Racial gap in the United States[edit]

You don't have to propose an article - just create it (which I will did here). The subject is most certainly notable and important enough for its own article. The only thing I'm wondering right now is whether it should specifically refer to "wage gap" or "income differences" since the two are not the same. One thing which is relevant here (I just looked at the draft version of the article which you briefly posted) is that it matters how you are measuring the gap (specifically between Whites and African Americans). Roughly speaking, the gap in absolute terms in median wages has remained roughly constant since the mid 1970's. In other words the difference wage(Whites,median)-wage(AfricanAmericans,median) has not changed much. But since both of these medians have gone up the RATIO wage(Whites,median)/wage(AfricanAmericans, median) has gone down. As an artificial example suppose that in 1975 white median wages were 2 and black median wages were 1. So the difference was 1 and the ratio was .5. By 2000, white median wages went up to 10 and black median wages went up to 9. So now the difference is still 1, but the ratio is .9. These are just made up numbers but that's basically what has happened. (The caveat here is that in the 90's probably even the difference narrowed, but then widened again in late 90's and early 00's). I see the point you are making. Do you find that it is unclear whether the absolute difference or ratio difference is being referred to in the article? I took a look back at the section concerning black Americans and in most sentences I found that it specifically notes whether it is referring to the ration of wages or the absolute difference. I think for the most part the text is careful in specifically stating to what it refers to. In the sentence "After the passage of the act, the wage gap for minority groups narrowed until the mid-1970s" though it should be noted that what was narrowing was the ratio. Another thing having looked at your draft - there's no regional dimension discussed in the text, which was/is very important. Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the White-Black wage gap narrowed but it was all due to gains in Black's wages in the North (in the South, if anything, the ratio got worse). AFTER the passage of the act, Black wages in the South took off up until 1975 or so. I don't remember the exact year (early 90's?) off the top of my head but at some point the median wage of Black workers in the South caught up to the median wage of Black workers in the North so that now it's actually higher. Overall what this means is that most of the gains to Black workers had a very regional dimension - the improvements happened all in the South. The median wage for Black workers in the North grew as well but not as fast as in the South and not as fast as that of the White workers in the North. Mmm, I'm having trouble finding some of this online. There's a bit in this paper [1] (also other useful information), but unfortunately that version does not have the figures included (looking at the text it sounds like we'd want to see Figure 6, see page 13). There's also this [2] (jstor) which is a shorter version of the other paper, but this one focuses on just the South rather making cross-regional comparisons.

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest[edit]

I am interested to start GA review of Street Children of India. but, before that I want to learn are you regular in Wikipedia these days? Since there are not too many editors in that article, so, if you are unavailable too, it'll be very difficult to continue the review if you are busy too (specially after reading the article twice, I feel, some changes are to be made in the article, which needs a discussion in review page).
