Userboxes[edit]

Hi Kenelm. You asked me how to 'do' userboxes. Well, here we go. I'll try to make this as simple as possible, but it can be a bit confusing explaining it. Here's some basic code:

If you take that code and reproduce it, then it'll produce a very small box string, with one box identifying yourself as male, aligned to the right. (I presume that you want the box string aligned to the right as it is on my page - if not, then it gets a bit difficult.)

If you want to add other userboxes, then just view the Userbox template:

Pretty self-explanatory. The code you need to use for each box will usually be on the left of each page. Supposing you wanted to add a box identifying yourself as apolitical, then you would add to the above code the following:

I presume you can take it from here. Take note that every user box 'line' has to have a |- before it, and one after it. Nor should you delete the |) code just above Userboxbottom, as this will also muck up the code.

Disambiguation[edit]

{{helpme}} How can you set it up so the entry of a name in the search box takes you straight to a disambiguation page? At the moment both Jim Lee and John Travers take you to a specific entry which is no more significant than the others so being able to go straight to the d/a page would seem fairer. Maestro[edit]

Hi, the bits of info that I added the the reference links were just to give the reader a little bit more information about the links; one useful bit is the date on which it was accessed for use in the article.

There is no 'strict' way of showing links or reference data, but having just the URL can sometimes look ambiguous to the reader; there is actually a bot on Wikipedia that goes around generating titles for refs which are just URLs or have no title (and it sometimes makes some silly titles).

In the simplest form you could just give the URL a title <ref>[http://www.google.com Google]</ref>, but many users prefer to give more info, such as where the data comes from, when it was created, ect. You can put this as plain text in the the ref, but some users prefer to use a consistent style, such as the ones that citation templates (such as cite web for web sources) provide.
