Flynn Remedios

Hi, I am trying to edit -- yet again -- Flynn Remedios's dishonest Wikipedia page, only to find that it keeps getting termed as vandalism. I keep adding links from Indian newspapers to prove that he has constantly been engaged in criminal behaviour. Could you please let me know how the page can be kept truthful, without having my edits taken down?

Thanks, Joe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.242.117.30 (talk) 10:45, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I really want to be protected indefinitely, I have some valuable photos of Iran in my pages which I dont want to lose them! Thanks alot. Pournick (talk) 16:33, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Ban history

Re: Wikipedia talk:Banning policy#Ban history, my original question was made before Caspian Blue decided to ANI me. I would appreciate it if you amended your response accordingly and, in a perfect world, perhaps even answered my question? Jpatokal (talk) 09:18, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Bump? Jpatokal (talk) 11:08, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I tried responding yesterday, but Wikipedia wasn't processing my edit. Not sure what happened there. To answer you: No, I don't particularly care to change my statement on that talk page. I added a note in parenthesis to make it clear that it was just a reminder. I saw that you and Caspian had both edited that page, and I wanted to state that you guys should keep your discussion over there. As far as the answer to your question, I thought that the editing restrictions link was what you were looking for. If not, there's a hatnote on that page that might lead you to what page you're looking into. If you're suggesting we create a page for each editor to have a "rap sheet", that's been proposed and rejected on Village Pumps a few times. Killiondude (talk) 17:18, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah, sorry, didn't realize what the first link you posted was. Thanks! Jpatokal (talk) 01:53, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your revert!

Yes I was in the process of writing it. Redirecting to a term that means something different is not good. It should have been left as a red link. Would you switch it back now? Thanks.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:43, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

You seem to have done so now. In the future, please do not redirect to nonexistant pages even if you're in the process of creating them. Bots and other users may flag them for deletion. Killiondude (talk) 21:11, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Why are we getting quick deleted, when other articles are essentially the same as ours?

Hi,

I am really curious about your reasoning behind the recent deletion of the Beyondmedia Education entry. We have been in the process of trying to get a wikipedia page on here for almost a month now, only to be confronted by quick deletions from editors with little to no help or advisement as to how to improve our article.

I would like to point out a couple of other very similar wikipedia entries that are also advertisement in nature, that bear little to no difference to what we are attempting to submit.

[Crossroads Fund[1]] [Ms. Foundation for Women[2]]

How is our most recent submission a violation of this "advertising" rule. We are a registered 501c3 non-profit and have been established for 10 years. Can you please give more specific advisement, after considering the above links?

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daveyball (talkcontribs) 22:31, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Can you show that it's a populated place located outside of municipal limits? Some CDPs are really not the type of community that would go on these templates if they weren't CDPs, and it turns out that a large number of recently-derecognised CDPs have been annexed by municipalities. There are sources if you look for them. Remember the correct German spelling of name. Search for http://books.google.com/books?lr=&cd=7&q=%22Christian+H%C3%A4rle%22+W%C3%BCrttemberg&sa=N&start=10, for instance, many sources, over a span of year, indicating that this person was influential. We have to wait until an interested German-speaking editor comes by. Power.corrupts (talk) 01:14, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the German spelling. And yes, I was very surprised when I didn't find any search results (minus mirrors and insignificant hits) when I was looking for sources. Thanks again. Killiondude (talk) 07:12, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Mike Scully image

Hi,

Where exactly did this image come from? It appears to be a crop of this one [3]. So, despite the author being listed as Scully himself I don't see how that's possible. Did the actual copyright holder donate it? If he did actually donate it himself that to be honest its pretty poor, that was taken in 2007, why not give us a recent one? And why the rounded corners? To be honest, I prefer the other one. Gran2 11:33, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Mr. Scully contacted OTRS claiming the copyright belonged to his family. I will double check with him given the link you presented. He also asked us to use that image on his article. While we are not technically bound to his request, I always believe it is best to try and accommodate subjects of BLP articles in the little things like pictures. Unless the copyright does not belong to him, I don't see a major issue with leaving the current headshot up. Killiondude (talk) 02:47, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for clearing that up, I guess we'll wait and see what he says. I don't really have much of a problem with the image (except the rounded corners) I just recognised it as one I’d seen on Google. But I just don't get why, if he really wanted a different image, he didn’t just take one of himself a few days ago and send that to us. I mean, that’s what Bill Oakley did for us. But anyway, if that really is Mike Scully, then perhaps could you ask him if he has any other images he'd be willing to get and donate? We especially need frees of Phil Hartman, Julie Kavner and other writers, directors and crew members (see all those in the needed sections of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Simpsons/Free-use images. Good luck and thanks very much! Gran2 17:34, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Due to lack of response from Mr. Scully, and after conferring with another OTRS volunteer, I have decided that it is dubious whether the copyright belongs to Mr. Scully. As such, I've deleted the image from Commons and reverted to the other image on the article. If Mr. Scully can prove he owns it (I've asked for a photo with metadata) we can go from there. Happy St.Patrick's Day!

why deleted pictures, why query links

Hello Killiondude

I have been out-of-action for a few months and was most disturbed to find, yesterday, that several pictures in a Wiki - Peter Evans Restaurateur - had been deleted and there was a message to not enough links!

Neither position do I accept, and would like an explanation, please. As to the pictures, at the time they were being added I was asked for and sent Wikipedia the various 'copyright'/permissions to use, via email.

As to the links: I have read many Wiki entries with far fewer links that this entry.

I can't help suggesting that the removal of pics/request for more links has something to do with Wiki's request for 'donations' - as yet I had not got around to sending any money, having been distracted by illness in the family and other work duties.

Can you please reinstate the images - or have they disappeared from Commons? Georgie sydney 13:46, 20 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgie sydney (talkcontribs)

Hello! I'm sorry if you are upset by this. The files were deleted due to lack of permission from the copyright holder, nothing to do with donating money to the Wikimedia foundation. Essentially this was because they were uploaded by the username Gilberta (talk · contribs) and they wrote the author was Georgie Sydney (apparently you), David Hicks, and Peter Evans (1, 2, and 3). I just checked the OTRS system and a quick search for any tickets related to these deleted images wasn't found. I think you might wish to read Commons:Commons:Permission and Commons:COM:OTRS. Essentially, we need to get permission from the copyright holders of these works to see if they give permission to give them free licenses. One of the files did say that you were the copyright holder, so feel free to upload that one again (I think it's best if the author actually uploads their own works, and last time it was user:Giblerta on Commons). Killiondude (talk) 18:11, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

thanks for info; it was very confusing using Commons but as I had the images I did the uploading and obviously got confused; the facts are these: image of Peter Evans - copyright holder is Gilberta aka Georgie sydney; the fork image was designed by David Hicks for Peter Evans; Mr Hicks is dead; so I believe the copyright belongs to Peter Evans who has given permission; Mr Evans is also the copyright holder of the image of Mr Eldridge. SO I shall try to upload and correctly id all the info!

Also, I am busy linking several other Wiki articles to the Peter Evans (restaurateur) wiki; the suggestions that appeared - other Peter Evans - are ridiculous; you can't mistake a restaurateur for a musician (it's the googling search engines, I guess, they pick up individual words, eg Peter, Evans, e as oppose to picking up the whole reference as one unit! will get it right soon. Georgie sydney 14:27, 23 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgie sydney (talkcontribs)

new commons account

As the original images I uploaded have disappeared, please confirm I now have to get a new Commons account? And do I upload to gallery or upload single images? can I refer to the User Talk comments from Killiondude/Turelio of 17 Nov 2009 - I have now clarified the aliases - very confusing Wiki and then Commons requesting info; thought it best to use different alias/passwords etc. sorry for confusion. Can I take that as File:Peter3.jpg has been renamed File:Robin Eldridge 1954.jpg that this is still available to add back into Wiki article Peter Evans (restaurateur)? thanks Georgie sydney 17:43, 22 April 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgie sydney (talkcontribs)

No, they are not the same photographs. Commons:File:Robin Eldridge 1954.jpg is the one you want, I think. But you have to prove you are the copyright holder (if that's the truth) by emailing our OTRS volunteers. I see that Turelio has left some useful advice on your talk page on Commons (Commons:User talk:Gilberta). Once an OTRS volunteer handles your situation and everything checks out, then the file can be undeleted and you may place it on the person's Wikipedia article. You do not need to reupload or get a new Commons account to do any of this. Killiondude (talk) 18:02, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey man

Hey man, you deleted my edit about calling Antioch CA, a suburb of Sacramento. Antioch is indeed a Suburb of Sacramento. It is also a suburb of Oakland and San Francisco. I live in Antioch and I know plenty of people who work and go to school in Sacramento. Sacramento, Oakland, and San Francisco are all relatively the same distance from Antioch. Sacramento is a metropolis just like Oakland and Sacramento. What is your reason for deleting the contribution? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddiejamesv (talkcontribs) 02:49, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

I removed it mostly because it seemed to be original research and there was no reliable, third party that backed that up. Aside from the wikijargon, a suburb is usually a place that is pretty much physically connected with another, usually larger, city. Killiondude (talk) 06:07, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Trying to stay out of the rhetoric, but so far we have her hosting the Emmy-winning children’s newsmagazine “News for Kids, an Emmy nomination in 2007[6] and another in 2009[7]. Am looking for more, and rather than argue about it at the AFD, I choose to actually source the article. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:22, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Sourcing the article with references that have the subject's name in it as a one-liner type thing doesn't leave a great taste in my mouth. Killiondude (talk) 18:48, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Understood. But the WP:V of the nominations need not themselves be significant coverage. Meeting the GNG is always terrific, sure... but even as guideline shares that GNG allows a reasonable presumption, it does not demand such in all cases. For instance, over at WP:ATH simply competing on some professional team is enough for notability without significant coverage... and over at WP:PROF, there is acknowledgement that someone can be notable without significant coverage. So, and as much as GNG is preferred, I read WP:ANYBIO to be yet another guideline encouraged means for determining notability when significant coverage might be lacking, as not every notable subject receives wide news coverage. I think there's enough W:PV in WP:RS, even if not in-depth, to show that Martirez squeeks in. I am quite sorry that heads were being bumped together over at the AFD. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:39, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

User:Marioandluigifan, an editor you blocked indefintely, continued creating his imaginary airline routes and destinations in his own talk page. That wasn't really anything until today, when he added something "threatening". Is it time to block him from editing his own talk page too? HkCaGu (talk) 18:05, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

ITN

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for updating ITN. While I'm here, I recently wrote the admin instructions for ITN, so you get to be my guinea pig as the first new-to-ITN admin to update the template. I'm wondering if you saw it, if you used and, if you did, if you found it useful. Thanks again for updating it, though and i hope to see you around ITN soon! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:30, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

I actually did read it and found it very helpful. One thing I wasn't quite sure about was if a new item is added, if the oldest one must be removed. Checking back on the ITN section right now, it appears that's true. Maybe I just missed it in the instructions. Killiondude (talk) 20:39, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
The oldest comes off for balance if it's required. The technical answer is "it depends on the length of TFA", the simple answer is "don't worry"- there are a few MP admins who add and trim when required for balance so if you're not sure, it will be fixed by someone who knows exactly what they're doing. I'll try and clarify that in the instructions though. I'm glad you found it helpful and thanks for the feedback! Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:58, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Cristián Berríos

Have been disqualified as letralia.com neutral sources (Venezuela), Revista Espiral (Mexico), Los poetas del cinco (Revista Latinoamericana). Clearly this is a personal persecution against the author, who is a living person. These three sources prove their salience in the context of independent literature. The user requests deletion has also called for photographs that proved the legitimacy of the article, has ignored multiple users with different IP editing them the item. It has done much harm in this regard.

The reason for this damage may have a simple explanation, the user lives in Pichilemu Diego Grez. Berrios Christian writer wrote a story about Pichilemu (In search of happy Kuro) highlighted by a local newspaper, "Pichilemu News. Do not be envious?

http://pichilemunews.blogcindario.com/2006/02/00531-pichilemu-inspiro-a-escritor-virtual-conozca-su-novela.html

In order not to disqualify this litmus test, add more evidence that the periodical is:

Random009

Blogs aren't reliable. Right now there aren't many reliable sources, if any, used in the article therefore I think the subject may not be notable. Killiondude (talk) 16:35, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

SRX

My article on the LISA OSCAR SRX standard (written on behalf of LISA OSCAR) was deleted). The reason given was G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://xml.coverpages.org/newsletter/news2007-04-17.html. Can you please provide details as to what copyright infringement was made. Robin Cover's Cover Pages is a news feed regarding XML based standards. My article was not, as far as I remember, a copy of Robin Cover's article, which was itself just a news summary.

Thank you in advance,

Dear Killion- Having a question regarding posting a reference. would like to reach you for learning how to do it right.

Hi there. I think the easiest page for new users to read about how references work is one that Chzz made, located at User:Chzz/help/ref. You can talk about it somewhere other than Wikipedia. Killiondude (talk) 19:32, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

This needs updating, I've done about 900 entries! , Capping each run of the query to 1000 seems reasonable.

BTW It seems to be picking up a number of images that have perfectly valid rationales, just non-standard ones.

Please help as I am not provided a reason why my page keeps getting deleted, and when I try to just bring the page live automatically, I receive no message at all. How is one to interpret the filenames? For example "pagecounts-20100609-000000.gz", I assume, would be all hits that occured between 00:00:00 and 00:59:59 on 6/9/2010, and the locale would be UTC. One problem; this file is currently available (at a seemingly full 55MB), and it is only 00:53:00 UTC. So is it actually all edits that occured BEFORE the filename, but AFTER the previous filename? (or something along those lines, (i.e., "the hour that ended at..."?)). Thanks, West.andrew.g (talk) 00:55, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

I believe your last guess is correct. That is, the filename is the hour at which the data is published. So data from 0:00-0:59 would be located at 1:00 and so on. I wrote a handy little FAQ for the stats page, if I see this question pop up more often then I'll put it in there. Killiondude (talk) 05:30, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Prohibited PARENTcats

[Praise for another User moved here]: Good job on fixing the categorization of articles. There are a lot of pages that have way too many categories (grandparent categories and so on). Thanks for helping out. Killiondude (talk) 19:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Please note the fix (removal of WP:MOS-prohibited PARENT categories) which you had praised was reverted at Big and Little Petroglyph Canyons and several other wikiarticles. 97.121.137.7 (talk) 23:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Although User:Killiondude got a "thanks" and "oops" at 06:27, 21 June 2010 (similar to the earlier "Sorry" on 18:59, 21 May 2010), the repeated edits of the same nature continue, e.g., by:

  • placing Category:Flora of the California desert regions on wikipages that already have its parent Category:North American desert flora and not removing the parent.
  • placing Category:Redwood National and State Parks on wikipages which already have (or which the user added at the same time) the parent Category:National Parks of California.
  • placing Category:Valleys of the Mojave Desert' on Category:Death Valley that has the parent Category:Regions of California but not deleting the latter.

21 June 2009 Amargosa Desert & Category:Amargosa Desert editing provides another example--and for an extreme duplication of category hyperlinks, the user has added to a page with the standard category link(s) at the bottom of the page an *additional* link to category(ies) in the body of the article, e.g., here & here! Also, despite the dubious "was waiting until" excuse bandied last time -- it is not a surprise that editor never made it back to fix the period of double categorizing edits noted by User:Killiondude, e.g.,

15:28, 20 June 2010 Category:Arboreta in California
Added: [Category:Botanical gardens in California] but it already had
Category:Protected Areas in California
15:32, 20 June 2010 Category:Nature reserves in California
Added: [Category:Parks in California] but it already had
Category:Protected Areas in California
15:30, 20 June 2010 Category:Botanical gardens in California
Added: [Category:Parks in California] but it already had
Category:Gardens in California &
Category:Natural History in California
15:33, 20 June 2010 Category:Protected areas of California
Added: [Category:Parks in California] but it already had
Category:Geography of California &
Category:Visitor attractions in California

As a result, the user caused the following to become double-categorized instead of being "only into the most specific one in any branch":

Category:Botanical gardens in California double categorized by having Category:Parks in California
Category:Nature reserves in California double categorized by having Category:Protected Areas in California
Category:Arboreta in California double categorized by having Category:Protected Areas in California
Category:Protected areas in California double categorized by having Category:Parks in California

No doubt this will continue, but thank you for your consideration nonetheless. 97.121.137.7 (talk) 23:07, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Feedback

Re. WP:FEED, new system

I think you've probably seen my comments on the talk page, about how we need to restructure the feedback system so that we have one page for each day, we transclude the most recent days on the main page, set up navigation, move the current requests across, add a box at the top showing the 'oldest outstanding requests', etc etc.

This really is desperately needed; the volume of requests now makes for a VERY long page, and archiving is not the best method at all; it can confuse new users, when their feedback 'disappears', etc. With a page-per-day, the links to their feedback would always remain - so we could alert them with a link on their talk page, and it won't matter if they check in 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or 1 year - their feedback will still be there.

I've had a 'demo' of it set up, and got a bit of help with the templates to auto-transclude the most recent days, etc - please look at User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback - please look also at a 'demo' day, User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback, and the nav page, User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/navigation.

The demo isn't quite perfect, but to be honest, if we wait until it is, nothing will happen. We need to boldly implement it.

To do that, first of all, we need to clear things.

So, can you please help me by moving any and all feedback into the archive, and tell the users with a note, something like this one.

The move-over to the new method will be much easier if we clear things down.

I'm going to ask others for help, and try to get help with the transclusions stuff too.

Sorry this is a bit of a long message; I think it's important to sort this out, ASAP - and I need help with it.

Thanks,  Chzz  ►  03:43, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Update - This has now happened; there is no need to archive anything, any more. Now there are separate pages for each day, we no longer need to move old requests into a separate archive.
The main WP:FEED page will automatically just show the past few days.
If you can, please check over everything, because I'm sure there are lots of mistakes that need sorting out. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:39, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Kern County x 2

Hi Killiondude, thanks for reminding me to remove general Kern County tags, was waiting until transferred articles to Kern - Parks to not "lose" any, and then attention went to some desert articles.... oops. Best---Look2See1 t a l k → 06:24, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Killiondude

I think that you recently added an image to the page on Dan Chater - if this is right, do you have the whole picture from which the image was taken? I am interested as my wife is Dan Chater's great grandaughter and we have been trying to find old family photos for some time with little success.

Thanks

Matt

Hey Matt. The picture was donated by James Adams (the person listed as the author) through the OTRS system. It's not standard to do this, but I can email him later to see if he'd like to get in contact with you. If you could provide an email address, that would be best. Killiondude (talk) 16:33, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Killiondude, it would be great if you could email James Adamds for me. My private email is matt at davis-online.net (remove the spaces and replace "at" with the usual "@"). Matt 195.172.15.40 (talk) 09:21, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
I emailed him just now, so the ball is in his court (so to speak). Killiondude (talk) 19:53, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
James Adams has contacted me now. Thank again Killiondude. Matt.
