Thanks[edit]

Hi Keith

I just wish to say Thankyou for all of your hard work over the last 24 hrs bringing the season effects table upto date among other things :) Jason Rees (talk) 13:43, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Current Events Barnstar
For exemplary work on 2009 Pacific typhoon season. Jason Rees (talk) 13:43, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you please start using references to describe the current storm information rather than a "see this for more info" type of thing? The first-person tone doesn't exactly abide by policy and it goes outside of WP:ELPOINTS. Thanks. GraYoshi2x►talk 22:36, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Data for cyclone tracks[edit]

I got them while the storm was active (monitored as an invest) and the NRL was updating their running best tracks for the system. JasonRees usually webcites these so we can use them even when the link is no longer there. Also, since you now have the track program, I would like to know if you know any of the tricks to show entire tracks, including remnant low and extratropical points, so portions are not cut off. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 19:06, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am just asking if you can update The season summary map for SWIO and Anja's track? Thanks, and good luck with it! Also, do you want a Project page about track requests (like WP:WPTC/Track Requests)? Darren23Edits|Mail 00:00, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heres the final track for 97S Invest which was a weak TL in AUS if you can do us a track id be gratefull. Also nice work with your tracks so far :) ThanksJason Rees (talk) 20:31, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TL track[edit]

Hey, apparently you already know more than I do with this. How did you get the track to show even though all the points were put as low? Cyclonebiskit (talk) 22:29, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks. If you have the time, and if you know them, could you tell me the other parameters that you know of? Cyclonebiskit (talk) 00:22, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Track Maps[edit]

Hello, I was wondering, what operating system do you use the track map generator on?

Thanks --Priyanka 03:40, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, By any chance, could you tell me how to install the program? The description on the main page doesn't make sense.

Thanks --Priyanka 22:31, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need some help please...[edit]

Hello,

How do I make the track map generator create tracks for current storms. Meaning how do I upload data for the generator?

Thanks --Priyanka 19:23, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Could you please sent me the spread sheet? Thanks a lot --Priyanka 19:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Track Map problem...[edit]

Hello, When I am using your excel spreadsheet for recent storms with JTWC data, I came across a problem. For example, with the current JTWC 98S data, it shows up just west of South America. Do you know what is wrong?

Thanks, --Priyanka 00:52, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

03F[edit]

Hi Keith.

Would it be possible for you to do a trackmap for 03F? There is no JTWC data but RSMC Nadi included the point in their warnings so i believe its fine to be used. Thanks Jason Rees (talk) 04:13, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the track maps Keith - Just as a heads up youre webcite of todays Darwin TWO points to the Perth TWO. Jason Rees (talk) 18:20, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Keith Edkins! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 25 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 938 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Keith, can I persuade you to take the above notice seriously. Your were the one who originally entered these articles, back in July 04, when you did a whole series of such articles. since you were probably working from some obvious news source at the time, you could easily have specified it--perhaps you could do so now. Various people have been trying to cope with these, and it has gotten involved in a dispute how to handle them and other similarly unsourced bios, which could have all been avoided, for the primary responsibility for sourcing them was and remains yours.

So far we have only been disputing about unsourced BLPs, but I notice you have entered a great many other unsourced biographical articles for deceased people at about the same time--please, could you go back and try to source them. I know things were much more informal then, but I think the principle of WP:V was present. DGG ( talk ) 00:30, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Track map program[edit]

As you have likely seen, I am without the track program and it seems my laptop is no longer being "nice" and letting me re-install it. I was wondering what system you use (Mac or Windows) and if you could help me in downloading the program so I can help out in maintaining the tracks once more. Thanks, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 17:20, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have both, but since it will likely be easier for you, I'll do it via windows. If you can, could you just list the steps of what I have to do to get the program up and running on my talk page? I wont be home for at least another hour. Thanks, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 19:38, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have nothing from my old computer and I've never used the track program on windows before. So, I don't have the map saved on my computer. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:21, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this is just because the map hasn't finished downloading but when I try to open the program, is says it cannot be found (although I'm staring right at it) and closes it right away. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 01:23, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

W/C[edit]

Can you please put a temporary stop on your archiver deleting advisories after a few days please. I ask as this message has just appeared on Web cite "Bad news Website is currently under maintenance. Its being migrated to a new powerful server. We will be back up soon." Thanks.Jason Rees (talk) 21:29, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I personally cant see W/C being down for long, but its been playing up all week so who knows.Jason Rees (talk) 22:24, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since Web-cite is still down - Ive taken the liberty of finding all the JMA Advisories on Omais on WX TROP and link them in the logs so you can get rid of them if you're running out of space on your archiver.Jason Rees (talk) 16:14, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do you store the advisories you put online on your hard-drive and just take them offline as needed? If you run out of space on your host you could WebCite a batch and remove, put up the next and continue. By the way, what program do you use to automatically archive these? I have a personal archiver that a friend developed for me, but yours seems to be different. How does it work? -- RattleMan 17:59, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. The program my friend developed is written for Windows in C# and begins by downloading each file in the list, saving once with the timestamp it was downloaded at (e.g. "012429-fqps45.nzkl..txt"), and once with just the filename (e.g. "fqps45.nzkl..txt"). The archiver is set to run every 25 minutes, and each time it runs, it compares the new file with the stored one (the "just the filename" version; I think by comparing CRCs), and if it's different, it saves the file with the timestamp it was downloaded at. If it's the same, it does nothing. Unfortunately, my program also stops if it encounters unresponsive server, but since it always notifies me when that happens I can rework the list around the problem. If by chance you miss anything in the future, check with me and I'll see if I have it. -- RattleMan 20:34, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for transferring all of the warnings to webcite. :) Jason Rees (talk) 17:10, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI - TCWC Wellington are issuing advisories on a Sub/Tropical Low 94P. Ive had to link to your archiver as webcite "can not establish the root of the downloaded page. This is most likely caused by a page class which isn't supported yet by WebCite."Jason Rees (talk) 00:39, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello...[edit]

Hello, I was just wondering if you have the tracking map generator. If you do, could you send me "track.c" in the track directory? This is the file that does not work for me and I was wondering if it will work if there is another "proper" track.c Thanks, --Yueof theNorth 15:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am sorry to bother you again, but could you send me track.o as well. The program gives an error in line 25 and I cannot edit the file itself. Thanks, --Yueof theNorth 16:33, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed that the problem was actually in track.c. Here is the link to the error message, it is the fourth to the bottom line, [2]. The line in Track .c says:

const double M_PI = 3.14159265358979323846;	/* KE-FIX line added as M_PI not defined in my configuration */

Thanks, --Yueof theNorth 17:54, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:SouthamptonItchamConstituency.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Reviewer granted[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Juliancolton (talk) 18:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Bristol Bombay.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bristol Bombay.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 10:57, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tracks[edit]

Hi Keith

After discussions online with some of the other members of the project, Ive decided to start chucking all of the trackmap data from NRL into a subpage of the PTS. The aim the subpage is to contain all data of the tropical depressions in hurdat format so anyone who has access to the Track map program can update the seasonal track map as required. Anyway i was wondering if you still had the tracking data from NRL for Junes 94W and Aprils 90W if so can you please pass it to me or feel free to update the data page. Regards Jason Rees (talk) 02:28, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:BelfastEastUKParliamentConstituency.png is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:40, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your Archiver[edit]

Just wondering can we get Nadis TWO added to your archiver please - it seems to contain more info than the normal Tropical Disturbance Summaries and Marine Bulls thanks.Jason Rees (talk) 01:59, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - i dont know of any other PDFs worth archiving that change on a frequent basis bar the IMDs all India forecast which you have caught already. The BOM's Weekly tropical weather outlook might be would be good to archive though since it gives us major hints in regards to development eg Jal and Anggrekk developed formed from tropical waves.Jason Rees (talk) 13:32, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The 2010–11 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season needs a seasonal summary map. It has three storms now. Could you make one? --Anirudh Emani (talk) 04:56, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Thanks for keeping an eye on the sorting within the SHEM seasonal articles, its appreciated. Just as an FYI TCWC Brisbane revised the winds and pressure in their preliminary TCR on Yasi. The 10-min winds should now equal 110 knots & the pressure is now estimated at 929hPa.Jason Rees (talk) 17:40, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FYI TCWC Jakartas changed their website address to http://meteo.bmkg.go.id/siklon.Jason Rees (talk) 18:47, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
