November 2022[edit]

Hello, I'm Adakiko. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Floyd Green (Jamaican politician), but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 04:03, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Kenneisha Campbell. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Floyd Green (Jamaican politician), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Acroterion (talk) 04:17, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Being the communications director and deleting well-sourced content critical of Green is definitely a wp:COI. Please don't do that. Thank you Adakiko (talk) 04:20, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have complied with the guidelines and have linked the source from the University of the West Indies’ website. The University of the West Indies is not affiliated with Floyd Green or myself and is a reputable source and institution. My edits will continue to link articles and sources (newspaper, and other media).

Your message on my talk page here ...my name is Kenneisha Campbell, I am the Communications Specialist assigned to him. Your position with Green is in conflict with being wp:here to build an encyclopedia. That is, by definition, a conflict of interest. From wp:COI: Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships.
BTW: "history" and "political science" are not proper nouns and should use sentence case.
The source you gave does not mention honors nor dates for Green's degree. Only wp:verifiable content should be added. Adakiko (talk) 04:36, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You most definitely have a conflict of interest - you've declared it plainly, which we appreciate. However, that does not mean that you may ignore the rest of the guidelines for editors with a conflict of interest, which include not directly editing the topic where there is a COI, but instead using the article's talkpage to propose edits. Direct editing should only be done where there is plain defamation or grossly inaccurate content, and then only to deal solely with those issues. Simply replacing sourced content with other content, sourced or not, is not appropriate. Article subjects may not dictate content, either on their own or by proxy.
