month until a new one has been democratically voted for.

The "All Things GW" editathon on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. is a rare chance to go behind the scenes in the University Archives of the GW Libraries and use their unique resources to research and update Wikipedia pages related to The George Washington University and the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Did you miss our last D.C. history editathon? This is your is your chance to come edit with wiki-friends using different great collection! The event includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the University Archives and a show-and-tell of some of its most interesting treasures, snacks, and the editathon.

On Tuesday, 28 May there will be a community Wikipedia meeting at the United States National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland - with a second on Thursday, 30 May for those who can't make it on Tuesday. You can participate either in-person, or via an online webinar. If you attend in person, USB sticks (but not external drives) are ok to use.

We will discuss the work done so far by WikiProject U.S. Federal Government Legislative Data to put data from Congress onto Wikipedia, as well as what more needs to be done. Though we have a massive snowstorm coming up, spring is just around the corner! Personally, I am looking forward to warmer weather.

Wikimedia DC is looking forward to a spring full of cool and exciting activities. In March, we have coming up:

  • Evening WikiSalon on Wednesday, March 12 from 7 PM – 9 PM. Meet up with Wikipedians for coffee at the Cove co-working space in Dupont Circle! If you cannot make it in the evening, join us at our...
  • March Meetup on Sunday, March 23 from 3 PM – 6 PM. Our monthly weekend meetup, same place as last month. Meet really cool and interesting people!
  • Women in the Arts 2014 meetup and edit-a-thon on Sunday, March 30 from 10 AM – 5 PM. Our second annual Women in the Arts edit-a-thon, held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Free lunch will be served!

An exciting month of wiki events![edit]

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!

  • This Tuesday, April 29, from 2:30 to 5:30 PM, we have the Freer and Sackler edit-a-thon. (Sorry for the short notice!)
  • On Saturday, May 10 we have the Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon, in partnership with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Washington, DC meetups in June[edit]

Greetings!

Wikimedia DC has yet another busy month in June. Whether you're a newcomer to Wikipedia or have years of experience, we're happy to see you come. Here's what's coming up:

  • On Wednesday, June 11 from 7 to 9 PM come to the WikiSalon at the Cove co-working space. Hang out with Wikipedia enthusiasts!
  • Saturday, June 14 is the Frederick County History Edit-a-Thon from 11 AM to 4 PM. Help improve local history on Wikipedia.
  • The following Saturday, June 21, is the June Meetup. Dinner and drinks with Wikipedians!
  • Come on Tuesday, June 24 for the Wikipedia in Your Library edit-a-thon at GWU on local and LGBT history.
  • Last but not least, on Sunday, June 29 we have the Phillips Collection Edit-a-Thon in honor of the Made in America exhibit.

The Great American Wiknic and other events in July[edit]

I am pleased to announce our fourth annual picnic, the Great American Wiknic, will take place at Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 5 PM (rain date: July 20). We will be hanging out by the statue of Dante Alighieri, a statue that was donated to the park in 1921 as a tribute to Italian Americans. Read more about the statue on Wikipedia. July will also feature the second annual Great American Wiknic in Frederick, Maryland. This year’s Frederick picnic will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Baker Park. Sign up here for the Frederick picnic.

What else is going on in July? We have the American Chemical Society Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, July 12, dedicated to notable chemists, and our monthly WikiSalon on Wednesday, July 16.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon[edit]

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

Museum hacks and museum edits[edit]

Hello there!

Upcoming events:

  • February 6–8: The third annual ArtBytes Hackathon at the Walters Art Museum! This year Wikimedia DC is partnering with the Walters for a hack-a-thon at the intersection of art and technology, and I would like to see Wikimedia well represented.
  • February 11: The monthly WikiSalon, same place as usual. RSVP on Meetup or just show up!
  • February 15: Wiki Loves Small Museums in Ocean City. Mary Mark Ockerbloom, with support from Wikimedia DC, will be leading a workshop at the Small Museum Association Conference on how they can contribute to Wikipedia. Tons of representatives from GLAM institutions will be present, and we are looking for volunteers. If you would like to help out, check out "Information for Volunteers".

Thanks for uploading File:Centrevillestadium.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license.
